  • @The lady with "the headphone" in the audience....

Was there a better sound in your ears?

I doubt it. This a magnificent masterpiece,by brilliant musicians.

  • @FransKnowsBest could have been a hearing aid. magic ear or whatever they call it.

  • Sometimes music alone paints the best picture. There's every single emotion in this 3 minutes piece eventhough theres no words at all.

  • Someone play this at my funeral.

  • time to cry T_T

  • Such a shame this wan't released on the White Album.. it's wonderful!

  • ummm level solo singer Don MacLean think does it better

  • ¬¬ because not they sing? ¬¬

  • What a beautiful Melody. I don't know where Paul comes up with these beautiful melodies. What a beautiful gift.

  • Hauntingly beautiful. Gave me chills just now as well as the first time I heard it in the early 90's while living in Austin.

  • Happy Wedding day Paul.

  • this song makes me cry, is so blue.

  • One of my favorites. Funny, because I like Paul's singing very much. My vinyl version of "McCartney" is perhaps my oldest (and most scratched up) possession.

  • A true gem. One of his seemingly effortless tunes. Love the album.

  • I wonder if Whyyeseyec knows how wright he is.

Paul is a genius but I think he should not have commited some of his late songs !

He is so much better !

Thank you Whyyeseyec for this thought.

And thank you, Paul for all the joy you gave me all those years.

  • j'ai le calme, la nostalgie de ce morceau...

  • @Elbongoya ...not really...

  • You still Da Man, Paul!

  • paul mccartney is truley the best musician ever

  • I've wondered the same thing.

  • Love Paul FOREVER.<3

  • 1:56 wow is that Linda!!? :D :3 shes so Linda :D

  • And yes, Paul "Wix" Wickens (keyboards, etc) is his musical director. He brings Linda's lava lamps to each performance.

  • The loveliest junk :)

  • The guy on the keyboard is still with Paul nowadays.

  • Yes, I have always wonderd why he did not choose this song for touring. In general, i prefer his more intimite studio work to songs he wrote with touring in mind. I've recently learned to play this piece a little on guitar and enjoy looking under the hood of the music.

  • I wonder why he's never decided to play this on tour. It would sound great just like Blackbird, and I prefer this one over Here Today.

  • macca is our God

  • It was 20 years ago today...

this performance was. Long live Macca!

  • Hey Ringo9277...I think he knows exactly how good he is

  • @rodriguez63

do you not know how to respond to comments?

  • awesome comments people. paul is truly the best at what he does. this song is great. if i never knew where he came from i mean the beatles, i would still love this tune.

  • No sólo Mozart. Por el pasa Dylan Tomas, James Joice y toda la tradición de la poesía de habla inglesa...................

  • Theres only one duo that i think could write better than paul himself. I'm talking about Lennon/McCartney

  • I could listen to this song every day on repeat for a year and I would still, every single day, with every single listen, acknowledge, appreciate and bask in the talent that is Paul McCartney. He's so beyond, it's extraterrestrial.

  • hamish is a good guitar player, the only problem is that he is too ugly and should not be in the band

  • What is Macca saying at 0:19 ? Is it som old Liverpool accent ?

  • Beautifull, amazing, a piece of special music

  • @Festozo agreed bro.! its awesome indeeed

  • Genius does not refer exclusively to logical intelligence. Websters defines it as "extraordinary intellectual power especially as manifested in creative activity ". I think McCartney is a musical genius for sure.

  • The best love him to bits, I wish I could play guitar I would play it left handed too I thought that was the way u hold a guitar me dumbo lol I can only hold it that way so him and I would be the only ones that play left? Funny that.

  • McCartney has been the light at the end of the tunnel for billions around the world, and we're lucky to have lived during his time.

  • Three crazy party poopers thumbed him down. 'Gotta be nuts to! Paul is the best!!

  • Very very good....so beautiful!!

  • Linda received a lot of criticism from magazines and such because she only played "one-finger" instruments. Whatever, she never was a musician and we all know that it was the way she found to be side-by-side with her husband. I prefer when Paul sings by the way. The lyrics are beautiful and there's no reason to make it instrumental in my opinion. Also, I think the only people who can compare Paul to someone else are the ones who can play a guitar or something. If you just listen, shut up please.

  • @evilerg

Linda's playing a harmonium. I didn't notice it either but when the camera cuts to her I started hearing it, it's subtle but it really works.

I love the last little note Paul plays, the way he eyeballs it and seems to consider it, it's perfect.

  • ): esta canción me pone muy triste. Paul es un gran músico (:

  • I Love this song! But knowing the beatles ability to lift ideas from other tunes and make them their own I have always been convinced that Paul was at least a bit inspired by "My Favorite Things" when he wrote Junk.

  • When I think this beautiful piece of music existed before I was born - existed all my life and I never knew about it until this year - it just blows my mind.

  • I already loved this song 25 years ago and I still love it. I prefer when he sing , but anyway this instrumental version is a little master piece.

McCartney is a Genius for sure ! I know this since a while now.

Well I have to go ! Uncle Albert is calling ! see u soon

  • snorrrrrreee

  • blackboard!

  • Comment removed

  • Pure musical genius. No other words to describe him. This is just a perfect song.

  • Beautiful acustic version!!! Thank you so very much for this clip!!!!

  • I thought you meant the crowd was going to sing along... Still a good song.

  • i love this live,maybe my paul's best

  • He can be compared to the classical composers! This song is one of his classically influenced songs! But I think Paul has something on them even. He arranges in just about every style of music and makes it popular!!

  • @marguitar1 well he has written quite a few classical things as well.

  • @byemynameishi I know, he's even planning to do music for a ballet. Whatever anyone thinks of that type of music the fact that he can do all of this proves that he is a music genius! :)

  • @marguitar1 when is he planning to do that?? i'll have to check it out!

yes, he can do whatever he wants and it sounds great lol =]

  • @byemynameishi It appears that it hasn't been scheduled yet. I guess whenever he finds out more about the project and gets a chance to work on it. :)

  • @marguitar1 yeah, that would make sense. :P Thanks =]

  • One of my favorite melodies. I often catch myself humming it... It's like a backdrop of my life.

  • Me encanta, I love this unplugged

  • He is a genius, his talent can be only compared to Mozart´s. And besides he´s a great person. I adore him like no other artist.

  • @ringo9277 Compared to Mozart? Rubbish.

  • @Dodo251 Maybe you´re right. Mozart was not as good as him;-)

  • @ringo9277 Maybe you have absolutely no musical knowledge whatsoever.

  • @Dodo251 Might be an interesting hypthetical experiment to see how they stacked up if McCartney was alive in the same era as Mozart and on equal ground, of course.

  • @ZZJoCa That would be fair, but you have to take all the facts into consideration. I encourage you to do more research on Mozart, Bach or Beethoven and I assure you that, no matter how great a McCartney fan you are, once you gather enough knowledge, truth will become apparent. Now in his field, which is popular music, McCartney is the same as Mozart in classical terms, no doubt about that but when the two are compared, Mozart is by far a greater musician. Not a matter of taste, simple logic.

  • @Dodo251 Well I'll bow to you apparent expertise with classical composers, however, I don't see how you can compare performance and did Mozart sing?

    :)

  • @ZZJoCa We're not comparing singing abilities but creative and innovative aspects of composing music of any sort and when we take that into consideration, Mozart is simply a better musician than Paul McCartney. I don't want to sound all stuck up because Beatles' music is my favorite music but I'm perfectly aware of facts and reality. Like I said, you don't have to be the greatest Mozart fan to accept the simple fact that he was amongst the greatest music makers ever.

  • @Dodo251 You may be right; I don't have the expertize to carry the debate much further, but in terms of creativity, songwriting , chops and vocals, I think McCartney's the best - and John was my favorite Beatle so I'm not a sycophant.

  • @ZZJoCa When talking about popular music (pop, rock etc.) McCartney holds the throne along with Lennon, no doubt.

  • @Dodo251 Agreed

  • @Dodo251 Of course it´s impossible to compare a classical composer from the 18th century to modern songwriters of pop. But in respect of great melodies, which for me is the quintessence of music, nobody composed more earworms than Paul McCartney. Not even a genius like Mozart.

  • @ringo9277 Look, I don't care if it's 'earworm' or whatever you want to call it, you simply cannot compare a 5 chord song to a 4 movement, half hour symphony, concerto etc. You cannot compare a musical genius who's written 626 pieces from the age of four to the age of 35. Do you even know how much talent and musical knowledge you have to be in possession of just to write a couple of bars in any classical music form? I'm a great McCartney fan but talent-wise and music-wise, Mozart wins.

  • @Dodo251 So we have different concepts of music. Call me ignorant but I think that even best symphonys or operas, from Beethoven, Mozart or who else, are 90% redundant music with no creative ideas. A pop song otherwise has to be substantial for it has only 3 or 4 minutes to catch you. It´s harder to compose a good song than a classical piece. Of course there are people who were taught in school that classical music is highbrow and more valuable than pop. This is intelletual snobbism.

  • @ringo9277 I don't want to be offensive but for what you've just said I can say that without a doubt you are the greatest ignoramus ever. No creative ideas? It's harder to compose a song than a classical piece? Brother, you've got some serious perception issues, I suggest visiting a doctor because uttering such nonsense is simply outrageous and just proves the level of your musical knowledge which is seriously low.

  • @Dodo251 Some arguments would be better than just getting offending.

  • @ringo9277 If you want arguments, refer to any book about music in general.

  • @ringo9277 On the fact that he is a genius is probabely,,,,,to me also the most talented of the Beatles, but Mozart, Beethoven, Chopin, Haydn ecc....were unbelively enormus genius incomparables with Pop culture.

I know that because i was teaching guitar for seven years before going to the piano conservatory and discover the real composers.

But Beatles are still in my heart

  • @umbyronco85 Genius is Genius that's all I know ;)

If one day I'll find out Mozart is re-born as Paul Mccartney

and Beethoven as John Lennon that wouldn't surprise me. Beatles 4ever !

    Thx for sharing

  • @ringo9277 You're a dunce.

  • @ringo9277 I cannot dissagree, in fact I could not say it better. He is the soundtrack to the modern world.

I listened to band on the run album last night for the first time in 30 years and when I heard "Manumia" it was ajoy, just like meeting an old friend

  • @ringo9277 Tot. agree! Paul is and will always be great

  • 2 accords of the guitar and i already have goose bumps!!

  • This song is a beautiful piece of music It tells a story all by itself.. Nobody writes and plays like Paul. I can`t even imagine the musical genius locked up in that man`s head. I wonder if he realizes how good he is....

  • @whyyeseyec

from interviews with people whove worked with him...

    he knows

  • @whyyeseyec Yes he does :)

  • @ZZJoCa : Even Jeff Beck considers McCartney `The Man` and anyone who knows of Jeff Beck knows how discriminating he is about what is good or bad music...

  • @whyyeseyec I agree with both Jeff & you. btw, you got some interesting stuff on your channel. Got to find some time to check it all out.

  • @ZZJoCa: I grew up with most of that stuff........

  • @whyyeseyec Fortunately I did too. BTW, I sub'd ya; you got some nice stuff on your channel.

  • @whyyeseyec

    great comment

does he really aware of how great he is?

  • @ammar255 I think he is not a genious: all the otheres are just dumb, and Paul shows how the man actually should be.

  • @whyyeseyec Just Wait For me Ok? ;)

  • @whyyeseyec He does. It is well known that he has one of the biggest egos ever (if not the biggest one).

  • @menoziinrevoltado : When you are the most prolific songwriter of the 20th century you can afford to have a large ego....

  • @whyyeseyec I do agree with you. Don't forget John though.

  • @menoziinrevoltado : Yes, Lennon definitely had a big ego too. Lennon`s attitude towards McCartney pissed me off though. John and Paul`s childhood experiences were polar opposite from each other. Paul`s was much more family friendly and he was exposed to a wider variety of music. John used to refer to Paul`s ballads and `period` pieces as `granny shit music`. Songs like Honey Pie, Yesterday, Your Mother Should Know, etc. Paul never ragged on John like that....

  • @whyyeseyec He wasn't serious. John knew Paul got angry with comments like that and it wasn't until they were fighting that he said that. They had the same musical background so everything they adopted as a style was during the Beatles day, not from their childhood. On a side note, about the "family friendly" part, you should search for Ruth McCartney on Google. Click on the DailyMail page about "New Macca tapes"... serious accusations made by her (I think it's the 6th from top to bottom).

  • @whyyeseyec Don't be silly, of course he does.

  • @whyyeseyec yes it does tell a story.

  • The greatest musician in the whole universe. Other musician reatch to the knees, maybe its little bit high. They reatch to the toas!!

  • This tune is much better sounding then "Yesterday" ...no comparison. How can anyone not like this song? You only need to hear it once.

  • It's all good!

  • i've always LOVED this song. it's a great one to be done as an instrumental

  • Junk is a liverpool slang for a man's peiner and coin purse. This song is about Paul's junk,

  • um, but its an instrumental?

  • I don't think junk being slang for male genitals is limited to Liverpool, at least not lately. That's pretty common in North America too.

  • I have always found this song to have a lonely sound to it.

  • Melodically, instrumentally, and lyrically... I think JUNK is on the order of YESTERDAY. kirchfam - you're right on! This guy (Paul) is a master of wonderful sounds!

  • Although I am not crazy about the above version, I must say that this piece of music is an absolute gem; as stated above, on the same level as Yesterday, no doubt about it.

  • Beautiful. Paul's songs always have wonderful sounds.

  • this song should have been included in the white album (instead of revolution 9 for example XD)

  • You are so right.

  • I've always thaught that "RAM" is the major pop music masterpiece of the music history.

  • This is not from Ram, it's from McCartney album.

  • Junk

Motor Cars, Handle Bars,Bicycles for Two

    Broken Hearted Jubilee,Parachutes, Army Boots

    Sleeping Bags for Two,Sentimental Jamboree

Buy Buy,Says the Sign in the Shop Window

Why Why,Says the Junk in the Yard

Candlesticks, Building Bricks,Something Old and New

    Memories for You and Me

Buy Buy,Says the Sign in the Shop Window

Why Why,Says the Junk in the Yard

  • GREAT MAN GREATER TALENT UNREAL

  • This song is just gorgeous. I guess it would have fitted brilliantly in the White Album, which by the way is an splendidly beautiful album.

  • the white album is a strange album for me i love it but you can almost feel all the animosity and bitterness in with the pain and beauty it fights with itself from start to finish

  • yes thank you

    I always felt that way

  • he puts some words to it on the beatles anthology, its titled just "junk" i believe... motorcars, handlebars, bicycles for two... and so on.

  • It's on his first solo album from 1970, "McCartney". The instrumental version he calls "Singalong Junk".

The lyrics are literally about Junk.

"Buy! Buy! Says the sign in the shop window Why? Why? Says the junk in the yard."

It's about how poigniantly sentimental and also wasteful junk can be. Great song!

  • There's that lifelong nostril-rubbing tic of his again.

  • That's a big problem for you, eh marvy?

  • You bet.

  • Well, every time he touches his magic nostril, a genius song comes out.

  • nice!!!!!!!!

  • Christ I love this song, like little fish swimming up and down your back, brilliant

  • One of my all-time fav's! Thanks for posting!

  • E-S-P-E-C-T-A-C-U-L-A-R

  • Perfect!

  • Oh Paul, that smile of yours ♥

  • This is a really good song.

  • ABSOLUTELY BRILLIANT!

  • Nice to know that Paul isn't always about him singing all the time.

    A lovely instrumental version.

  • OMG..(crying) I haven't seen this in many years.. Thank you... Is this on DVD? It is so beautiful......

  • I actually named my son after the man to Paul's left. Hamish. I love this song.

  • Paul is great!!

  • Damn,, Paul is my favorite musician of all time. I think the best Beatle for the fact he carried on. Heard this on Jerry Maguire and I looked it up. very soothing!

  • I think the audience should have sang along. Hence the name, haha. Such a pretty song, my favorite version is the Beatles demo though. There's something deliciously drunken about it, haha.

  • ese es del año 1989

  • no, 1991

  • better than best..

  • great great great!!

  • I have to curse in admiration (is that real English???) but softly not to interfear,,

  • Lovely! Unless I choose to sing along with it ... so ... I didn't ...

  • so sad :(

  • One of Paul's best songs! Too bad he didn't sing it.

  • Amazing....Really cool

  • My all time favorite album......I never tire of this collection of McCartneys magical audio(and visual)magnificense

  • Robbie McIntosh is so kick-ass! I was afraid he'd fallen off the face of the Earth after this McCartney line-up disbanded. It's great seeing him working with John Mayer.

  • That's really my kind of junk...way to go Paul...absolutely beautiful.

  • So pleasant

  • Beautiful

  • Well that wasn't junk was it. 5 Stars

  • Junk.. some Junk ha.. man

Love you Paul.. call me :)

  • f-a-n-t-a-s-t-i-c-

  • Of course, this is one of the best tunes Paul dilivered in the hay-days of the sixties (the instr. & vocal version) but to all you musicians & music lovers please watch Linda for not only does she a great job (being in the original recoding my 'guess help me out Paul)she is also so inspirational for what's happening nowadays... Thanx for posting, Loved it...

  • I prefere this version more than the vocal.

  • whoa that was incredible.

  • An insane crush on Donny Osmond prevented me from hearing Paul's solo debut, released in 1970, until years later in high school.

Addiction was instant and life-long to Blackbird, That Would Be Something, Momma Miss America, Maybe I'm Amazed and Singalong Junk.

  • this is Paul's best song after Here Today..

it is so touching , u know...

  • I ♥ U PAUL!!!!!!!!!!

  • off his 1st solo album "McCartney"---so pretty & soothing

  • i noe dis from jerry mcquire

  • woooow i love this song and this version is beautiful, thanks.

  • Never seems long enough!
