  • Me and my mom was crying cuz the saints returned to a broken city

  • I'm watching this on my phone and it's Loud.

  • the most epic night in NFL history...and that's coming from a PACKER FAN

This was much more important than a super bowl

  • @OneManWolfPack44 it is going also going to be epic to see dan marino's record move to second place. it could happen against the falcons....

  • @LthrncknDshwshr yep, Brees deserves it

  • lol 2;28 was awesome

  • Lived it. Don't want to ever live the total misery again. Thank you Saints for pulling me through the clinical depression. You were EVERYTHING to me I wish I could say that about my country. It never happened. Correction. It happened 3 years after the fact..

  • @doctorj2u2 thank goodness for football....saints football

  • @LthrncknDshwshr

That day and night was pure joy to me. JOY! Thanks for posting such a seminal moment in my life.

  • notice how the announcers were speachless for over a minute there...

  • legendary game.

  • @dieselgq I am not sure if there will be another event as significant as this one.

  • @LthrncknDshwshr you do realize we won the Super Bowl, that trumps this play by a good margin, but its still one of the best plays in the history of football.

  • The kinda stuff movies are made of... I think one day they will indeedl make a film adaption of the Saints' story, but probably combine the 06 and 09 season for thematic purposes.. I look forward to it.

  • chills

  • goddamn i love my city :')

  • Notice the ball gets snapped for the blocked punt on 13:37

    Symbolic or Coincidence

  • @Bullrider300 could very well be both. 5 years makes a big difference. gleason being on the field holding onto brees was emotional. no doubt.

  • @Bullrider300 cause it was a great day for NEW ORLEANS

  • happy anniversary!

  • One thing I'll never forget: was in Illinois visiting family when Katrina had passed, about 4 days after the end of the storm, Canadian National was running about 5 trains per day facing southbound, LOADED with lumber, boxcars, trucks, etc, all on the old Crescent City line.

  • @Hiei2k7 It's amazing how quick help comes after a disaster of this magnitude. This country is the best country in the world.

  • 2 Dislikes iz Jim Mora Jr and Mike Vick SMMFH

  • and then vick gets arrested after the year

  • @NextHW5 vick will need to be stopped by the dallas cowboys this year. i have to root for the cowboys this year.

  • @mu2ic1 Welcome to the brotherhood of former-Lions-now-Saints fans. I always thought the Lions were better then they are and they would get to the Super Bowl before the Saints or Cardinals would, but I guess not. WHO DAT!

  • 6 years ago today this moment was being planted

  • Holly shit, I remember watching this in New York. It was a very great moment foe New Orleans.

  • WHO DAT, Superdome!!!

  • "...John Carney for the extra point." Really? That's all you can say after that?!

  • i love my hometown! new orleans, born and raised

  • From that moment on, New Orleans Saints football was never the same.

  • Still gives me goosebumps each time

  • WAs there!!!!!!!! never forget!

  • @iNolaNightmare

this is a hard thing to forget. no one is going to forget this.

  • They call that film, douchebag!!

  • I hate American Football and I hate NFL, But this was one of the most emotional games of any sport in history!

  • el video mas tonto del mundo y idiota del mundo

  • @ebaumsworld1529 The Who Dat Nation needs you ebaumsworld1529! We'd love you to come and join the party!

  • im a eagles fan i was going with the saints that night who wasnt

  • Falcons had no chance, none, nada.

  • Never gets old.

  • 2:22-2:30 That all I gotta say

  • There has never been an NFL game with this unique set of circumstances and depth of emotion. As a first row witness, there was absolute electricity in that stadium that night. I've never felt that mix of intense emotion: anticipation, hope, rage, concentration, fearlessness, exhilaration, brotherhood, euphoria, the deepest sense of pride, with a sense of mysticism in the air. The resurrection of a city, a culture, a spiritual experience, much more than a game. What a night . . .

  • @whodat00 . i felt it just watching the tv......

  • @whodat00 Man, that sent chills down my spine, I was tearing up, watching the final seconds close out, 2006 was the greatest in Saints history (besides the Super Bowl year)..I've been a diehard fan since I was born, and I tell you ever sdince that night, the Saints and there fans have grown into much more than football.. When a team steps into the dome, they dont just play the Saints, They play the Whole state of LOUISIANA! thats why win or lose, I will always be proud to be a Saints fan! WHODAT

  • @whodat00 man i live in baltimore, but im from NY and im a crazed JETS fan..but i remember watching this game and thinking to myself Vick and the falcons didnt have a chance in hell to win this game...you couldve pulled 22 fans out of their seats that night, and just on emotion alone they couldve beat ATL, the Super Dome was ELECTRIC, i felt it..and when the saints blocked that punt...smh...it was like GOD himself was on the saints side that night

  • lol at Rey Mysterio mask.

  • Just amazing!!!

  • So much love for my city. I love it.. Tears of joy right now 6 years later. Something like this can really touch you

  • Never gets Old I love u New Orleans

  • Haha. That's back when Drew Brees wasn't "Drew Brees". He was just "Number Nine".

  • From Katrina to Champs. The BEST turnaround story of all time.

  • i cried during this game. WHO DAT BABY! to anyone who hates on this team and says that we suck, at least we love our team no matter what, at least we have a team that we can be proud of, what this team has done for this city is amazing, we will always be loyal to our team, even if we go not winning one game, if we were losing 0 -60 in a game we would still stay and give out team a standing ovation

  • i hate when people say that the saints still suck. they beat the falcs and the steelers and had the closest tie game i have ever seen against the flacs. 11-5 isnt suck

  • God was not responsible for this, so if you think so, I'm sorry that you do.

  • they just beat the falcons 17-14!!!! WHO DAT!

  • @wes3tomcat , as this season winds down, we all await a patriots-saints superbowl. if it doesn't happen, at least we won one.

  • @wes3tomcat who dat seahawks

  • @machiiniiima bears won

  • @wes3tomcat idc im not a hawks fan. sAints

  • that blocked punt touchdown was probably the loudest first quarter touchdown in NFL history.

  • The Saints have some great players such as Drew, Reggie etc but to have a TEAM you got to have guys like Steave Gleason. You hardly ever hear their name but they make plays. Look at Chris Reis who recovered the onside kick in the Super Bowl. You never hear his name but he just keeps making plays! I think the punt block was the start to our run to the Super Bowl. Go Saints and Go Steave Gleason!!!

  • damn that punt block td still sends chills down my spine.

  • @MSMRU i don't think any comeback story can top new orleans, not even michael vick.

  • Drew Brees made a nice block!

  • @Lisvonian - that's what happens when you have a dedicated player.

  • It still can make me tear up.....

  • @Kyleboy337 when they won the superbowl with an interception, life became different.

  • To those that don't believe in God, well, this is your proof...

  • @jeterj1107 right on.

  • @jeterj1107 i've never understood that logic. Where was God when so many of our people died in Katrina? But he made us block a punt? I just don't get it.

  • @jeterj1107 where?

  • @jeterj1107 what. just because they are ecalled the saints and because they had a stellar game their first game back at the dome? if that is what you mean i kno god can't really do something all the time. But the new orleans SAINTS have sucked for a very long time before and 3 years after 2006. not hating but just asking. I hate it when people say thankyou god for this great game. it's the player that does the work. not god. Football magazines never mention how good st, joseph played.

  • Why did it have to be the Falcons that day? I mean with the circumstances going on, no opponent wouldn't have won. This game I will always remember as Falcons fan.

  • the falcons never stood a chance

  • im a cowboys fan....but no one could have went in that building and won that night...the only time in all my life i pulled for a team other than my COWBOYS!!!

  • @ebru111379 you guys played great thanksgiving.

  • Best night of my life, the dome was amazing

  • @NoLookOuch - i wish i was there.

  • See thats when they had to tell you what number Drew Brees was, not no more!

    WHO DAT BABY!

  • @Rayan9976 - glad he chose new orleans.

  • I didn't think that the NFL was supposed to be on youtube. THIS IS AWESOME!

  • curtis deloatch...aggie pride!!! representing!!!

  • that blocked punt... never heard any stadium that fucking loud. Unbelieveable.

  • number 39 recover the block punt right? number 39 also recovered the onside kick in the Superbowl

  • @CajunLady05 / never noticed that. but yes, it was in both instances that the number that recovered a game-changing special teams play was wearing #39.

  • WHO DAT KISS SOME ASS THE SAINTS MARCHING TO HISTORY!!

  • WHO DAT!!! SUPER BOWL 44 CHAMPS!!

  • I think at 2:56 you can see some falcon fans happy for the saints

  • @texasownou - after many frustrating losses to vick and the falcons, this game signified the end to vick's career.

  • @LthrncknDshwshr While Vick was 6-1 against the Saints before Sean Payton became coach, 2006 Payton whipped his ass! 6-3. Haslett and our coaching staff sucked. Payton new how to defend a punk who could not pass. Vick was nothing more than a rb!

  • i think the fumble was recovered by the saints before he went out oh well but they still won

  • hey bmwtsu. i for one am one of those few that do understand. i grew up in new orleans lived there for 22 years then katrina hit. this game will never be forgotten by me its almost as rememerable as the superbowl victory. i was fortunate enough to be in town when both of those games (home opener and the superbowl) just the most electric atmosphere you could ever imagine. i def. still tear up.

  • @Mr3Smileyy want some cheese with that whine? Have fun being the third best team in the NFC North this year.

  • been a falcon fan all my life but when the Saints blocked that punt i'm not gonna lie I teared up a bit. you could feel the emotion in the stadium just sitting at home, glad they got their Superbowl. Geaux Saints!

  • @WhurDeyDoDatAt i got choked up also. the announcers were silent for about a minute.

  • what was the final score

  • @SaintsFan4Life1 - 23-3

  • @Mr3Smileyy Vikes who? Sorry nobody remembers losers, especially sore losers. Don't worry you have years to ponder it...

  • On the 2nd TD, when I saw Drew Brees give his body up for that touchdown. I told myself this guy's work ethic is going to pay off. Three years later he brings the Lombardi home. Who Dat? DREW DAT!

  • Im not a saints fan, but the part where they blocked the field goal and the crowd went nuts gave me goosebumps. A glorious night in NFL history, reopening the dome for New Orleans and the saints winning.

  • 2009 saints had the toughest schedule of 200 9. everything happened this year. blowouts, thriller endings, acrobatic interceptions, come from behind wins, clutch kicks, bush flies, lance converts while tumbling, meachem plays defense, deuce and mckenzie return shortly, brees passes the ball to everyone, shockey and sharper gets revenge, good quarterbacks get defeated and so much more...the saints are world champions

  • @LthrncknDshwshr

The 2009 New Orleans Saints were the best team to have every taken any field in The NFL. Every time we go to New Orleans to visit family, I could always remember looking at that dome, just wishing to see a WWF (now WWE) show back when I was a kid. I also remember seeing it a month after Katrina. Torn up pieces of material on the roof.

There's just some kind of presence that team gives to New Orleans that makes it no ordinary football team.

  • @Parahdoks92 - There was something special about the team since its inception. Now it is even more special with a superbowl win. I am glad it happened in my lifetime. I purchased the superbowl DVD. what a great buy.

  • @LthrncknDshwshr BEST COMMENT EVER!!! WHO DAT!! GEAUX SAINTS!!SBXLIV CHAMPS!!!!

  • @LthrncknDshwshr Your comment gave me chills. WHO DAT!!!!!!

  • saints 31 Vikings 28

best officiating i have ever seen.

    Geaux Saints

  • i would've wanted to be there so badly, I'm so glad the Saints finally won the big game

  • @broad08530 - yes. life is complete.

  • there was no way the saints were going to loose this game. bottom line.

  • @MrSammyj1234

i thought this game was going to be a shootout.

  • 9/25/06 was greatest returning game n team history and Michael Vick first game n da Dome since da 2002 season

  • @jwatts456

they had a tough schedule in 2006 but it was an even tougher schedule in 2009.

  • Warner, and then Favre, and then Manning ... that's one of the toughest gauntlets that any team has ever had to run. This was an unbelievable year, I can't wait to see if we can come back and give a repeat performance.

  • I remember this game sitting on duty with GySgt Lyons (a Cowboys fan) at Cherry Point, NC. Fuck. HIstory in the makiing. I wished then and wish now that I was in the place of my birth, New Orleans, at the time.

  • "THIS IS NEW ORLEANS!!!"

  • i was a falcon fan during this game, but now im a who dat after the michael vick dogfighting thing..

  • that's the spirit...when you stop supporting negative behavior, you encourage positive behavior....

  • Even though I'm not a Saints fan it's great to see them win a championship.

  • @gloverbj1979

Even if just one championship, that is enough for a lifetime.

  • thanks for backing the black and gold....

  • SAINTS WIN!!! oh and michael vick was playing with the falcons still haaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

  • @Squeek1227

is he still going to be an Eagle?

  • after this game I fully committed myself to the Saints, I watched it with my uncle who lived in NOLA along with my mom for a long time.

I've been a fan ever since, and I can safely say I will be a fan until the day I die....maybe one day I'll have season tickets just like my momma had

    GEAUX SAINTS!!!! <3

  • @peterprlt

continue the tradition. new orleans is a special place....

  • September 2007, I visited New Orleans to help out with the Katrina aftermath, the shit that those people went through man... No one deserves XLIV more than the SAINTS!

    p.s. GO PACK GO!

  • correction 2006!

  • @millerlite1323 - thanks for helping out the nola...i hope they win it all this year....the had a tough schedule...and now they have a tough opponent in manning....

  • defense this game is amazing, this game was all emotion. If you put any team against the Saints on that day there won't be any other team in history that will play with more emotion and heart.

  • yes. historically, these teams are always in a shootout. defense was good for the first half of the season....remember fred thomas?

  • what is the signifigance of this particular play? its not like this play was in overtime

  • a punt block is rare any given sunday....

  • dont be a dick

  • @tqdvorak - emotion is everything!

  • @tqdvorak

Are you retarded tqdvorak? Are you a human being? How can you watch this and not be moved?

  • I'm not from NOLA. I'm from Puerto Rico. But I studied there for four years and my friends and I love this city like no city other than our home town. I cried through katrina and watching this it all comes back. Thank you Saints!!!

  • new orleans east needs you!

  • I was born in New Orleans, but was unfortunately in Iraq when Katrina happened. Even worse, I was on duty at MCAS Cherry Point when this game went down. At least I was able to watch it on satellite!

In spite of all that, I have to say that this game is forever burned in my memory. A team on a mission, showing the world that my home town would go on to recover from that hurricane and come back stronger than ever! It puts a tear in my eye to relive that game in this YouTube clip.

    WHO DAT?!

  • yes, very emotional for those who are from new orleans...

you know what? it's more emotional knowing a member of our great nation's armed forces is backing the black and gold. geaux saints!

  • @LthrncknDshwshr Former member of the military. I've been out for approaching two years. I'm on the Westbank right now for the holidays. 14-0 tomorrow night against the cowgirls! Who dat?

  • did you know that game won an espy award for best comeback home game as in the best performance by a team to return home after disaster

  • didn't know that; thought the only award was for the "river city relay"

  • Still get a tear in my eye, people just don't understand.

  • @bmwtsu how do we not understand?

  • @pats4lifebb - please keep things in perspective. if hurricane earl hit your area as a category 3, you would understand.

  • @LthrncknDshwshr i have family that lives in new orleans so i would kind of know

  • @bmwtsu they really dont...i/we take so much pride n our city, our state, our Team!!!! WHO DAT!!!

  • sean payton is a genius

  • I remember watching this game. Sean Payton was skinnier then ;)

  • it was loud wasn't it?

  • i was there, goosebumps...
