  • I'm not from Pompano which is in Broward county. I'm from Miami but I know Pompano has always been a black neighboorhood and Blanche Ely has always been a black school. Do I think this band is the best nope however, when it comes to the size this band has over 200 band members. In closing I'd like to say in Florida bands especially in black neighboorhoods band has helped these kids. While they could be out doing other things to destroy their lifes band takes that away.

  • Their high step is killing me.

  • I agree with prettycookies12, for our flutes we put a pencil in the end of their flute, and if it falls out it's not parallel :)

  • @LightingWolfAirsoft Thing is some flute players horn angle aren't parallel to the ground and the pencil won't fall out. I'm always getting yelled at by my band director for having my flute point upwards.

  • there's nuthin better den a high steppin marching band!

  • the flute player was holding her flute really low....

#1 marching band flute rule is : HOLD YOUR FLUTE PARALLEL TO THE GROUND!

  • this "show" style is not at all hard.

  • the first step to success is in percussion iiiiis..... get rid of the high step -.-

  • dat drummer goes to famu i saw him in the eamu vs tsu game he play snares

  • i thought that was jones high for a second but they said s.florida not central fl

  • dude check your left had man

  • Best band in Florida?! BULLSHIT!!!

  • AAAAAAHHHHHH waste of drums!!!!!!

  • what the heck with those colorguards?

they seem rather bitchy to me (sorry).

and before any of you protests, let me tell you that i was one too :|

it's just their moves are... silly, to say.

  • no drumline didnt destroy the perception. hollywood itself killed it....i do like the description of the video though

  • Band in general is awesome!

  • Here at my school we do corps style marching and shiz but its bands like this that made it possible. kudos to you.

  • i <3 marching band!! Marching band is a great thing to be involved in. i highly encourage anyone who wants to join band to do it. You will be surprised at what band can do for you if you put the effort in to being there.

  • I know what both is like and I talk to kids in show bands and there were some that have done both show and corps style and they say ' yeah, I miss my corps style band'. I've seen some really good show style bands that actually have chops and talent but the ones that just pick out a song that's on the radio and dance to it ...they suck. I dont care man..its the band director's fault but I could never dedicate hours of my life to something so easy.

  • I march my HS band and in a Drum and Bugle Corps. I will tell you that corps is more serious, and precise, and everyone knows what they are doing. High school band there are freshman that don't know how to march, or they can't read music that well, but it's fun and they go to football games and the halftime show etc.. So i have to say that both are great in their own way. Don't put down either :)

  • its not really me saying this its my brother

  • Their drum major has the strangest patterns.

  • 6 freakn basses lol

  • Corps style or show band, its all good, as long as the kids are benefiting. I march corps and I benefit greatly from it. These guys are benefiting from their show band style. Good for you Blanch Ely

  • Back at my school we already have a dance team so we don't have to do retarded dances with our instruments, we just play music and march drill....i know most people from show bands don't know what drill is ...probably dont know what playing music is either. Have fun with your nerdy version of a dance team...

  • @penguinseth dont judge or makes comments you know nothing about!

  • @penguinseth ur effin ignorant u no that....everyone else is saying no matter what style u march u can be equally good....and for ur info people enjoy show style more than core if anything core is lame and ive done both so im entited to my opinion ur the nerd if u ask me

  • @snare4lyfe08 Hey you. My comment was directed to the kid that said how in ohio there are only gay 'core' style bands. If you were in both you would know that its CORPS not CORE...they are different. And anyone that is really into corps stuff knows that. Look up the bluecoats or cavaliers drum and bugle corps and tell me they are lame. And then look up the best show style band and tell me they are anywhere near as good.

  • @penguinseth Don't you hate when people compare Professionals to College or even high school individuals, like comparing someone in the NFL to a college player, you expect a huge gap in ability. Now I know the ignorant portion of showstyle members have been getting on your nerves but don't be an even bigger asshole to make such ridiculous comparisons. DCI to college? Come on.

  • Back at my school we already have a dance team so we don't have to do retarded dances with our instruments, we just play music and march drill....i know most people from show bands don't know what drill is ...probably dont know what playing music is either. Have fun with your nerdy version of a dance team...

  • this is just my 2 cents, ever since the movie drumline came out i feel like it made show bands like this one the "face" of drumline..which personally i don't like because they don't concentrate on cleanliness and/or precision, besides the fact nick canon doesn't actually play once in the movie..like watch the big competition scene from drumline then watch phantom regiment 2008 finals and you'll see and hear the difference..and I'm also sick of being asked if i was a P1 or a P2..

  • Show bands are not better than core bands

  • @moore2hold how so?

    and its crops btw

  • @Gwyndion500 Because every Band is equal no matter if it's show or corps. every Band works hard and every band is entitled to recognition

  • @moore2hold core bands are not better than core...its all depends on what you look at or what the crowd looks at

  • @alika92 I believe you mean Show-Style Bands are not better than Core Bands, and Vice Versa, which is exactly what I'm saying. Every Band works hard and deserves all due recognition saying one Band is better than another is totally mean and wrong and is something I don't agree with

  • show bands= better then core

  • Hey,

Drumline the movie was made for entertainment but also gave people the want to join band. Band is defined very well in this video. Respectable drummer? Man there are millions of drummers like in Drumline the Movie. Which your saying respectable drummers hate 50% of the nations drummers. Not every school marches corp or has the same concept get perspective more than the one up your own ass.

I love the video , propz

  • Lol, send this band to Ohio and see if they're one of the top bands.

  • except, you see, in ohio all they have are gay core band children who play half ass music that no one knows. down in south florida, EVERYBODY likes the bands, cuz we play GOOD POPULAR music. no one likes you. get out of here.

  • @SPHSdrumline Clean tripplet diddle runs/actual Bb chords please :)

  • ? no gtfo ur drumline sucks

  • @SPHSdrumline

Hey i live in Ohio and play corps style music and take no offense to this because there are also show style bands in Ohio. Look up the Bluecoats or the Cavaliers and tell me that corps style is gay. I think air humping is gay but that's just what i think...and what people that actually play music think.

  • @penguinseth kid all those bands play songs that are normally played in like concert band and shit. there is NO beat. airhumping? lol srry that ACTUALL marching looks funny to you. idk what bands your in or watching, but they arnt MARCHING bands. all i can say is take a show style, and a crop/ core or whatever you want (there all the same to me), and put a crowd between the two. see where they go. and guess what, a show style band was named AMERICAS band, so umm..... FUCK OFF

  • @SPHSdrumline Crop style? Is that like farming? Sorry man I just think learning about music is more important than dancing. What showstyle band is AMERICAS band and who named them that? Before you waste your time replying ...just don't ...cause I don't care I'm not in band anymore I'm just trying out for drum corps...have fun though if showstyle is your only option then do it.

  • @penguinseth crop band....way to go, you pointed out my mistake. FAMU has been called americas band by pretty much every news station that covered a story on them. when was the last time a news station covered your fav band? their called america's band because thats how the world saw them as, a little piece of OUR heritage. yea thats right, they travel the world because they get invited. dont even ask where they have been.

  • wait... didnt the drumline movie make EVERYONE want to play drums?

it kinda seemed like the point of the movie

  • That movie was horrible and every respectable drummer hates it.

  • The whole point of the video is to prove that band is important!!! not Drumline the movie!! 3:20 out here in Hawaii we're losing a lot of music programs. So if your putting down this video think about if drum corp never existed. Alot of those famous musician wouldn't have anything to do. I

  • guys chill, i know this isnt world class drum corp marching or high school corp marching and i agree with"tartanmusician" drumline was a horrible band movie but still the point of this video was to tell a story of how band changed people not about how good they are.

  • drumline the movie was retarded

  • @dailey fuck u buddy drumline was great

  • yea by far. Drumline was not the best window to peer through to look at marching bands, or non HBCUs at least

  • "i watched the movie drumline, and it made me want to play drums."

"Drumline" destroyed the perception marching bands...

  • Drumline wasn't a Marching Band movie, it was a "This is what happens when you give a pep band a football field" movie...

  • agreed.

  • @timbohoagie no the movie "Drumline" destroyed the perception of "Black Marching Bands"

  • @timbohoagie Yeah, Actually "Drumline" made me want to explore drumline more. Then I got hooked on DCI stuff (which is way better). But I actually hate that movie now.

  • thankx Mr.B you truly are the reason im in such a good possession in life ...thankx gooo tigers

  • why is half the band in jeans and sweaters in florida. and not one person is even sweating it mus not be that intense.

  • THiS IS REAL!!!!!!! LOVED IT!!!!!!!!

  • I like this vid but Its a show band not a Marching Band.

  • thats good that you get inspired to do drums or join marching band..but DRUMLINE the movie should not be the inspiration

  • Yeah no kidding. They need to make a movie based off of DCI.

  • i bet that shit would boring

  • That's what got me to join marching band. My 8th grade band teacher showed us a video of some DCI bands and i was like OMG!!!!!!

  • I agree with that kid about the band performances.

I get upset when drum practice gets cancelled.

  • its good that the kid got inspired to join band, but the movie drumline ruined the "image" of drumlines all over the world, now almost all of the people who do not play drums expect us to swing our sticks around everywhere and hump our drums like retards :l

  • Amen brother.

  • if you joined the drumline cause you saw the movie then your joining for the wrong reasons lol

  • why do you say that?

  • cause that movie was fake!!!

  • so? i enjoyed it. even as a corps drummer i enjoyed it.

  • ugh

    i hate that style.

  • 1:08

    FUCKKKKKK

  • showstyle iz borein as hell to me look @ my drumline: metro drumline M.D.I

  • one of the best bands in broward?? well our majorettes or wut some ppl call colorguard are #1 in the COUNTRY! we do have one of the best band directors in south florida. shes like a prodigy. we might not be one of the best. although i think we are cuz we've gotten straight superior ratings in competitons 4 the past 22 yrs including this yr. :) WELLINGTON HIGH SCHOOL ROCKS! (from palm beach county)

  • uh, flannagan's got you guys beat. world champions. and their in broward... yea... lol.

  • Cause our teacher doesn't want to take us to those competitions because of funding & stuff. I dream of going to competitions like that. Although I don't want a budget of $1000. Flannagans good cause they use props, practice everyday & stuff. But we only practice tuesdays & thursdays. And we're pretty good even though we only pracatice twice a week.

  • no lie, BAND IS MY LIFE! i almost didn't do marching band & i'm glad my friend convinced me 2 do it. idk where i would be without it. music & band is my life! band ppl are the best. they're not geeks. they're are everything thats good in life. and when u go out onto that field its like heaven. ppl need 2 change their perspective on band ppl. their just jealous we have talent & they dont. i wanna be drum major so BAD my senior year!!!! can i get any advice from previous or current drum majors??

  • marching band really is my life. i have other things to do but band always comes first in my mind. i dont know where i would be without it

  • ummm im jus sayin if watching the movie "Drumline" influenced you to play the drums...thats never good..

  • i feel the love, man..marching band is a way of life for me and people can't see that..they hatin on the uniforms and the shakos(hats) but they don't what they missin.......it takes PRIDE to wear ur uniform.....ur colors are a symbol of u and ur school...be proud to where it cuz its only gonna last 4 years or less

  • As a former band member and a teacher, I have seen how the marcing band has made a positive impact to our inner city kids. Many of my friends would not have gone to school if it wasn't for the music program and they are now world renowed musicians and band directors. Keep it up!

  • them cymbal players need pads or golves

  • wait a minute we had pads and gloves we dnt put them on during practice only performances

  • lol @ this video..... i hate "showstyle" bands.

  • Beginning reminds me of 2001: A Space Odyssey.

I love Also Sprach Zarathustra (sp?)

  • very well done a fantastic video

i hope more people watch and enjoy

oh and my slideshows as well from accross the pond

  • drumline was a dumbbooty movie and u should be in band for the luv of music...but he was cute tho.

  • haha at 2:13 theres a guy playing picolo!

    that's freaking awesome!!!

  • This is Awful...... And A Great Example Of Why Nick Cannon Gave Dci, and true marching band's bad names.......

  • You couldn't be further from the truth. Listen to the commentary. Regardless of what you may think about the quality, they're doing this for all the right reasons. It's a shame you can't see that.

  • ok... white people can play to u know :P

  • no one said you couldnt.

  • HUBBA BECK!!!

  • I could cry wathing this video. Band change my live in high school. But try going through school your whole live strugging with a learing dissability. You doing your best to get that c- or c+. After high school you force to go to some BS community college far away from band. But im trying. watching my college years for by. I just want to go home and Im doing my best but its not good enough.

  • i want to see drumline so bad even though i'm a horn player

  • This is a good video for high school band students!

  • Please explain to me the point of blaring with no musicality? And also the point of a big 10 step. other than messing with your hips and putting feet through the horn I don't see a point.

  • Amen.

  • stange im not in a show band but still true

  • Good video, but half the people driving Mercedes Benz can't afford it and are lying to themselves...so I thought that was a poor example. Celebrities are, in general, poor role models as well.

Band did a lot for me, taught me the principal of delayed gratification, where you sacrifice today's comfort for later reward. Most kids have no where to learn this principal today besides sports and marching band.

  • It's called financial aid and getting a job. I work two jobs so I can march.

  • Maybe a top show band in broward, but those cats (no pun intended) got nothing on us DCI style bands.

  • THANK YOU!

  • DCI is not the end all and be all of everything. Some of you DCI folks get on my last nerve. To be able to take a bunch of kids who have only been playing their horns for a few years and turn that into a band, where they can have fun and learn some life lessons, takes a lot of talent, patience and hard work. It isn't always about trophies and acclaim. Some people do things because they love to do it and because it can help others. GEEZ!

  • I made a division one corps after playing Mello for only two years. I've only been in band for six years.

  • And your point?

  • man southern bands are exactly like drum line

  • no they're not, alot are corps style, the show style are generally few a far between.

  • High stepping bands have no concept of tone quality. Plain and simple.

  • ah but you're wrong, they play like that to grab attention and to entertain. I'm from a corps style band and even i know that. . .

  • Yeah, I know. It grabs the wrong type of attention from people like me though. I march Drum Corps. But still. I don't like it. At all.

  • How in the world could you march drum corps and NOT LIKE IT? It requires so much, the only thing that would drive me to do it is the desire TO do it.

You have some serious discipline to do drum corps and still not like it.

  • Uhm, I live for Drum and Bugle Corps and music.

But I could do without the tone quality High Stepping "Bands" use.

And the drumlines aren't even together. At least clean up the drumline because those are the idiots who talk so much trash about Corps style bands. We have a decent respect for High Stepping bands and give them what's due.

  • wow he was in 8th grade and watched drumline, makes me feel so old, that movie is still new to me, LOL great video

  • Good video, Good message, Alot of truth spoken, but not the best marching i've seen from a high school.

Other than that I like it!

  • Flawda Bands stand up, band kept me out of trouble

  • good video
