I have the hondo version and it sounds great for slide! I love the way this dude plays and i really coudnt touch his skills, I have seen lately the chiquitas going for big money on Ebay, i bought mine for 300 and i think it was a steal. i use it all the time live and allways get guys comming up to the stage to see what i am playing!
I love the part at 2:19 when the audience members comes to the front of the stage to see the little guitar that's producing all those wonderful sounds in the hands of a great guitarist.
Vlad, (part 2), With the Hondo model the 6 saddles help keep it in tune and this is a major deal with the short scale. I tune the guitar to open "E" but up to the pitch of "G" because of the scale. This makes the strings have the correct tension.
Vlad, The guitar is the 'cheapo" Chiquita made by Hondo. Billy Gibbons of ZZTop designed these with Austin guitar builder Tom Erlwine. They were pricey, around $500. new, so they licensed out to Hondo to do the budget version.
The Erlwine model has fretboard binding and a combination tailpiece like a LP Jr. The Hondo version has a n unbound fingerboard and a hardtail strat style 6 saddle top mounted bridge. I like this one better as I plat strats so the bridge feels more familiar.
