@TheNYgolfer True, Id say he's a pure swinger. But what surprises me is that he has lost so much distance so quickly (relatively). If he used hitting and muscle power, Id expect it. But as a swinger you'd expect him to be more Fred Couples like, and keep distance. But Monty is way way down on distance now. I know he's out of shape, but still!
@cockywatchman1976 Fred Couples isn't fat and he's naturally flexible. Monty still has a great swing but being so out of shape and getting older isn't helping his cause. If he got himself in shape and he could go out on the senior tour and clean up. Vijay can still hit it 300+ hards cause he works on staying flexible.
Similar to Mike Austin's method... looks like he's doing the Dan Shauger takeaway keeping the face square to the target on takeaway. Can't tell if he's doing the reverse wrist turn.
he does the same thing i'm trying to get rid of as far as posture is concerned, but he actually goes with it and just wails at it. in my mind, his follow through looks all crazy and high because he is almost standing with an erect spine (he's hunched and squatting) when he swings through. his follow through is parallel to that very steep downswing plane. maybe i'm wrong? talking about planes and crap isn't my thing, i just feel the follow through position is a byproduct of the downswing plane
I hate the way people pick on monty sometimes.....sure he blew the 06 open, but you don't win 8 straight euro tour money titles without a great swing and PLENTY of tournament golf chops.
@CarolinasPGApro i wouldnt mind the guys talent or money. he was certainly good enough to win a major but i always felt the problems were in his head that stopped him from winning one. whether it was the pressure i dont know
What I love so much about this swing is it looks effortless and repeatable... My golf coach is trying to get me to swing like Paul Casey.. Its a very Athletic swing. I think a Furyk or Monty or even Quiros swing is more suited personally to my personality. Kind of funky but repeatable. You have to do whats comfortable. My swing was working and and now its all over the place with swing thoughts. The collection of video instruction from Monty is very uselful in just approaching the game simply.
