When i first heard this song (when i was 11), i thought my dad was calling me in the other room. Turned out it was the chorus of this song (my name is Chas).
Wow, never thought id find this song, heard it so many times but now I've discovered it accidently after hearing an us3 album in a shop the other day!
Jump to the jam, boogy woogy jam slam Bust the dialect I'm the man in command Come flow with the sounds of the mighty mic masta When I rhyme on the mic I bring a sucka disasta Beaucoup bucks and I still rock Nike With the razzle dazzle star I might be Scribble scrabble on the microphone I babble As I flip the funky words, into a puzzle Yes yes yes, on and on as I flex Get with the flow words manifest Feel the vibe from here to Asia Dip trip - flip fantasia
when my father was at North Sea Jazz festival. 20 year back. He heard this trompet coming from somewhere. Very small room, smokey, a lot of people. Should have been there...
When I was a kid my mother and I used to rock out in the car to this song. Which was about the only time my strict upright mother ever cut loose. Ahhh memories!
Man, I used to hear this played through so many movie montages and trailers. The "Bidi-bidi-bop" part always stuck with me, but I never knew the name of the track until this day and hour! 0_0
I'm pretty much mainly into Rock, Metal, and Blues music (some Jazz and country too) but this is defiantly a fantastic song. I've always wanted to go to my high school, where most of the kids are into pop and modern day rap, and play this at a dance-show them some good hip hop
damn it, I need to find another posting of this song that's much louder, 'cuz as it is I can't add it to any of my party playlists 'cuz the volumes too low. ;(
What are those horn thingys that those guys are playing? Why isn't this auto tuned? Were are the naked ladies? Why do these guys have uuuuhhh what is it called again??? Talent????
@jonpowells If you listen to that original song, you'll see it's quite different from what they're playing here. They actually play it themselves, making it their own, unlike the "artists" of today who just sample music, no talent involved.
This track makes me so crazy happy I don't even know why! When it came out I heard it in a store and froze! I HAD TO KNOW WHAT IT WAS AND HAVE IT! To this day, it is one of the coolest, hippest, grooviest tracks I have ever heard produced. Reminds me a bit of Herbie Hancock if he was born 20 years later... he might have done something like this. Yellow Umbrellas on sped up 45.... frickin' awesome! This track Cantaloop is a Classic!
Why the hell do we see an uncomparable song from the black eyed peas as a first suggestion? Worst thing? BEP has 58 880 000 views as this one only has 222 253...
I used to have a CD that had several different mixes of this song and I would play it on repeat until my parents got annoyed and yelled at me. Now I'm grown and have my OWN house and I can listen to it on repeat all I want! Until my kids get annoyed and yell at me.
You guys realize this is good just cause it samples Cantaloupe Island, right? Try listening to "Herbie Hancock - Jazz Fusion Cantelope Island" here on youtube. Anyway I'm glad hip-hop listeners get to know some good music with this US3 song.
@TakashiMiike Yeah they did sample from that bigtime but Hancock had no words in that instrumental. They sped up the beat and put words to the instrumental. I remember Rick Dees pointing that out when it hit the charts almost 20 years ago now. So many songs sample that you still have to give US3 credit for their one and only hit. A top ten that sounded different than anything before or since then. A unique hit. And a top ten one hit wonder at that.
@TakashiMiike It's not good JUST because it samples Cantaloupe Island. Cantaloupe Island is great, no doubt about it, but you can't tell me that Cantaloop is only good because of the original track. The updated sound, the lyrics, the video...it turned a great jazz tune into a great hip hop/jazz fusion tune.
so classy, I REALLY like this kind of music. So glad to be 26.
