i respect your support of Native women but i judge a performer on the performance not on who a person is or their ethnic background...i'm glad you're a native woman and proud of it but does that mean you can't have an honest opinion about a person..i'm sure she had done many fantastic performances...i saw her perform twice, one was great, the second one wasn't..does that make me a hater? i'm just being honest and not looking at everything with rose colored glasses
Awesome video, Tanya's awesome, minus the negative comments, always haters ....Tanya and Kinnie are beautiful native women...and just cause someone says something negative, dont make you sound any less better! these ladies are awesome, I'm a proud native woman, and we need to support other native woman in the good work they do. And they are artists, you can't tell someone's creativity is wrong
It's hard to understand Tanya through little clips like this. You need to see her live to appreciate the power and intensity she is capable of. She is amazing!
It's disappointing to read such rude and petty comments.
@evilagent honest heartfelt opinions are not rude and petty..i saw her live twice and the first time i enjoyed.....now she's a bit over the top...couldn't sit thru the second performance i saw a couple years after the first...if you like her , fine, go see her shows..some folks are rude just to be rude...they're called trolls...i gave an honest opinion...
@EndlessNot1 - I was referring to other commenters for the most part. I respect your opinion, although I do disagree. "Oblivious to the musicians around her" is a good way of describing the OPPOSITE of every live performance I've seen her deliver. Completely in tune with them is more like it. Nevertheless, your opinion is fine. It's the rude insults from some other commenters that I was referring to.
@evilagent the second time i saw her was at VICTO 2010 fest with Jean Martin and Jesse Zubot....she was over the top and oblivious to her fellow performers....maybe that was a one time thing but that's what i witnessed...just an honest opinion....the first time i saw her i enjoyed her more
@magdalenaglocka maybe she will find her way...i won't dwell on it though, there's too much other interesting stuff out there to concern myself about her.....she seems to be happy with her direction and there seems to be a loyal following so i don't see her changing direction anytime soon...
@magdalenaglocka i think she has people that try to collaborate with her, but she's oblivious to the musicians around her, maybe if she listens to what they're doing, but she seems to be too full of herself and she should ditch the fake whimpering...
@magdalenaglocka i don't know if a comparison to Sainkho is fair but if you're talking about the real deal then Sainkho fits the bill, no cutsey stage antics or fog machines, just intense passion
saw her performance in Victoriaville this past May....after about 10 minutes it got boring, nothing against throat singing but i got the point, i left for the next show.....i saw her perform a few years earlier, enjoyed it much more...she's so full of herself and over the top now..sorry...a little fame is going straight to her throat, i mean head
Kinnie Starr seems more interesting though not familiar with her
Exactly!! and if u people are taking the time to insult someone who is known across the world for being the true creative and beautiful person she is, u must not have anything better to do because the only friends u have is ur computer, and u can't take the fact that she's become something using her own throat insted of a man made instrament
>>inuktothebone, dude you're like obsessed with spamming every tanya tagaq video with the same thoughts. give it a rest already.
it's pretty clear she's not doing traditional inuit throat-singing. she's doing something different. it's called being creative. embrace a growing culture, folks, don't try to confine it.
she doesn't make it sound like it's a duet!! you should look into actual "inuit throatsinging" she is throatsinging-but not the way inuit women do it....i'm actually embarrassed and ashamed of her-if she took out the "INUIT" part then it would be cool...she acts like she's trying to get off!
actual, traditional throat singing is two people facing each other. tanya does both roles. Slightly different than the original, but amazing nonetheless.
Oh sorry, I didn't understand you. I thought you mean that she's the only one who can make duets like she does with Kinnie Star. Now I understand, that is amazing. She is very talented and has a great style.
it even shows in the video
