Looks like you have the fluted barrel. Call up Kel Tec and they will send you the new revised barrel (if you haven't already.. I realize this video is 2 years old now.)
30 .22 magnum's = 15 .44 magnum's. lol Not quite, but I have a Five Seven and I have an S&W 351 pd. No way is the .22 mag = to the 5.7 x 28mm. The .22 mag hits great, but with the Five Seven I can take 100 yard shots all day long. It is so flat of a shooting round that it is right up there with my Mini 14 for accuracy. That to me is incredible for a pistol, to hit targets that I only went after with a rifle before I got it. Hit a soda can at 100 yards with that PMR 30. I dare ya!
I really like the idea of 30 rounds of .22 mag. The gun is a bit industrial looking but I kind of like that. While I would like to think it would make an ok carry gun, I just don't know that I could get behind anything rimfire & in that caliber for self defense. Yes, .22 mag is a wicked little cartridge it's still not on par with the larger calibers. Yes, you've got 30 rounds but still. Also the site falling off was bothersome but I'm sure it was a fluke or corrected by now @ Kel-Tec.
Also I like how your showing it in rapid fire that is most likely how someone is going to pull the trigger in a bad situation i don't think someone would take their time to pull the trigger when they get shot at
06:12 dog stops barking when he fires.. "Oh no he killed the dog!"... He stops for a moment, dog resumes barking like "yeah that's right I'm still alive f***er!".
I liked your video. Good Job! I wanted this gun before I seen your video. I still like it but, I believe that a gun should be able to fire any brand of ammo and, a good gun should do it with out failure. Thanks and, GOD BLESS AMERICA!!!!!!!
My thought are that this is a great camping, hunting (secondary), hiking, bug out, and plinking gun. I struggle with it as EDC. One, it's large in size; two, 22 although deadly it's not my first choice; and third, to say that you might need 30rds to put into someone, good luck with the lawyers if you do! Kel-Tec has been doing some great 'out of the box' guns and this one has lots of uses. Looks like a great open carry camping gun. Thanks for the review!
i have a smith and wesson 351pd , and everybody thought i was nuts to get a 22 mag , i wont stand in front of gun to get shot with. only thing i dont like is any manufacturer telling what ammo i must buy to be reliable . 1 reason i bought revolver.
Remember: PMR-30 while eminently practical, and it is not the only solution, here, too. Thank you, Eric for these informative and fun videos. Hopefully, I can do some for you featuring Tank, my chihuahua.
this gun is that all wanted it, so Keltec rushed the production before its full perfection. Now, it should be fully perfected. I'd use JSP rounds for the best combo of reliability, penetration and expansion. Usage mindset: The German and Astra 9mm 'broomhandle' pistols were cheap, high capacity(with 20 round mags)pistols for defense(1950s), 9mm Luger is centerfire, .22 magnum is rimfire. ATI FS9 9mm pistol with its 20 round mag would also fill this need, too.(cont'd).
@EvilxMerlin i was not aware my mother had anything to do with a gun? sounds like a 11 year old boy is angry at my bashing of shitty gun. it's a cheaply made gun with low quality parts ESP the mags, when he chambers the first round he has to hit the back fairly hard(recipe for accidental fires and a big safety risk) and the front site FALLS OFF the front of the gun.... all in all it looks like a POS and that's my opinion.
Find me one other pistol like it... like any pistol, you get good and bad units at times. I've known the occasional Kimber to have issues too. You don't like KelTec. Got it.
Wouldn't recommend a wmr as a CCW weapon. The velocity is way too high on the maxi vs a weapons where you want the expansion and grain of the bullet to slow it down on impact so you don't shoot through. Also I can't imagine a situation that would merit 30 rnds to stop an intruder. Over killing an assailant will certainly get you hung by a judge
heard the first group of these that went out has issues. i think it was extraction not sure though. are the sites removable? this looks like a good duracoat project for me
the double [or even triple] stack rimfire has me nervous, with all those rims neatly stacked on top of another... is there a safety issue say, with a magazine dropped from a higher than usual height?
@tanker0wns1 it jammed when they used the rounds not recommended by kel-tec. it did not jam when using the recommended cci maxi-mag. the gun is not a piece of shit.
@threelittleniglets see a gun shouldent need an expensive bullet to operate. i can understand a gun shooting steel rounds all over the place at 100 yds but not functioning properly when using brass??? that tells you its not a good gun.
@tanker0wns1 I'm with you. I was thinking of buying a PMR 30, and wouldn't mind feeding it a particular brand of ammo. But when the front sight fell off of that one, well................
i cant buy this in maryland would someone tell me how i can get my hands on one of theese im about ready to move to somewhere with better state laws it makes me so mad i saw this gun waited and waited for it to come then my local gun store said its not legal in maryland
@Varianna12 I went to the gun store today, and they told me it's illegal..........I am thinking about moving to NV........even PX4 Subcompact is illegal!
@moderndesignworks I lived in Calif 'till I was 15. Nice place, but the last catastrophic gun law they passed would have sent me to Nevada also. My Uncle got taxed over to Nevada back in the 80s.
@Varianna12 80s??? It wasn't even that bad compare to now even for taxes, I have friends got the NV residence but still live here in CA, but on the paper they don't live here, I think that's the best way to go, kind like domestic illegals........lol
All that being said, I have a PMR on order, because it looks like a fun gun, and should be reliable once broken in and used with the right ammo. And a lot cheaper to shoot then my 45.
I have read a lot of comments on this vid about using this gun as a defense firearm. 2 things, reliability being number one. I have an XD 45 that has NEVER had a FTF, or a jam, secondly theres a huge difference between killing power, and stopping power. Say a 120 lb woman is using it to shoot a 220 lb bad guy across a 20 ft room who is charging at her. She gets off 10 shots, he still gets to her, takes the gun, kills her before he dies. With a 45, it should be one and done. No question.
@SimpleDanForever I cant afford a $1000 gun as much as i wold love one, also a FN PS90,M1A,Kel tec KSG(the shotgun if i got the name wrong),a Sig 556,Sig P226,Colt1911,ColtSAA, and so on,but my wallet isn't gold and full of daimonds
that look very good the barrel is fluted and it see to be a very good gun for the price yes i would like to have one 5.7 but it is to expensive and the rounds for it is very hard to find here in Puerto Rico

I hate how everyone is trying to make the PMR-30 a defensive firearm! The .22WMR cases are rather thin & dent easily... I would rather have something more durable for defensive use. Just my .000002 cents :)
all kel tec gun, if you read the manuel, say that when getting a new gun the gun will jam until all the new parts are broken in (which is after 100 rounds).
seems like CCI is the only way to go in .22lr pistols...my cheap jimenez 22 only likes CCI mini mags..had 0 jams using that ammo but remington thunderbolt subsonic federal lightning...a no go...
any1 carrying this pistol loaded with Hornady Critical Defense ammunition would be deadly, regardless of shot placement. If the bullet hits the target, the target is going to know it, long before shot #10 or 20 has been fired. An excellent carry piece in my opinion.
@GNut1980 yeah, .....i just placed an order for mine last night....they care going to call me when they are in stock though, they are being backordered like crazy, haha.
@EL3minutero Y not carry it for serious self defense? it wud b better than the sig sauer mosquito that i have carried for over a year now. i think any pistol that has the same capacity as an assault rifle is great, regardless of the caliber. as long as it is maintained and remains reliable. Just curious about such a strong opinion is all, not trying to start a fight.
Nice I really like this gun on paper.. Im just waiting for a .22lr model since I don't don't already have a .22mag, Don't wanna have another caliber to stock.
question, did you load the bullets properly? because placing a bullet over another in the wrong pattern the rims will catch and cause a feeding failure
@Iraqevetran8888 It's A Nice Pistol But Really No MAtch For The Fn 5.7 x 28. I Think If 21 Rounds Of 5.7x28 Won't Do The Job Then You Need To Learn How To Shoot Or Get The MAg Extention For 30 Rounds And Yes You Could Buy "2" For The Price,I Got My 5.7 For About $1100 With Tax BWT I Wouldn't Use Solvent On The pollimer Parts Of That Gun Only What The Manufacturer Recomends.VEry Nice Review Of The Gun Though Buddy Nice Plinker But Wouldn't WAnt To Bet My Life On It Compaired To The FN 5.7
Nutnfancy just had a run and gun with 2 of these that were brought over by a keltec rep. They had quite a few failures as well. The guns were dry at first but even after they fixed that there were issues.
@Umimugo Steel cased isn't gonna be found in .22 WMR. And autoloading rimfires are ammo-sensitive in general; I've only had a couple that didn't choke on certain ammo.
This gun seems to have the same problems as the DP .380 pocket pistol....For the most part it just needs break in or minor bur removal from internal components...I might go ahead and get one....
Really great video. Thanks for the upload. Nice people like you taking your time to review guns makes the buying choice so much easier for other people. Take care.
@L0GAN811 U can find them for 350-400 brand new if you shop and have patience. Gunbroker sometimes has them for these prices, but you gotta wait for the prices to be good. Usualy they are 450 or so. Stores will charge you a lot more, 550 or so.
And remember, Kel Tecs need a 100 round breaking in period with recommended ammo before they are reliable, it it isn't like it is the only manufacture that has that either.
So.. When you said that was a police officer shooting at around 7:20 do you guys both have the same watches on the left wrist? And your fingers look alot alike, you must be brothers?
@clm0028 That is funny because even the grip is exactly the same with the left hand over the right and the fingers are in the exact same spot. Good eyes
There is indeed a large difference in price between this and the 5-7... but... my Five-seveN has had zero failures of any kind throughout an entire case of ammunition. For a police officer (like myself) or even anyone, knowing that when you pull the trigger the bang is gonna happen is an important thing.
Not knocking the gun in any way though - that's just sort of par for the course for a .22 caliber rimfire.
Is it the Maxi Mag +V? I've been looking at these PMR30s. I love shooting 22 mags out of my Rough Rider. I've shot a few kinds of mags out of my Rough Rider (including the CCI Maxi Mags) and I've found the Federal 30grn Speer TNT to be my favorite by far. Have you tried using them cartridges in the PMR30? I've been looking for a conceal carry gun (I am a revolver guy and don't care for auto-loading cartridges, but I do like my rimfire) and I have been wondering about this.
1st: Thanks for being the only gun reviewer to pronounce "ambidextrous" correctly. 2nd: Isn't the "blowback/lock breach hybrid" operation supposed to prevent jamming from different types (pressures) of ammo?
The one thing that always keeps me away from Kel Tec are the way they always screw their guns together. The lower portion of the pistol should be one piece.
Hello - im about 15, not the strongest in the bynch, and fairl new to real firearms, (After years of safty, i know how to handle some weapons) This looks like a fine weapon for my needs, if possiable, please awnser the following questions.
Hows the recoil?
Good for begginers?
Stopping power (Looking for home defense, fun, begginers, and well, notinhg larger then a dear hunting)
@scrateshooter Yea I'm thinking more along the lines of a 7.62Nato hi cap battle rifle. Have those in every home and that will scare the shit out of more of them.
@paulc43 It ran fine with the CCI Maximags. Some guns are picky with amunition. Given that CCI maximags are the standard (IMO) on 22WMR, I don't think its a big deal.
really good review, enjoyed it. it would be a bad idea to pick a fight with someone carrying that thing. who cares if a 5.7x28 is faster. IMO would you rather get kicked in the head with a steal toed boot or just a regular boot, either way you loose. arguments over caliber is goofy.
In your opinion do you think the two fails where because of the Grain and Overall weight of the rounds that are not the ones that are recommended?
Also as for concealed carry do you think that its a better choice than my Glock 22? I have been looking for a replacement and this weapon looks like a good alternative.
Looks like you have the fluted barrel. Call up Kel Tec and they will send you the new revised barrel (if you haven't already.. I realize this video is 2 years old now.)

Tap the mag every 2-5 rounds when loading( check kel-tec's youtube account "keltecweapons",they explain it in a video "PMR-30 review" )
load it like this(same vid as metioned above)
tap the back for the slide for it to set right
If ti doesn't feed right drop the mag and rack the slide then shoot the round
Cant they just make a single stack mag? seriously,it seems like it would fix a couple problems.

KingQ700 8 months ago
mmmmm.........GET YOUR MONEY BACK FOR IT, and for crying out loud, DO NOT CARRY IT FOR SERIOUS SELF DEFENSE
EL3minutero 8 months ago
@EL3minutero Y not carry it for serious self defense? it wud b better than the sig sauer mosquito that i have carried for over a year now. i think any pistol that has the same capacity as an assault rifle is great, regardless of the caliber. as long as it is maintained and remains reliable. Just curious about such a strong opinion is all, not trying to start a fight.
blackBLUR89 8 months ago
Nice I really like this gun on paper.. Im just waiting for a .22lr model since I don't don't already have a .22mag, Don't wanna have another caliber to stock.
Also hope they come out with one in in .17hmr
opisex 8 months ago
question, did you load the bullets properly? because placing a bullet over another in the wrong pattern the rims will catch and cause a feeding failure

@Iraqevetran8888 It's A Nice Pistol But Really No MAtch For The Fn 5.7 x 28. I Think If 21 Rounds Of 5.7x28 Won't Do The Job Then You Need To Learn How To Shoot Or Get The MAg Extention For 30 Rounds And Yes You Could Buy "2" For The Price,I Got My 5.7 For About $1100 With Tax BWT I Wouldn't Use Solvent On The pollimer Parts Of That Gun Only What The Manufacturer Recomends.VEry Nice Review Of The Gun Though Buddy Nice Plinker But Wouldn't WAnt To Bet My Life On It Compaired To The FN 5.7
tylerdurden1971 9 months ago
@tylerdurden1971 however while the .22WMR costs about $0.20 a cartridge(average Cartridge) , the 5.7x28 for about $0.50 (cheapest)
Umimugo 8 months ago
Nutnfancy just had a run and gun with 2 of these that were brought over by a keltec rep. They had quite a few failures as well. The guns were dry at first but even after they fixed that there were issues.
RhuarcWoT 9 months ago
Why is the pmr so ammo restrictive?
GothChristianPatriot 9 months ago
@GothChristianPatriot its made my kel-tec They make good weapons but they a little picky on ammo, specifically steel casing ammo
Umimugo 8 months ago
@Umimugo Steel cased isn't gonna be found in .22 WMR. And autoloading rimfires are ammo-sensitive in general; I've only had a couple that didn't choke on certain ammo.

This gun seems to have the same problems as the DP .380 pocket pistol....For the most part it just needs break in or minor bur removal from internal components...I might go ahead and get one....

How much did you pay for this pistol?
L0GAN811 10 months ago
@L0GAN811 U can find them for 350-400 brand new if you shop and have patience. Gunbroker sometimes has them for these prices, but you gotta wait for the prices to be good. Usualy they are 450 or so. Stores will charge you a lot more, 550 or so.
SupremeAmerican 10 months ago
And remember, Kel Tecs need a 100 round breaking in period with recommended ammo before they are reliable, it it isn't like it is the only manufacture that has that either.
dragonamt 11 months ago
Needs a .22 hornet (that would be an epic chambering feat ).
dragonamt 11 months ago
That's a lot of failures for a carry gun.

does kel-tec make the stock they used on the full auto version for the semi?

So.. When you said that was a police officer shooting at around 7:20 do you guys both have the same watches on the left wrist? And your fingers look alot alike, you must be brothers?

@clm0028 That is funny because even the grip is exactly the same with the left hand over the right and the fingers are in the exact same spot. Good eyes
DThompson1985 11 months ago
so it seemed the cci load suggested worked flawlessly, have you had any issues with feeding from the suggested load since this video?
azreal289 11 months ago
There is indeed a large difference in price between this and the 5-7... but... my Five-seveN has had zero failures of any kind throughout an entire case of ammunition. For a police officer (like myself) or even anyone, knowing that when you pull the trigger the bang is gonna happen is an important thing.
Not knocking the gun in any way though - that's just sort of par for the course for a .22 caliber rimfire.

can you shoot 22. lr out of this?
SuRv1v3R97 1 year ago
@SuRv1v3R97 No, no you can not. There is some talk in Kel-tec about maybe making a .22Lr version in the future, but no plans yet.

Riflemanm16a2 1 year ago
The one thing that always keeps me away from Kel Tec are the way they always screw their guns together. The lower portion of the pistol should be one piece.

Hello - im about 15, not the strongest in the bynch, and fairl new to real firearms, (After years of safty, i know how to handle some weapons) This looks like a fine weapon for my needs, if possiable, please awnser the following questions.
Hows the recoil?
Good for begginers?
Stopping power (Looking for home defense, fun, begginers, and well, notinhg larger then a dear hunting)
Any way to attach a scope?
Tritium sights aviable?

Don't compare .22 mag to 5.7x28. The 5.7 isn't a caliber, it's a religon!

A PMR30 in every home in America would be enough to scare China or Mexico.
scrateshooter 1 year ago
@scrateshooter Yea I'm thinking more along the lines of a 7.62Nato hi cap battle rifle. Have those in every home and that will scare the shit out of more of them.

@scrateshooter if only the state laws would allow....i whole-heartedly agree. Plinking fun and protection factor.

paulc43 1 year ago
@paulc43 It ran fine with the CCI Maximags. Some guns are picky with amunition. Given that CCI maximags are the standard (IMO) on 22WMR, I don't think its a big deal.

Looks like a sweet pistol to practice/plink with. Is .22 magnum relatively inexpensive and easy to find?
cmitsou83 1 year ago
really good review, enjoyed it. it would be a bad idea to pick a fight with someone carrying that thing. who cares if a 5.7x28 is faster. IMO would you rather get kicked in the head with a steal toed boot or just a regular boot, either way you loose. arguments over caliber is goofy.
mattvanhugenstein 1 year ago
In your opinion do you think the two fails where because of the Grain and Overall weight of the rounds that are not the ones that are recommended?
Also as for concealed carry do you think that its a better choice than my Glock 22? I have been looking for a replacement and this weapon looks like a good alternative.
Thanks
