I have bought a couple PRS guitars. Sold all but my latest. I had a pre-factory Custom 24 with the short neck heel. Someone had screwed with the nut, it had worn down and needed shimmed. I opted to sell it. This was before they started the repair shop.. DOH! Anyone else out there have any issues with the stock pickups on their guitars?? The 'swiss army knife' concept is cool, lots of options it's just that none of them really sound 'great' to me. Best setup in the business though.
@tatsandteles I have owned five PRS (3Cust 22, 2 cus 24+1 Macarthy) and whilst I give them all top marks in weight and ergonomics I still have one main reservation. They get about 90% of the Les Paul sound (I compare with my VOS) but only about 50% of the Strat sound (compare with my Relic 65 Srtat). For me they are a hybrid and great for playing Santana type tones but nothing will replace the wolf or funk voice of a Strat. My PRS is my main stage guit but will never replace my VOS nor my Strat
@turockandar Check out 'PRS Custom 24 demo' by Mark Chapman. Apart from his inspirational playing he makes an interesting point that PRS now has its own recognizable tone and thus is no longer a mere imitation of a Strat or a Les Paul...I am still not convinced because PRS moulded together the shape of these two guitars and tried to get their tones..if you are a aunthentic and traditional rocker it probably won't work for you.Get 1 LP 1 Strat and then a PRS for high neck playability and weight.
@turockandar The 24's to me miss out on that great rhythym pickup tone that is right under where the last two frets are. The 22's are more to my liking. I did just pick up a new MiraX locally that a women sold for her ailing husband. Wow. Thick as a Singlecut(which I've owned, a real back breaker) but only weighs around 5+ lb's. That new wood they use is actually very toneful. It resonates beautifully even through that poly finish. I
@turockandar I have to agree. I just get to liking my PRS and get some workable tones going and then when I pick up my LP it's like, 'why did I bother'. Again, NO offense to PRS. You can play their guitars to death and they stay in tune like no other factory guitar. A great quality utility guitar.
@tatsandteles Yup we agree....all the new guitar manufacturers have new ideas on ergonomics and wiring and even get more beautiful woods but none of them can compete with the great classics; Strats and Les Pauls who incarnate the history of rock music. I also agree on the 24 frets they have less tone in the neck pick ups...sometimes it makes me mad that the PRS have such a thin sounding Strat imitation tone...why did I bother to drop 5,000 $?
@dewaldjohan depends on the epiphone ... i have an epiphone sg '62 (les paul era) V.O.S and it is better than my dads gibson traditional les paul ... if you take the time for a setup they are phenomenal guitars
@gitaarmike Hey man, they are just great! I got 2 of them: One custom half hollow in emerald green, and a soapbar II mahagony tobacco. Both from ebay, one at 700US, one for 600US, a real deal :-))
i don't think its a good idea that when someone playing guitar with another people adjusting the volume and pu switch....but he is the boss, never mind !!!
i don't think its a good idea that when someone playing guitar with another people adjusting the volume and pu switch....but he is the boss, never mind !!!
@southparklovrlol Yes. Most of them fall right inbetween Fender and Gibson, with thinner, lighter mahogany bodies, and split coil humbuckers. They're pretty neat modern guitars that are popular with guitar traditionalists who stick to vintage stuff.
I used to catch Mike with the Mary Ann Redmond Band every Thursday night back in the late 1990s. He was an incredible player back then and he's only gotten better.
@kartman74usa I bought one of those soapbar guitars that he says he loves. He just asked what styles i was into and stuff like that. Nothing too exciting but it was still cool.
NIce, but still it is anoying move the buttons, not to me... but imagine if iwas the player, i certlain would say: '' Dude, please, let me take care of it...''.
Is it True that Paul is searchingHigh , and Low for Old 1960 era Pepsi Cola Bottles? I hear he wants to fashion the bottoms of those bottles for his Thick Glasses. Ha ha, Only Kidding Paul, You make the Best Guitars in the World!! Period.
I was actually standing right there while this was happening. I have been a fan of PRS guitars for years, so I was really excited to watch this.
The really cool part is that this is the show that I bought my whale blue PRS custom 22 10 top at. I got to talk to Paul for a minute, and he autographed my guitar personally.
The tone he is getting is pretty amazing. I wish I could play that well.
Which amp is he using here? the Dalllas or the Original Sewell or both? I played the Dallas 50 and it was one of the nicest amps I have played. A sweet top end that I have not heard anywhere else.
He was using a modified Sewell 50 watt head. I examined the amp and took pictures at the show. It was powered up by two 6L6's and a master volume control, with the name "Jenna" across the control plate in marksalot. Sadly, it was one of the last Dallas built Sewell amplifiers before the allegiance with PRS.
It has to sound different. Its two different style's of wood. Same kind of wood just a different style. I trust the guys who have experience in selling guitars. The guy who owns the shop where I live said he feels that the Flame sounds better than the quilts. That's reason I asked the question. Cause I dont know. And that guy is too far for a casual drive.
if you trust the guys who have experience in selling guitars and they told you the in their opinion flame sounds better then why would you post a comment on youtube asking? i personally think that they both look fantastic. but IMO i dont think the difference in sound would be too noticeable. So i personally think that quilt looks better so that is what i would go with. but because of looks. not because it makes it an unnoticable amount brighter
You do realize its not paint right? It can be a curly maple or a figured maple or a flamed maple or just quilted.. Some have a Koa top which Koa is a wood simililar to mahogany. PRS class their top's by number not letter's like AAA or AAAA flame maple top. Certain companys even make spalted maple tops. How this effects the sound I dont know. But its not painted on. And it will make a difference in the sound of the guitar. And everyone knows red cars go faster. LOL Just kidding.
sweet video dude. Im about to get my first prs, an awesome mccarty. I have a lonestar right now that is awesome but that sewell stack on the right looks awesome. how much do you think thatd run me?
PRS does an awesome Emerald Green.
