@joedruo how can you be insulted by that? just because you don't like the style of music of Beyonce doesn't make her a bad artist. she is incredibly gifted, just like marling. i assume you say that you're insulted because beyonce is too 'mainstream' for you. i feel pity for people who reject the integrity of art when it's created for the 'mainstream' audience. even if you don't like the style of music, just respect it for what it is.

As for Beyonce i can appreciate she has a great voice, but would never buy or choose to listen to her music. That music isn't always synonymous with the arguably artless music that's generated specifically for profit, though often it can attributed to how well an artist is marketed by the record label or whoever. What I believe is that the integrity of art shouldn’t be judged on its popularity, and I think it’s a real shame if you decide your musical tastes based on this (what I understand from your Beyonce example)

Why do people have to do this Dylan reference? It is lazy and not even true. She sounds like a really great artist. BUt what that has to do with Dylan I don't know. Which Dylan? The great stuff he did in the late 90s/early 2000s? Like the gorgeous 'Not Dark Yet'? Because this sounds nothing like that? Or the weird 80s Dylan? Or is it electric Dylan? 70s Dylan? 60s Dylan? I normally listen to this type of music but decided recently to give normal, mainstream pop a try because I thought that some of these songs might have a mature connotation that would be deemed inappropriate for listening to with my teenage friends.XP I caught myself listening to Moves Like Jagger by Maroon 5 and have quickly realized that "pop" music has far worse meanings and lyrics than Laura could ever have. Additionally, she is able to show true meaning in her lyrics unlike any "pop."
