  • Google CURES = Autism?

  • Looks fantastic, let you know how a novice handles it...; > ...a video response? Move over brain, cause this will be a trip!

  • I honestly have to say that autisic people are more artistic than the average artist. :)

  • I have to agree, Although it's simple, the aquarium dream-house is good for a kid with autusim who has started with Sketchup. As an autisitic person myself, I think it's a great idea to let kids make things from imagination.

  • yes... many kids do these days love Ketchup... It's just sad! :(

  • On a sweltering hot summer day like it is where I am right now, that water-walled house sounds like a very cool (litterally!) idea! ^_^

  • after we use scetchup the only thing missing are the sims

  • Hello,

my son has a handycap as well. He is so proud to show me his sketchup models. I am a civil engineer ... I have a consulting office .. I am shure to build a job for him in the future ...

  • i play sims that's kind of the same

  • @zippygrl no its not

  • @zippygrl hahahahahahahah.... No. It's just not. Sketchup= make stuff, sims= waste your life on stupid game. Hahah.

  • @zippygrl actualy not really ... sims is just putting something that is already made in the game...

In sketchup you can make the the things your self.

  • Sketchup is great...but this add is a loser :S

  • How do i round things up. Like tomake a foot ball or a hot tub. I always end up making a disk of a square hot tub. I cant find how to render stuff.

  • Huh...when I saw this video, I didn't expect to see Rachel W. She went to my high school.

...Not to mention that SketchUp was primarily founded in Boulder. I live near Boulder and she does too. Interesting.

  • issso es una buesta para la mi carita viertee!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!puebre persona qui estinte en murrar nieso

  • Does sketch up pro cost anything?

  • yes

  • I believe the Pro version costs somewhere between $400.00 and $600.00. I love sketchup and the free version is good too.

  • it's free!!! :S

  • How is this making fun of Autistic kids?

  • Def. downloading it for my brother :] ♥

  • ....you mean you are no longer susceptible to being brainwashed(question mark)

  • CANCER CURE = HEMP OIL

  • is it a free ware?

  • yep go to google and type in sketch up there should be a free software and theres the pro version

  • ROFLMAO lololololololololoo

  • Whoever thinks this makes fun of autistic people, it does not. It was made to help anyone, even if you're autistic, to express yourself. Under no reason would Google try to make fun of autistic kids.

  • you're right.

  • Hey if this helped i downloaded it its pretty difficult to use

  • What is wrong with you?

  • 2:55 I have a friend named Rachel W.!

  • ya were can u download that 3D program or should i buy it.

maybe i discover my secret talaent

  • What is this site called? plz write back :) i'de really appreciate it. thank-you very much

  • Aquarium Dream House - best phrase I've heard all week

  • I am autisic! and i use this but i am not that very good with it :(

  • It differs from where you are on the spectrum. People with Aspergers tend to have high IQs, and autistic savants can have eidetic (photographic) memory and amazing skills at painting. Hope I cleared that up :)

  • sketchup? sounds a lot like ketchup.

  • wow this is really cool stuff o-o i used Google sketchup for a bit but can't do anything like this :P

  • I'm autistic and I like to design things and stuff alike. I play Roller Coaster Tycoon 2 a lot because I get to design my own parks. I also like to express my feelings through literature because I find it hard to express them in everyday life. Just so you know. lol.

  • like adding teeth to this semi.

  • Say... If it turns out there is any truth to the recent hypothesis that a VITAMIN D DEFICIENCY can cause or worsen autism, wouldn't this product make it worse by giving children yet another reason to not get enough sunlight (which the body needs to make Vitamin D)

Maybe Google should get working on a laptop screen that is easy to read in direct sunlight, and give kids solar powered laptops.

  • I got a lot of sun light as a child, but got rather little of it as an adult. My behaviour and "internal workings" haven't changed because of it.

If anything, I am now more aware of myself and others than ever, but that comes with age.

I honestly don't think this hypothesis, that doesn't seem to be backed by studies (you didn't mention any, so I must assume there are none, because I don't have any way of determining what exact one you meant), has any truth to it.

Btw.: Sun light hurts my eyes.

  • HAahha he is using mac mac kicks hole

  • well, these kids may be happy by using sketchup, but does google have to exploit that for advertising?

  • true stories lol

  • i love this video

  • kids with autism should build houses for the sims!

  • im just wondering is aspergers a form of autism that is what i have

  • Does anyone have autism and think that this is close to correct. I have seen autistic people fight with other people, rainman that wasnt as far from really as this video appears.

  • Sorry for the tripple post, but YT messed up the comments. :^(

The short one was in response to

zaphraud, the other was meant for

    alixinthemiddle.

    Have a nice day. :^)

  • what a cool idea!

  • x_X i now have a fear that i have autism...

  • Why is that so?

Autism has a set of known symptoms and being gifted with a ritch spacial imagination doesn't imply autism.

    This is A -> B, but not B -> A, if you unerstand what I mean. ;^)

  • lol if you can think that through and you do well at school and jobs, you're probably okay. Lol that's what I thought too

  • ;-; but... i didn't do well in school or any jobs. *fail*

  • That's not a symptom of autism per se either.

Please consult a psychiatrist experienced with autism, if you have serious reason to believe that you might really be "close enough to autism on the spectrum".

  • What people with aspergers needed was parents that paid more attention to them in the first place, instead of abandoning them in cribs with a bottle-propper and sitting them in front of a TV, while they went off about their own business chasing dual incomes to support their real estate investments and multiple SUVs

Trying to use software to solve the problem is actually just going to make it WORSE. Children need face to face people time, not emotionless machinery, to grow.

  • Do you have any first hand experience with autism?

  • If you read about the most effective "autism therapies" - the ones that work - they basically boil down to lots and lots of involved interaction with the child.

There are many people who will characterize this as just plain "good parenting" instead of something you'd only want to give a child with clinically diagnosable problems.

  • Your anwser seems to imply a "no" for an answer to my question, but I am not certain.

And you have a point here: all children need "good parenting" (a vague and relative term). Unfortunately, there seem to be more children that need it, than parents that can give it. :^(

  • i agree but remember not all situations are like that

but yes i agree that aiming it specifically at children with social disorders is not the best idea

  • As written above, I agree partially. But then, all the "good parenting" won't make autistics non-autistic. Also, there's no need for that. The solution is way "simpler" and pain-less:

Acceptance and caring for each other.

  • Thats definitely a start, yeah - but I'd still wager that if an autistic person gets anything beneficial out of a software package like this, its not the use of the actual software, but rather the positive recognition / reinforcement generated by the mostly positive reactions of other people interacting with the autistic person.

Outside of a reinforcing environment, long-term use of software can create social distance instead of social interaction.

  • zaphraud, you have no idea what you're talking about. People with Asperger's need to learn to recognize social cues most people take for granted, and even then don't always get it right. Involved parents and speech & occupational therapy since pre-K didn't make middle or high school any easier.

  • Well, that's an interesting thought. I'll tell you this much, there's no way in hell this software is going to help a human being learn how to recognize social cues / body language, and by creating a diversion that could potentially use several hours of time a day, its just another reason for a child to NOT be involved directly with other children or adults.

  • Yet it may help one develop their talents and become an "independent" person with a "normal" job, not a "special" challenged people work <- many autistics can do more than that.

That's the main point they try to bring along, I guess: "Your kids might be able to do fantastic things, so why not try to make it into a profession, giving them a chance and a future?"

That I think, is a noble goal.

On the other hand, I don't think it's meant to be a substitute for any love / help / therapy.

  • Oh, and one other thought:

Shouldn't autistic children (this isn't true only for autistics, but I try to stay on topic here) be given instrument to learn and play, just because it creates a distraction (everybody knows autistics can get very involved with whatever interests them) and prevents them from learning social skills that some of them aren't interested in anyway?

Why not try to become a good musician, a professional?

    What about other art forms?

For me, all of it is exactly the same.

  • Quick, somebody buy some autistic kid a korg!

  • Let's express this in another way, which btw. is true for any child: Take any existing talent and / or special interest (and wait for the child to be "old enough", don't overdo it!) and support it the best (which is not equal to "the most") you can as a parent. Get involved with our children.

That's all I want to say.

Thanks for reading and have an nice day!

  • Very good put.

    I'm lost for words.

  • also, also it's more probable for them to get a stable, well earning job using graphic design than if they would do more of the "classic" arts.

  • yes, this is a very useful comment indeed. if people with autism start showing interest in whatever thing, it's easy for them to specialise in that thing. but combining this with other "features" of autism like being able to remember visual things easily, this could work ideally for them.

one of my friends has autism and he used to play keyboard, about four years ago his interst changed to computers. it's all their choice really.

  • GRACIAS

  • internet to come and have a little food fight dodge ball and a couple of bumper car to surf on.whats our Dreamy tech earth inspire is all in our hands and mind to discover.

does anyone have any idea of to create such a free open program?anyone interested?

  • Tech Earth personal realm of each owner to jack up for does who might be leading for hacking whats the point of you ruining someones real life?

Using google earth as a startoff base and then having full control of your tech world.i would sproud metal pots on streets with tomatos in them and invite people over the

  • The spectrum is very broad. Bill Gates has Asperger's Syndrome (high-functioning autism) as do I. (not that proud though, I'd rather have Larry Page be Asperger but hey)

You'd be surprised how many people have been diagnosed with some form of autism in the western world. It's a really high percentage, and those are just the ones that got diagnosed, like me.

  • I don't think Autism is like a toggle key. Do you? What makes you believe in the diagnosis and why would you announce it here so freely?

  • N00bz

  • some forms of autistics are known as savants. look up autistic savants on youtube and youll understand the special abilities that they have

  • Awesome!

  • google should create technology to limit stupid comments

  • They are powerless against stupid of that magnitude, I'm afraid.

  • ...kids with autism are gifted and cursed with it. A friend of mine has a high functioning version of autism that makes him very smart, but only in book skills and creativity, not socially. He is constantly made fun of at school. See what I mean?

  • just be his friend and make sure he gets out of school ok. He'll do ok once he's free of that nonsense.

  • where can I download the SW ?

I did download Google Sketch up.

But in this video, you can se allot of tools (on the left menu) but that is not in google sketch up..

what software is used on this video ??

  • Kids are much more adaptable then adults. My boy, who doesn't have autism, uses Sketchup quite efficiently.

Just give them a chance. That's all they need.

  • "Drawing my room was painful!" All I see is a box. I didn't know kids had it that bad!

  • Its nice to see a 3D modeling program that's easy to use.

  • good

  • mhmm i bet no one noticed that in googles user agreement you agree to being 18 or over to use this software, yet i am doubtful that the kids featured in this video are actually so. ha.

  • Haha, good job pointing that out.

  • amazing

  • Yeah, for people who can't use it.

  • i would be a little nicer concidering they worked hard to come up with these so get a life or be more conciderate.

  • It's a very nice project and I love everything google does. I was just replying to a comment about linux, youtube comment system is crap.

  • I don't see any kind of prejudice here. Please re-watch the video carefully and take a little time to reconsider some values. Your comment sounds like a complex. Pretty understandable, but we don't really want to discredit a project which seems to be very helpful to the autistic, do we?

  • they're not making fun of autistic people..instead they're helping them and others by unleashing their artistic side.

  • Thats pretty inspiring and cool.

  • This is hard

  • wow that stuff looks like an autistic kid made it.

    (i couldnt resist.)

  • read the video description.

  • "water held up by forcefields"

    (i couldnt resist.)

  • no linux version means I dont care

  • They should get Sims 3!!!

  • Hahah! I know, eh! I can't wait until it comes out, it looks awesome.

  • i am soo getting that game wonder if the newbie family is still around

  • why even at google, does their sound quality suck lol

  • and they own youtube!

  • awesome, we used it in high school, that was really cool program, easy to use, really nice.

  • to kolospito

  • The word "autism" caught my eye under the google search browser. Thanks Google for doing something for my kid!

  • LOL FORCE FIELDS!!! xD

  • LOL.. when i herd that, i had to see what people said about it.

  • i know wtf LOL!

  • kuv00-thank you! zaphraud-the intelligence of an autistic child towers over yours. may God bless you with a child with a disability...

  • I was 10 years old when I first used it. I was not a autism kid and I'm not! And I think that house is very ulgly for beigng that young...

  • zaphraud, BrandonMiller9999,

    theguy1322.. grow up please.

  • You spelled Barack wrong.

  • You still haven't caught on to the internet's style of spelling and grammar...

    Which I defy....

  • haha, that's so cool, Teeth on the truck!

  • Typical isn't it.

  • love google

  • Good job google.

    Gotta love this guy...

    VVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVV

  • lolololol

  • Thank you so much for this video! I have autism and I've been drawing since middle school and I've been wanting to make a 3D video game (I prefure 2D video game because I do make pixels/sprites). I've been modding my characters on Sims 2 (sometimes) but I have a technology teacher (I don't have her yet) shows me a program a lot similar to this. I think it's called Alice that you can make an animation in 3D. I've been wanting to make cartoons/video games/comics, but this is actually amazing! =D

  • Great video presentation Google! Thank you for sharing this. Although my one 5 year old twin son dx'd with Autism at age 4 years old is not ready for Google Sketchup yet, I do believe one day (and soon) he would be totally into this program. He does enjoy being on the computer and has an eye for things the average "Joe" may not see. As a mother of a child with ASD, I can definitely see how Google Sketchup is a hit with those on the spectrum.

  • i have that program but i dont know how to put the building on Google Earth

  • aquarium house using force fields... GENIUS! (ironically lol)

  • I feel bad for these people, not able to live normally.

I think Google is amazing for creating this program, and the people creating these buildings in this program can do way better than me.

    I can't even make a shed.

    Ahahh.

  • Grow up.

  • Get a life OR4l, you troll.

  • thumbs up

  • I have autism, and wow, this looks pretty fun.

  • Love sketchup.

  • Thats not funny.

  • yes it is

  • Did you seriously just say that your own joke was funny?

I think that you're the autistic one here.

  • higher functioning autistics would love this, but many normal people also love it since it makes it easier. It's easier to use this than try to draw a 3d model on paper. Or even a 2d one. This you can play with for hours.

  • you should look at wings3D, it has a Little more of a learning curve than this, but nothing like blender or any other complicated rendering engine.

  • 3d modeling engine, not rendering

  • Excellent work Google

  • awesome

  • This is cool. As a graphics artist myself, I think it's neat that these kids with mental disadvantages can create 3D models. I know SketchUp is a pretty user-friendly program, but when you've met several autistic kids before who struggle so much it really seems like an amazing feat that these kids are pulling off. (I know there are different levels of autism as well, so sorry to anyone if it seems like I think they're dumb)

  • This is how hammer for cs maps should look like.

  • you sir, are brilliant.

    that'd be freaking awesome

  • DAMN!!!! I have imagined my dream house and is just like Megan's.

    Good job girl.

  • What Google Staff? Scared of me, Yea need to block me as well. When are you people going to start to speak, like human beings?

  • awsome everybody should try this real so cool.thanks google keep doing better :)

  • you don't have to be autistic to be able to make 3d enviroments, or to do it easier than drawing, im not autistic and id much rather make a 3d enviroment than try to draw it

  • I agree fully. Most people are intimidated when they see a design program, but they aren't that hard to use, and the graphical visual makes it easy to visualize, because you don't have to. It's actually harder to draw a 2d floor plan for some people then use a program to create a 3d one. If they had to draw a 3d house on paper, that would be even more difficult for them. But the program is great because it helps ALL people to more quickly see what is happening in 3d... well projected 3d.

  • @GOOG

  • This is great. My oldest son (age 17) is a high functioning Autistic. He loves to draw, but struggles with detail, and often erases so much he puts holes in his paper. I will have him check this out. Great!

  • Google Ketchup?

  • So much hate

why do you feel this why?

you don't know what its like to be both autistic and disabled

why do you hate the autistic and disabled so much?

    what have we done?

  • People sometimes say things they don't really mean. Especially young people can say stupid things things just to elicit an emotional response from an adult.

In other words, either don't use the Internet, or accept that some people on the Internet are asshats :)

  • Or just don't take the internet seriously :D

  • in other words, you sound a bit gay man.
