Basically just summed up the reasons why I was driven away from wanting to be an attorney. Hell, thats also why I was driven away from the business field as well.
Not that I would wish to advise you to go into law, but I think there are specializations for lawyers that are not the way you characterize them, particularly in government agencies and judgeships.
Though I agree with you, why should someone saying this actually offend you? You could just explain to them, as you did in this video, that defending a position and finding/defending the truth are two different things; being "offended" seems like an over-reaction...
@TruthofthePeople I'm not into philosophy one bit. I don't see the point to it really. Even philosophy professors such as Barbara Forrest admit that philosophy can't prove anything, and that's what I aim to do with science, prove things. It "asks unanswered questions" sure, but I really don't care. The only philosophy, if you can really call it that, I really hold to is that people should be treated equal.
@IntolerantAtheist1 Yet again, you show a fine example that Atheist =/= smarter person. If you could be any more off topic, you would be Michelle Bachmann.
Don't be a lawyer. That is a horrible job. The money is good but you have to lie all the time. I read that a recent study shows that about 50% of students that come out of law school can not even find jobs being lawyers due to there being so many lawyers already working and only so many people needed to fill lawyer jobs. Don't be a lawyer. Too many people try to be them and there are too many lawyers in the work place.
Additionally, it's a lawyer's job to use any technicalities and loopholes in the law to deliberately sway deflect any evidence that would otherwise reveal the truth of the case, or the other lawyers opportunity to present it. Courts have become far more about who has pricier a lawyer that's better at knowing and using the details of the law than they are about actually determining guilt/innocence.
Lawyers are paid to look at the evidence in an objective manner, and figure out how to make it work for them.
This is why you and I are very different-I'm quite satisfied knowing the truth for myself. I could be a lawyer because, while I care about the truth, and I want to know it, I don't feel a need to make it known to the rest of the world if it will make me money to do just the opposite.
@dRevan64 Not trying to be mean or start an argument, but in that case. You're fine putting a mass rapist back on the street for a little extra cash? You're fine not only showing that you don't care about justice or fairness, but also showing that you don't care about what happened to the victims?
Can you honestly, help a man you know is guilty, walk out of a court room, free to go back to doing what he did before?
@Microtardz No offense taken. Frankly, it depends on the crime committed. I tend to believe that everyone has a right to be represented, even if they clearly did the crime. It's an America way of looking at it, I know.
But again, it depends on the crime that they committed. If I don't think they're actually a danger to society, I'll defend them and try to get them off completely. I wouldn't take a case where I honestly thought the person was a danger.
@dRevan64 I can agree with the right to be represented, I just don't like the idea of lying for someone for a bit of cash, then again, oh well. To each his own.
I could represent a man for a case of murder, I just could never lie for him.
@dRevan64 I honestly don't care about money. A system of monetizing different goods without actually having anything to trade with. But it does work out better than a barter system in the end.
@Microtardz I guess I'll have to be more specific. I like money because in the world we live in it is the most efficient and safe method of acquiring goods.
@IntolerantAtheist1 Yet another fine example of how the title Atheist doesn't make someone smarter -.-
Let us strawman, make accusations, and perform ad-hominems more.
Let us chat long time about where the money goes and how people spend it when the government helps them.
You do realize, that the aid you're bitching about, is part of the Aid you probably get everyday. Ever owned a house? Guess what, Government's helping to keep your rates lower.
@PatriotTrueAmerican Normally, i'd destroy your entire statement with a lulzy argument, but you're such an obvious troll that it would be pathetic of me to even try, amazing what comments people will thumb up.
@PatriotTrueAmerican Sorry, but you're wrong. She would have her own entitlements that she would be handing out.
And free money? You fucktard. That "free money" is the money of the people, for the people. Every dollar that goes into the government is from the people and should be spent on what those who contribute to it want. In other words, those who pay taxes. Since Bachmann's side don't contribute taxes, they get no say.
She's retarded. Can't even tell she married a gay man.
The truth is that no one wants to feel stupid, or uncertain, or scared. The only thing that's worse than any of those is all of them at the same time and NOTHING does that like undermining and invalidating our beliefs.
Our subconscious minds are hardwired to go for efficient action in pursuit of survival and if that means playing ninja basketball and kicking people in the nuts to win, it'll do it. The scientific establishment invalidates solid ideas constantly.
There won't be any jobs! This is a global economy bro, if corporatons can't sell to the US cuz people can't afford to buy, then they'll sell somewhere else. Corporations don't need this country anymore, and you're an idiot if you still believe in the "american dream" of getting 'ahead' in life. For most of america, that's just not possible, and now you want to take away education too. Fuck you for supporting this countries demise.
@PatriotTrueAmerican Ya know more and more people are moving out of the US. Why? It's because OTHER COUNTRIES are treating their citizens with more respect and human dignity than republican america is.
"All hail the mighty US dollar!!" They cry. "Let the poor take care of themselves, and if they can do that, lets accuse them of not paying taxes so we can take whatever they have left too!"

@IntolerantAtheist1 Michele Bachmann is an American hero and a true Patriot. If you love Communism like B. Hussein Obama go move to Kenya. We don't want you in our country.
@IAmHotize "Michele Bachmann is an American hero " Huh? How so? What has she done to deserve the title of "hero"? Is it when she brilliantly declared that the founding fathers got rid of slavery? Or maybe it's when she said she was from the same town John Wayne was born in? Or was it wishing Elvis a happy birthday on the anniversary of the day he died?
@IAmHotize If you're interested in seeing the poor grow in number, our public education systems shut down in favor of privatized (expensive) schools, our gas prices rise, and corporate bank accounts grow then VOTE republican!! They want our rich to thrive and our poor to die, just like every other third world country.
By the way, isn't it funny how our "conservatives" have been borrowing TRILLIONS from communists?? Looks like they're in bed together to me...
Correction: Lee Strobel was never a lawyer, but a journalist who has a law degree. However, having a law degree doesn't automatically make one a lawyer, let alone a practicing lawyer. Doesn't mean much in terms of your actual argument, but I just thought I point that out.
I don't think Lee Strobel actually believes that stuff as much as he knows what a cash cow Christians are. They will buy up any book that will help them keep their fragile faith.
if (when i get older) my kid ever told me he/she wanted to be president, or a lawyer, of something of that matter, i would be far more disappointed than if they were to say they want to work at a (poorly paid) job at a factory on a line, because, 1.) they would most likely be assassinated, 2.) they only say what their client/employer/boss wants them to say, & 3.) they would neglect everything else that once meant something to them, for their career. +americas government system will soon implode.
You are painting with quite the broad brush in this video. With the reputation lawyers do have in society, I'm sure you will get a lot of applause. I might even agree in some cases. But, this is an over generalization and I'd say that most people who happen to be lawyers are just as good as any other person out there and have just as much of a desire to get to the truth as anyone else. As shika said, ProfMTH is a lawyer and I'm sure you wouldn't have much bad to say about him
I'm doing my PhD in molecular microbiology. I'm enjoying the research, pursuing the unknown, having to follow evidence where it takes you, challenging your interpretation. But I'm hoping to do medicine so I can apply my research and sustain it whether grants are available or otherwise. Unfortunately, an element of society dislikes science because it denies their beliefs, or just wants to cut govt. funds to it. Which area of the sciences most interest you?
recently a friend of mine got a degree in enviornmental studies and when he came to me I told him if he ever got a job hei,d have to become some shill for some industry that wanted to say here,s my environmental authority just come up here and lie for me.
That's a really fair point about being a lawyer.
