@stephsoccer37 Because Izzie was at that point where no-one thought she'd make it through, and Mer/Der thought it would be a nice way for Alex and Izzie to be together if Izzie did die :(
And, of course, because Shonda had to give us a Post-it Mer/Der wedding that was o much cuter and so much more Mer!
