This song inspired so many good people to keep on going when the bullwhips cracked, the bullets flew, when thrown in jails, because when sung from the soul it evokes and unites us in the knowledge we so often hide from in our fast paced, money oriented, politicized dog-eat-dog society - the knowledge of how we ALL can live together peacefully. Don't let them divide us. In unity is our strength.
If this does not move you, then nothing will. I grew up with Pete in that generation, civil rights movement and Vietnam war, and this song, as wonderful as it is, is still as relevant today as it was then. What hope and passion. It just gets me every time I listen to it!!
Nice, thanks Sarah, great Thanksgiving gift.. I initially thought Odetta too but then remembered, sadly, that she was no longer with. Yes, Bernice Johnson Reagan. Joan Baez, ha rd to tell t he rest, it's so fuzzy.
Those two black women, WOW! and if you listen very carefully, you can hear Ani up in the higher part of the harmony. So amazing, I wish I could have been there live.
Thank you for posting this. I was at the concert and I don't think that I've ever been moved as much as this song at this concert moved me. Finding this made my week!

How wonderful to watch this again, and think of our dear Egyptian brothers and sisters in their moment of celebration, as they, too, have overcome.
