  • Hey, there could be some differences between both internet connection that can make different results. For examle, the TCP REQUEST in apple can be answered just before motorola and that doens means that one is worst than another one, and son on. Anyway, thanks for the explanation.

  • xoom is the worst browser on the world

    with his lag

  • Thats an iPad 1 you should test the web with the iPad 2 and iOS 5

  • @survivorevil yes honeycomb does have gpu acceleration :) and so will the next android mobile version ice cream sandwich 3.X no more lagging on android :)))))

  • Thanks very much for posting this. This is precisely what I wanted to see in deciding which to get. Well done.

  • im amazed how well the ipad performs with only 256 mb of ram

  • @survivorevil

    you sir are an idiot.

  • Comment removed

  • @kkjiikk ??? wtf i did to you dumb fuck

  • @survivorevil

calm down im only saying you think ram is everything.

  • @kkjiikk wow you are really dumb i dont know where my comment says that. I said it because everyone brags about superior hardware. the ipad with a clearly inferior hardware has almost the same web browsing experience than the xoom. If you are gonna say something at least write more than one sentence without insulting

  • @survivorevil

i dont understand where you got the idea of insulting, im an computer engineer and by looking at your first comment i thought you was just another kid im sorry if i insult you but the masses of kids on this site really annoys me.

  • it seems to be that honeycomb finally supports hardware acceleration? please can some one confirm this?

  • Got my iPad replacement (iPad 2) friday...there is a noticeable difference in page loading speed and caching ability...as expected, all the claims that the browsing speed on the iPad 2 would not be improved over the iPad 1 were COMPLETELY bogus.

  • "I do like the Xoom better. It is much, "snappier" and overall the pages just load quicker"

That's an interesting comment, since there are now OTHER vids on youtube between the iPad and xoom (not using 4 cherry-picked pages) that show some loading faster on the iPad 1 and some on the xoom...I saw how you totally discounted the page that stuttered badly on the xoom as you scrolled saying they were pretty much the same user experience...odd conclusion from a "neutral" reviewer...

  • The Mobileburn guys found the Xoom/Android setup to be good, but still undercooked...that UI is going to be an issue until it catches up with the hardware.

  • Great

  • @reemprive

Um . . . I'm confused. Xoom has a dual core and 1 GB ram - it should have been much faster than iPad 1, but was not.

  • @pipavoando Twice as many cores or four times as much RAM doesn't necessarily mean a device is going to be two to four times as fast. There are definitely improvements over the iPad with respect to rendering speed. In this test, RAM didn't have much to do in the overall rendering of either device being as though I wasn't multitasking with other apps or doing much of anything except loading up four pages.

  • @pipavoando

Dualcore doesn't do anything in browsing experience. In fact, the browser in the Xoom is designed like Google Chrome, the fastest browser on the market. Look it up, browsing test for Safari vs Chrome.

  • @pipavoando I think you mean processor.

  • @AngryCorgi so going to another tab that takes 2 press+slow animation is a better than tabbed browsing?

  • i had been looking for a browser comparison. thanks. This is one os the most important things that i look at on a tablet

  • could apple add a decent notifications system?

  • Which device do you prefer for web browsing? Thanks.

  • @Martins2012 I do like the Xoom better. It is much, "snappier" and overall the pages just load quicker. The tabbed browsing is better than the page system + animation that Apple has devised; however, I do feel that the iPad browser is a tiny bit more accurate when making link selections on the page... something I expect can be improved on the Xoom with a future software update.

  • @scottaboshia I played with the XOOM today at best buy store and I decided for the ipad. I tryed playing some youtube videos and the quality was horrible, I could not believe, plus I hate so bad when I press to play a video on the web browser and it opens the media player. It gets on my nerves just by remembering. The software needs some serious addition and updates.

  • @Martins2012 For web browsing get the Xoom, because the ipad doesn't support flash and suckfari is just slow and sucks.

  • Xoom looks like all android browsers...sketchy when you scroll and zoom...I still see the year old and vastly underpowered iPad 1 delivering a nicer user experience...when the 2x speed iPad 2 comes in a week, let's see this comparo again...lol

  • @AngryCorgi

Oooh, someone who believes a dualcore will multiply singlecore performance. Don't believe anything a salesperson(Jobs) says.

  • @reemprive

Oooh, someone getting caught up in semantics while ignoring the big picture: android is a patchy POS! It's like having a ferrari f40 engine in an '82 vw rabbit diesel body...sounds great, but its difficult to get past the ugly or the inability of the 155/80R13 front tires and pencil-thin half-shafts to put the power down.

  • @AngryCorgi

Honeycomb is a brand new OS, and even expert iOS lovers see Honeycomb is revolutionary compared to iOS. It clearly needs an update. Both Xoom and Honeycomb are state of the art. So your comparision is really bs.

  • @reemprive

Revolutionary? How?? Honeycomb is yet another build on the android core with a bunch of tablet-based UI enhancements, not a totally new OS...are you saying its revolutionary because android FINALLY put some UI features together that make sense on a tablet instead of letting tablets launch with phone-centric android builds?? Please...I'll leave you with a quote from AllThingsD's iPad2 review: "It never crashed in my tests, unlike every Android tablet I've tested."

  • Good test, but now we need ipad2 vs xoom.

  • @mtj1111 ipad 2 comes out march 11

  • Thanks so much for this detailed comparison? I'd say most people use their tablets for web browsing so this is a huge factor for me when deciding which to get. I didn't think the xoom's zoom and scroll animations would be smooth at all but it seems pretty good, even compared to the iPad.

  • @mrkemsley You're welcome!

  • cheers for this comparison, browser on the galaxy tab is so dissapointing (even using dolphin, firefox etc and with flash disabled) Can safely say I'll be trading in the tab on a xoom.

  • Thanks man this was a great!!
