  • Thanks a lot! Very useful!

  • the replacement boards -even the cheapest of these- I've noticed have the Fasel in them. I got mine out of a pawn shop dumpster where they had trashed the circuit board- but the housing/pedal is -of course- bulletproof- so I've got to find a board or build one- thanks for providing some explanation, appreciate ya

  • Nice video, thanks for sharing. Just one criticism. Pliers to remove the jack bolts ಠ_ಠ

  • wt f i open my brand new gcb 95 and its true bypass with a red fasel inductor!

  • @RUNnGUNify i had same thing!! opened brand new pedal up and has red fasel in it!! no true bypass though but still i wonder why it has the red fasel? i am happy with it. and i am not kinning my bro has same pedal and his has the stock one so did i luck out or am i missing something? plus u had the true bypass!! wow even better than i got. sweet!!

  • thanks for posting this video it helped so much and now my wah sounds so much better

  • I did a similar thing, but with my laptop. Didn't really know what I was doing or what I was looking for. I managed to put it back together. Doesn't work as well now. I'm thinking of getting myself a fasel wah. Clyde wah's are meant to be great. But I might go with a Dunlop Crybaby Classic Fasel wah. They're going quite cheap on eBay.

  • Thanks alot for the vid, but what do you think about the yellow fasel? Have you tried that one?

  • my inducter broke when i fell from my amp now my ctybaby from hell wont work the inducter completely fell out of the pedal!!!!!! i have it in my hand as we speak is it broke forever please help!!!!!!

  • where do you get a fasel inductor? ebay or guitar center?

  • @ccslax6 Ebay, I've never seen one in a guitar shop, but lots online.

  • hi great video, really clear, where on earth do you get these fasel inductors from i,ve tried everywhere

  • Type these into h t t p bar in your browser ...

    True-bypass mod:

stinkfoot [daht] se [forward slash] archives [forward slash] 546

    LED mod:

stinkfoot [daht] se [forward slash] archives [forward slash] 553

    One sourve for switch(es):

area51tubeaudiodesigns [daht] com and click for Online Store then, select switch(es) on left side.

  • I bought my CBG95 (not Classic) a couple months ago and it, too, has a Fasel. It is a "Revision 1". Also, the soldering from factory of the Fasel inductor is horizontal to the input/output jacks (or east-west.) I think you soldered yours in vertically ( north-south ) but shouldn't make a difference (?)

  • When I got my crybaby original, it had a fasel in it but still sounded bad!

    Is it a real fasel?

  • i just opened up my GCB-95 and it had a fasel inductor stock, now i just need a 3pdt and an led

  • where can you get a fasel inductor?

  • @mistad00m From somewhere called the INTERNET

  • what type of a new inductor do you use ?

  • What is the best cheap soldering iron to use to work with pedal mods, and how much is is? Can you use any soldering iron?

  • @RigorMortisDeath pretty much. the only annoying thing that i've experienced with cheap irons is the power cables are usually too short (forcing you to be right next to an outlet)! i have a weller little mini-soldering station, comes with a stand and place for your sponge (to wet the tip). i think it was probably around 40 bucks but it's worth it if you're soldering a lot

  • @zeramski also they don't heat up as fast. but if you're decent at soldering any iron will do, really.

  • @zeramski thanks

  • @RigorMortisDeath you need a special soldering iron... At least 40W of power. Anything less will make a mess. Anything more will peel out the PCB traces. Also you need 60/40 Solder, It will give you more time before it cools down.

  • I'm confused because my wah is a Gcb- 95, but it has a red inductor. I don't know if it's fasel or not.

  • @Iamnotfrank it is mine has one

  • thank you! i did the 2.2k resistor mod and i knew there was one more mod to get a true "wah" instead of "oo-ah"...the mid range isnt competely there

  • So actually if you do this mod, you have the GCB-95F ???

  • Yeah pretty much, I ordered the parts to do all three of these mods he has up. I'll let you know how it goes.

  • pretty much!

  • pretty much

  • I love the sound of the distortion..anyone knows what's the name of that pedal? thank you guys!

  • Line 6 distortion

  • thank you so much!!

  • all the gcb-95s have fasel incductors mine had one and i got the pedal for 65$ at guitarcenter

  • what the fuck is this advice... GCB-95's have the inductor in this video....

  • Thanks man, really usefull tutiorial. Made changing the inductor really easy.

  • Spectacular tutorial!! I performed this same modification on my GCB-95 and it works like a champ!

  • Thank you again for this great tutorial. A must MOD for the GCB-95. What a difference in tone. I never used my pedal much before because of the harsh tone. So much smoother. I like my new pedal now and use it a lot more.

  • Thank you sooo much for these videos!!

  • yes it's exactly what he just did you just don't have true bypass on the Crybaby Classic so you might want to change that...

  • how's the classic cry baby fasel? is it fine?

  • Can I us the fl-02 (RED) inductor instead of the fl-01 (YELLOW)? What would happen if I did use the fl-02 instead of fl-01?

  • WHAT IS THE WHOLE DEAL WITH THE FASEL dOES IT MAKE IIT SOUND MORE CLASSIC OR WHAT?

  • So im not suppose to bend the legs on the fasel inductor? So how am i suppose to fit it into the not-as-wide spacing of the two holes? I see another set of holes beside those that are wider. am i suppose to put to through there instead?

  • You should use shorter cables in between your pedals, it genereally cuts down on noise, and there only like 3 bucks a piece at a music shop, that isnt guitar center.

  • Good vid, but that backing music is very irritating.

    Thanks!

  • Watched this and thought right i'm doing this..opened up my new gcb-95 . Hey presto,i have a fasel red inductor. Don't understand. does this mean i have a gcb-95 F ? it only says gcb-95. thanks for the film though. still want to mod the pedal...true bypass etc..buy the kit from ebay

  • Did you play an Uber Metal through your wah at the very end?

I am hoping to mod a gcb 95 soon and that high gain wah sound was perfect ... I hope my end result will sound as good.

    -AFF

  • yeah its a line 6 uber metal pedal, along with an ibanez lf7 lofi pedal which i didn't demo.

  • man that was awesome with the distortion, it was like 'wahawah, wahawah, SCREEAAM!!! wahawah, wahawah...' lol scared the living bejeesus outta me!

  • @Cappi666

    line6 pedals?

    very harsh and brittle sounding,

but that's just with my ears.

    i don't like digital pedals

  • i have a jim dunlop cry baby wah gcb 95 with Fasel....is it normal??

  • for some weird reason I opened my GCB-95 and i saw a fasel inductor instead of a stock inductor.

  • I know, I few days ago I opened up my GCB-95 and I saw a Stock Inductor and then today I opened it up again and saw a Fasel Inductor!!!! I swear to god

(Dear God, I am sorry for swearing. I was just trying to prove something, please empty my sin cup)

  • no i am serious!

  • I am too

  • pmg im sooo cereal too! lyke wah pedal fairies! pmg put yur wah under yur pillow at night to b like these guys!

  • for a long time wahs were produced with those inductors. The whole point of replacing a modern wah with the fasel is to get it back to the classic sound

  • i installed one on my hendrix wah. all i can say is SWEEET!!

  • I opened up the crybaby I just bought brand new yesterday and it says Fasel right on the stock inductor.

  • same here

  • So? did it sound better or not?

    Regards

  • A lot better.

It gives a much cleaner sweep through the frequencies than the stock inductor.

the stock inductor makes it sound like an 'oo-ah' pedal than a 'wah' pedal, as the frequencies in between the heel and toe down on the pedal disappear.

  • Hey guys, I'm new to wah mods...is that true that you can create a volume boost by replacing a 68k resistance by a lower value one. It would be great for me since I only use the wah for lead purpose, Thanx

  • wow, that does make a big difference actually... loving the vids btw, you explain everything really clearly, thanks.

  • the fasel or the whipple? apprently the whipple is ment to be alot better? wats ur pov?

  • is that an orginal crybaby? 69 bucks? mine has a dark red FASEL inductor alredy in it ... i jus bought it from guitarcenter...

  • No it's a reissue

  • I know I have the same thing

  • @msuman91 same her! but mine is orange

  • @msuman91 just bought one and it has red fasel too so i guess they changed the new pedals to this? sounds waaaaayyy better than my bros pedal which has old style so i am happy with it!!

  • Can anyone recommend the type of fasel to purchase, the toroidal or yellow cup core?

I'm looking to get a more vocal sound from the wah with a larger sweep through the frequencies.

    Thanks

  • can i install all the 3 mod of your 3 videos in an only wah? excuse me for my english!

  • Perfect tutorial ++++++

  • I recently bought the crybaby with the fasel inductor already inside and when i used it it made a very unneccesary scratchy clicking everytime i went back from the heel to the toe position so i replaced it and the new one is doing the same thing.

think you can help me out here?

  • First I'd try to take it back to see if you can at least exchange it for an identical one to tell whether it's faulty or not.

If it isn't faulty and you simply don't like the sweep of the wah, you can try replacing the 1.5k resistor that should be located to the left of the .01uF capacitor and below the inductor with something around 2k to 2.2k which is supposed to smooth out the transition from heel to toe.

I haven't tried it out myself but I plan on doing this mod to see how I like it.

  • Try spraying some contact lubricant in the pot for the wah sweep. I would think if it's scratching it's a dirty potentiometer. It's a very common and very easy fix.

  • The precision-wound toroidal inductor will give the cleanest sound possible. Use the yellow cup core model, part number P-ECB-FI-01 for a more vintage sound.

  • Wow, now it's alive! Can I have the exact model of the fasel inductor please? Also, I've found on ebay two types of fasel (toroidal and cup core) do you know the difference?

And finally, in your first video you're soldering a wire to the pcb. Can it be any wire?

    Thanks a lot :)
