  • Why are public schools exempt from investigation? Have you ever heard of the University of Illinois? When they finally were investigated a whole network of corruption was found. People are people no matter who they work for. The public sector is just as greedy and corrupt as the private sector. Why do you think lobbyists exist?

  • You can't solve a problem without first understanding the cause of it. Giving government grants does not address the root cause of the problem. If we pursue that solution prices will continue to rise. You won't have to pay for it directly, but nothing is free. You will ultimately pay for it through taxes and lower quality. Your heart is in the right place but you have to think it through all the way. The sad truth is that the government does not have a magic wand.

  • Scholarships arnt based on income. they are based on education achievements. Loans and grants are based on income.

  • I never understand the "Non Profit" thing. looking around, it seems like the "Non Profit" people are the only people making money. Like Hospitals. Doctors and nurses making a hundreds of thousands dollars ,and proffesors, and Deans making the same, when small business owners are robbing peter to pay paul and paying taxes to feed into school loans, and medical assistance. I dont think that any establishment that can afford to pay out millions in payroll is "Non Profit" .

  • Teachers are treated as the whipping boys by politicians. They only get nice soundbites about how "valuable" they are so the politicians can get re-elected.

  • It's expensive because it's treated as a business (and not as a necessary part of society).

Universities have megamillion dollar endowment funds invested in hedge funds and other areas. Teaching staff are expected to take cuts while administrators get raises and bonuses. Head and assistant college football coaches get million dollar salaries. Have you ever met a multimillionaire univ. professor? I haven't.

  • Everyone should listen to this from the 4:45 mark on.

Thom Hartmann knows this better then anyone.

Thom should run for President. We need him.

Then again, he wouldn't stand a chance of winning. Oh well.

  • (Commenting as I watch, and listen). So, who is this guy? It would be nice to let folks know. There is no identifying information. At about 5:10 he lets us know he wrote a book titled Screwed. Oh, this is Thom Hartmann. His Wikipedia entry has less than 500 edits. Extremely minor celebrities require more identifying information in the title or summary. I be checking out his book, though. Thanks for the video.
