We've come a long way, baby...! Many thanks to the "Tough as shit" generation that came before us! We owe you more than you will ever know...and we won't forget it!
Was there a gay bar called the Red ?????, not on Hollywood Blvd? I was on a Scholarship at UCLA for two summers in a row. Did you know Stephen Eyraud, Ricky Mott, and their friends? Loved that group.
I started the first gay student organization at my college in Florida in 1974. One of our first actions was to expose the Police Department's practice of using enticement and entrapment to arrest people at the "gay section" of our local beach. I marched right to City Hall and lodged a complaint with the City Commissioners, but first I sent a press release to all the local newspapers and TV stations. Boy, did we get a lot of publicity!!! Now I've been a gay activist for nearly 40 years!
@erwcat Thank you. My greatest accomplishment was being the founder of the Stonewall Library & Archives, the largest LGBT library in the southeastern US. You can see videos of it here on YouTube.
This is a fantastic documentary! I am making one myself of the Gay History/Pride timeline and struggle today. If anyone want to contribute in any way, please contact me at dosmaridosUK@gmailcom

Im 14 and gay and I am so proud of the older lgbt generation. I commend them for putting up with the discrimination they had to deal with during their youth. If it weren't for them, it'd be even harder for a gay person to come out. Much love. <3
I am PRO-GAY. but can you imagine someone drilling into your head from the day you were born and up that being gay was wrong? I mean i would probably of listened. \So i really dont blame the cops, chances are they were told that being gay was wrong from the beginning but oh bless these men i mean they had the guts to come out when everyone against it. I mean the cops, the gays, i think niether are at fault here. Its the jackass who started the idea that being gay was wrong in the first place.
still police in LA ueses its ritual so medieval, one goes to a public bathroom and provocate a man to look at his dick - and then he arrests him. Read the George Michael story and you know what I mean. A real shame. And look at those US-Amercian fundamentalistic Christians who influences countries like Uganda to release one of the strictes anti-gay law.... A shame!
So glad these stories are being told. America has so much to admit to re. crimes against minorities; I'm happy to see the truth finally being told by eye witnesses. It would be nice to hear something from those undercover cops: let them explain why they followed such horrible orders, and why they murdered so many gay people.
wow, it was so different then than it is now. but we still deal with a lot of the same bullshit that our forfathers and mothers dealt with. we've still come far, but have a long way to go...
Thanks to activists who fought back and took a stand, people are freer and safer but we aren't done yet. 5 states allow gay marriage, only 45 more to go. Someday we WILL have equal protection under the law for EVERYONE!!!!!
God Lord, now you can't get a cop to come to a gay bar unless there's an expensive fire code been broken. Thanks to all the old timers, now I can scream and play with COCK just about anywhere I want! COCK!
The Other Side was my neighborhood bar. I started going there in the early 70's when it was the Toy Tiger. It became, after that, Rounds, Houstons and finally The Other Side. What fond memories I have of that place which became my "living room". Great job. Keep us posted on when and where it goes public.
I love talking to older gay men about the old days. But, inevitably, they make a pass at me. I'm flattered, of course, but thanks, no thanks, know what I mean? Maybe I'm just a tease.
This is such a great piece of history that needs to be told. I love the visuals with the old footage with the interviews. When is this going to be in the theater?

I just love how anything in black and white, in slow motion, with dramatized opera music makes anything look like being fed to the lions.

There are still homophobic cops who deliberately target LGBT people for violent mistreatment.
