Wow! Amazing demo. I just picked up one of these on the bay for 75 bucks shipped. Now I can't wait ti see how it does with my Strat single coils and fully dimed Full Drive II. I once owned a boss ns-2. It never seemed to kill the worst of the retched pedal noise. This one seems to do quite well. No more embarrassing "buzzzzzzzz" or noise from the ODs at rehearsal . I also have a chorus that makes "clock" noise like the "Small Stone". It'll be nice to be rid of that as well.
my overdrive and dirt box make to much noise!! and i only have 4 pedals, planing on buy two more this year!! this would do the job? how does it affect feedback I mean when you want to make it.
i can tell you that the effect on it isnt bad. it just takes out the un-musical noise, hiss and so on. all your palm muting still sounds like palm muting, but here is the improvement:
if you play a song where you mute between chords (eg master of the puppets) its silent between the chords. id say nearly like your amp has turned itself off. i personaly put mine in the effect loop of my amp as it cleans up the whole signal chain.
so would you recommend placing this infront of your chain or at the end of it? if i use a hollow bodied guitar the problem i think i might have using a fuzz would be the feedback and crap. to anyone who can comment. where would you place this pedal on your chain?
@AnthonHarvey18 noise reduction pedals go at the end of the chain. there are no rules about pedal order, guidelines maybe but its generally down to experimentation and preference. but noise reduction will nearly alway be last.
So in summary i either have it in front, which does it's job but leaves a lot of husss coming out of the cab, or I effects loop it and eliminates all feedback but cuts my notes in half (along with gain) and doesn't noise gate the guitar. It's lose lose. Yes It's in the loop properly, and i'm using a power source with the pedal, works fine. If anyone knows a solution i'll gladly listen!
Finally got my 6505+. So I have a decimator too. First I tried it in front of the amp, not in effects loop. A lot of feedback at post 1, turned the decimator on, killed most of the feedback, and noise gated my guitar, but there's still some shhh in the backround coming through the cab. At .8-1 post it's about -42 dB which is still annoying for recording. So i tried effects loop, and it eliminated all feedback and hum, but kills my notes at any threshold, and doesn't noise gate my guitar.
@Borges1091 Sounds like you might be getting interference from something, i get the same problem if my Tv or just about anything else electrical is switched on is switched on, might be worth checking all your leads too, you might have a bad connection somewhere creating the Hum.
i wish to find a review where someone plays JUST ONE, TILL IT ENDS...JUST ONE NOTE. You can control the beginnings and mute chords & single notes, but the endings tell you more about the eficacy on supressing noises, not cutting the end so drastically. Have anyone tested this pedal this way?
I recently purchased an ISP decimator and while i'm waiting for my 6505 i decided to try it with my spider III for now..First day i tried it went fine, next day 1/2 of my gain is gone, notes sound dead and messed up, and messing with the threshold barely does anything. I'm using the stock battery it came with. It sounds like a power issue maybe? Or defected?
@Borges1091 Some pedals use up the battery even when the device is not being used. So check your battery. I'm not sure if it's the case with the Decimator, but it's worth a shot.
yeah a little bit i went to the music store and check this pedal out and it takes away some of the tone which can be annoying if your doing a solo and you want the note to last longer it kills in
if i put the phaser in the effects loop and the noise gate in front of the amp will the background phaser sweep be left intact? Or rather what can I do to keep the phaser sweep intact if i still want to use the noise gate
@behemoth666123 thats interesting, would this happen to be a ducking delay? Its as though if it were ducking you do the reverse of the norm since once the gate closes and the signal cuts, the delays would be pumped up. This could be a tongue twister :)
how do u get good sustain through this pedal? i have mine at about -35 db's but if i hit a chord or a single note they die out faster than they would without the pedal engaged?
does anyone know if MXR smart gate is a good noise reducer without cutting off the sustain and tone because now im down to 3 choices.
1. Boss NS-2
2. ISP decimator
3. MXR smart gate
please help i want something at a good price and stops the hissing and hum without screwing up my sustain and tone. plus which pedal stops the hissing and humming on high gain distortion. please reply. thanks.
O.K. I watched and listen to the post. Does the unit work? Can't tell from this review. I also can't tell if it altered your tone because your tone isn't so great. Did it mess with your tone?

GET THE ESP ECLIPSE! I just got an ESP Eclipse and it is by far the best guitar i have ever played in my life. and i have played all those guitars you listed, and many more. the eclipse comes standard with EMG pickups. so you wont need a noise reduction pedal anyway. trust me get the eclipse.
i got a question myself : When Iam using my overdrive with my guitar i will hit strings i want to play ,but while i hit the strings i want. to hit , the other strings start making noise in sympathy . i've tried string muting but i always just end up muting all the srings so...will buying something like this help me out or do i just need to Practise controlling my guitar better ? thanks in advance
in a way I didn't think it would've made a difference but it did. I put it in the effects loop and left it on all the time so AC power is a must. Not a 9v battery cuz that thing is gonna die after your gig no doubt. Just try out all possibilities. And remember having tons of gain can sacrifice tonal clarity.
sounds crazy man. Try playing around with the EQ and most especially the Gain knob on the pedal. Gain is a B***H because when you finally get the desired amount that you like you're gonna run into problems like hissing and such... Are you only running one pedal? (just the metal muff) Many things can affect this. Pedal noise, improper powering of the pedal, dirty power, ground loop probs, your pickups, many things.
what is your ISP set at? Anything pass 12 o clock is pretty suckish zone. I mean it's cool if you're just hard riffing and stuff but when you solo and get very dynamic with your picking.
can you give me a full description of your setup ( it'll help narrow down the problem). For E.G. Metal muff Gain at 3 o clock : Fender Strat : Peavey Valve King: blah blah blah
TO EVERYONE THINKING ABOUT GETTING THIS PEDAL! STOP THINK AND GET IT ALREADY! THE BEST OUT THERE TRUST ME. Here's a tip: Run it at the end of your chain or after the noisiest pedal. Try that out first. If you put it after a delay it may cut off the feedback time. Next try it in the FX loop. Worked better in the effects loop for me. I keep it on all the time.
Wouldn't you agree that this is probably one, if not, the best noise gates ever made. No effect on tone. Increased sustain. Cleans up tone. ISP DECIMATOR ALL THE WAY!
Yeah dude, you can totally run this through the effects loop. It will kill all the noise man!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Trust me. I've had one for years now. YOu can either run it in the effects loop or run it as a pedal. Try both ways if you have one, or when you get one. well worth it dude!
Very cool, so it's basically a Gate right? This would obviously go at the end of your chain I'm guessing. @RyanMcMusic If you've got florescent light it can fuck up the sound tremendously =)
Even bad wiring in the house will mess it up. Also, as I found out, my telecaster (2 single coil) picks up noise from my spinning harddrive.

@RNRDOLL not in all cases. For example I have my delay, booster and volume pedal after the noise gate.
