I watch a lot of sailing vids here, I've seen all of yours. This one, I think, has been the best at showing what it's really like. The preparation to get going after a night hove-to, and the preparation to spend another night the same... the tiredness due to lack of sleep, the difficulty preparing food on a lumpy sea. Most peoples vids show the best moments, or are very short clips of the worst, some are plain boring, but this one, so far from land, hits with cold reality. Makes me think twice.
I love your videos. What do you think the sea state is here? 5 to 6 wind waves with 8 ft. swells? (im totally guessing, but really curious). Also you haven't mentioned any sea sickness, is the dramimine working? regardless, i love it. Can't wait to find out what drove you into Eureka.
@boozelele The camera just doesn't do justice to the size of the waves but your guess is pretty close. Our log records 12 foot seas but that was earlier in the day. I haven't been seasick since leaving Neah Bay on Bonine. I decided that me trying to tough it out was just not fair to Laura. From now on I'll take my medicine like a good soldier.
@Localmode It depends a lot on conditions. During the peak of the gale off Cape Flattery, we were making leeway at 4kts! During that storm we were hove to for three days and were blown north a hundred miles. On another occasion, off Vancouver Island in mild conditions, we recorded a half mile drift in ten hours.
