  • Sexy voice if ever there was one!

  • you just cant but to listen to this man him and slim whitman should have done a duet together

  • aS THE NEXT OF KIN TO THE WAYWARD WIND i Have to say That this song rocks!

  • this reminds me of the summer of 56, when my mother was on a trip to the States to visit my father , who was a chief-engineer. I was then 7 years old, I still adore the song .....

  • This song was played at my Grandad's funeral, so it means alot to me. He died from cancer about 10 years ago when I was about 16. I borrowed a CD and learned this song, which I sang infront of family members on my 21st birthday ( after several drinks of course!) I am now 26 and still know every word! This song will always remind me of him, and we miss him dearly. XXXXXX

  • @jsjihendo Thanks for commenting, glad I could post it for others to hear.

  • @01musicfan Actually this song was #1 in Uk in 62 or 63!

In fact, Frank had no less than four #1's in UK during 1962 and 1963.

He had 3 in a row, which I believe had not been previously achieved at the time!

  • @jsjihendo that`s beautiful to read..keep singing it darlin..it is a song that is close to my heart

  • the best

  • IMO, Similar to John Rowles later in the 60s insomuch both Top Class singers/entertainers who I dont think were appreciated as much as they should have been at the time.

Both performing as good as ever.

Songs that stand the test of time.

  • @dw69ful Thanks for comenting, I'm not familiar with John Rowles, I'll have to check him out.

  • @01musicfan John Rowles, from New Zealand, had some great songs: 'If I only Had Time', 'Cheryl Moana Marie', etc. ... but his styling and voice may have been seen as some kinf of take on Tom Jones' style at the time.

    Terrific male voice nevertheless :)

  • Great version of the Wayward Wind.

Frank excelled with it - at the time it was released in England, all we 'whipper-snappers' were enamoured with it!

    Thnaks.

  • @tgc6266 This version and the version by Gogi Grant are both excellent. You juts have to love Frank's delivery on this one.

  • Actually this version sounds better then the orignial.

  • @starfish50 Thanks for commenting, I actually like this and Gogi Grant's version equally.

  • the Coventry ex singing milkman well sung frank... don't forget your roots the coop dairy...lol.

  • @allenparsons31 Was he really a milkman before he become a singer? I never knew that! :/

  • Steve Mcqueen stars in a 60's movie in which this song is sung. Does anyboy know the title of the film?

  • excellent people in those days realy could sing with great backing music,

unlike all this modern rubbish where they use synthetic gizmo's and crap videos

  • @oddball2036 Thanks for commenting!

  • A favorite with him!

  • Wonderful rendition of this song. This is one of my favorite songs, but I had never heard it with yodeling before. He really made this song his own. Thanks for posting it.

  • Frank sang beautifully, i remember him when i was young in the 1950s and i was also listening to the 2 brothers called The Everly Brothers, these singers have more dedication in them than todays crappy music.

  • @schumachergirl1956 Harkens back to when you had to be able to sing or actually play an instrument or better yet, do both.

  • The best version me thinks!!!

  • @MrNaughtydog7 I think this is the best male version, for best overall version I would have to pick Gogi Grant.

  • I was very young in fact three when this came out, but i always remember playing these records on my mom & dads record player, when i was growing up and thinking boy this guy can sing.

  • @burns1961 Thanks for commenting.

  • He was my first pop "Idol" before the Beatles came along . Much underated, although he had at least 3 Number 1 hits in the UK, including this one I recall.

I must try a few of these songs at Karaoke, although I am not sure if I can hit those yodelling high notes as well as I did when I was a kid!

  • @newcrossboy Thanks for commenting on this one :-)

  • @newcrossboy Re Beatles: Well the joke is, because he'd already had 2 or 3 No 1's in UK, the he called on the Beatles for his support act before they were known!LOL!

  • Pumped out a lot of good songs in his day. I grew up with this voice and this song is one of my favourites.

  • @joynz1 He had a lot of great ones, I think my favorite is She Taught Me How To Yodel. Though this ranks right up there.

  • Yes; this is the best version I've heard, but then, almost anything Frank does seems to be the equal of any other version or betterLOL! ;)

  • @denidowi He does rock, never heard one by him I didn't like! Thanks for commenting

  • @01musicfan No that's true.

Personally, I'd almost place him, despite his relative lack of recognition, as one of the Very Top great voices and personalities of 20th Century pop music ... and also of country singing

  • @denidowi He did a lot of great songs and he has a great voice. Thanks for commenting.

  • good version .but frankie laine is better thanks for sharing

  • In Holland this number was a hit in March 1963....indeed his best number, but in Holland also not a big hit....alas

  • Thank you for the information from Holland. This is a very good record.

  • Best version, no one does it better.

  • Thanks for taking the time to comment :-)

  • I love this reminds me of when I was young. I had this record. Certains sounds are very evocotive.

  • Thanks for commenting.

    Geweldig !!!

  • Dank u voor het becommentariëren, hoop ik u van sommige van mijn andere het posten houdt

Thank you for commenting, I hope you like some of my other postings

  • Thanks for uploading this one! Frank Ifield is the only entertainer I've ever seen perform live! He was awesome and I'll never forget the experience. I was only about 15 when he performed at The Sound Shell, Tauranga, New Zealand. I still love his music. Do you have 'Just One More Chance'? I'd love to save that one to my favourites also.

  • Thanks for commenting, glad I could post it. Also, sorry but I don't have Just One More Chance.

  • But where did he learn to yodell?

  • This is a great version--but: Patsy Cline

    did a fantastic version also!

  • Yes, as did Gogi Grant. Thanks for commenting!

  • Great version of huge 50's hit covered by many. Reached no 1 in Feb 1963 for 3 weeks.

  • Truly a great that didn't get the recognition he deserved here in the U.S.

  • Thank you for posting this song. I remember playing it when I was a kid.

  • Frank was born in Coventry, England 1937. moved to Australia in 1948, returned to England in 1959. I think he now lives in Australia.

  • Thanks for the information. I love Frank he rocks

  • His Best!!

  • Glad to see I'm not the only one who likes it :-)

  • Here in the UK it got to No 1 in february 1963, making frank the first british artist to have 3 consecutive No1's

  • He's truly a great, thabks for the additional information.

  • He was Australian...not British!!

  • Sorry, born in Coventry, England. :-)

  • @allumst Hi there ,his parents were Australian and they raised Frank in Australia, he has lived there since he got married and i think he feels more at home in Australia than England.

  • An old favorite!

  • Glad you liked it
