I worked with his dad at the beer store...God Rest His Soul...Steve was tormented with death threats and absolute bullshit phone calls at all hours of the night.
I actually played youth all-star hockey with him. He was a a great guy.
He was actually cut from the Junior "C" team in his hometown and got picked up by the London Knights in the OHA.
I know this goof-up won't die but understand at least that he did suffer. Remember him as an All-Star player and human.
It was a rookie mistake. What gets me is after the Oilers were eliminated, people were saying Oilers well (most players) were into cocaine. Get real...a year later they won another cup and no one mention about cocaine.
I'm a Flames fan myself, but people still won't let sleeping dogs lie & leave poor Steve Smith alone about this miscue. He went on to win 3 Stanley Cups the following 4 seasons with Edmonton and at least he lived to tell, unlike Bill Buckner who had to leave Boston because of continuous harrassment from Red Sox fans and he never did get another shot at winning the World Series.
@XavierDuFermier sounds like he was hurt in a collision with Paul Coffey? Not sure if it was on this play or earlier in the game, but sounds like he had to leave b/c of injury....
Shout-out to my nigga 240p!

It's good to know Steve Smith got his cup afterwords. He got his redemption.

I think if it hadn't been for this, we would have had a Montreal-Edmonton series for the Stanley Cup.
