  • fantastic. Great form as well. Knees have to go forward with the closer stance. Deep squats. Most people can't do 20 reps deep with 135. Fantastic stuff man.

  • Holy crap dude! Can you please stop making me feel so week. Thank you

  • great man....you're awesome!!! i noticed knee drifting a lil bit...you can correct that easily :)

  • motherfucker is going deep. excellent job dude

  • really get some clamps dude

  • you're a hard man, great form

  • you should use clamps

    strong ass girl though

  • One wod for you man RESPECT I can only get 335 4 times but im a lil young lol

  • Nice Work! I bet your legs feel like jello after that....mine always do, with like half the weight!

  • Hey thats nice man. I wanna start getting my legs blown up, im a teen what should I do for them?

  • Watching your videos is both depressing and inspirational for me. Depressing realizing how far behind you I am. Inspirational to see what is possible.

  • How long have you been lifting? I've been on it for a year. My numbers aren't good since I've been cutting weigh half the time. I can squat 315x1 full squat.

  • man don't pay these haters any mind.

    335x20 is very impressive !!

  • Good set buddy!! You really love those high rep sets eh? You must love that burning, aching feeling you get in your muscles...gdm!!! Keep up the good work..by the way excellent form, slow, controlled, deep and powerful!

  • Very impressive.

  • This guys pretty awesome. He doesn't look very buff, but he'll probably smash anyone who threatens him.

  • @shortfatandcrass He's not exactly wearing clothes that would show off the physique that he likely has under the clothes.

  • great job

  • congrats dude. hard work pays off.

  • beast mode lol...more than i could do!

  • Randall Strossen from the book Super Squats would be proud of you! This exactly what he wrote about in his book. Love the home gym set up...definately reminds me of my favorite movies...Rocky 1,2,3,.........! Awesome workout my brother!

  • nice work

  • You are a BEAST.

  • Way to give 110%. Perfect form. I swear by these as the cornerstone of my training. Post more high-rep squat vids. Keep it up bro.

  • this video is deveiving. he used those 5lb training plates.

  • "deveiving"? Perhaps you meant "deceiving". I don't know, man--sure sounded like a bunch of 45's rattling to me.

  • Nice deep set. I just got 140kg x 20 reps yesterday. My mates didn't get the camera out. I was going to do 10 reps but felt good. I know that 405lbs for 20 is the new bench mark. Watch this space!!!

  • awesome work bro!!

  • MAXIMUM RESPECT to you mate, i'm a tall guy 6'4" and the best i can do at the mo is 245 for those reps, even the guys who i train with who are shorter are only getting 270-290....good effort...

  • gotta give you props man...im a freshman in highschool and ive been lifting for about 6 months now and im at 345 for squats on max. i might be able to get this for 2 this is crazy man

    P.S. your a bad ass

  • Holy shit man! That looks like pure torture how can you even fuck your wife/girlfriend after doing that?

  • You think a smelly guy with a welfare-state gym and roadkill for hair has any chance of getting action?

  • Haha yeah cuz you are also fairly jacked and clearly have a sense of humor.

But seriously, how do you manage to bang a brood after doing shit like this? The other day I did 200x20 and i couldnt hit the girl's g-spot that night cuz my legs were trashed. What do you reccomend?

  • HAHA!

  • What kind of roadkill ?

  • These comments are hilarious, everyone's got an opinion, yet no one has come forth with a video using the depth, stance and weight used in this video. I honestly would only be able to do 165 using your' technique. Never really attempted 20 like that.

What exactly do you do on this once every 2 weeks leg day? I like the idea, if i could work legs every two weeks and spend the rest of the time worrying about my calves it would be great.

oh and whats the song? i feel like i should know this.

  • Yeah, I enjoy all the expert advice I get on here.

A leg workout usually has one set like this and one or two with heavier weight and lower reps--after a thorough warm up, of course.

Calves are done only once every two weeks too, you know!

The song is "Jacob's Ladder" by Rush.

  • Great form and great effort. I've squatted 255 atf for 20 reps and it was hell. I know my form broke down around the 14th or 15th rep but I continued to 20. I never see anyone in my gym doing what you did. That was impressive.

  • Comment removed

  • Hey this is really impressive! High rep squatting is the toughest thing you can do, hitting 20 reps with 300 and over must take real strength of body and will!

  • how many kg's is this?

  • Thats impressive squatting (wish I were able) but can I just say that worzel would be right here. Letting the knees fold in like that while there under a significant amount of pressure is bad for them and is going to cause damage sooner or later

  • Maybe you could go ahead and agree with worzel in a video! Since we all know there is zero chance you will ever show yourselves squatting, the least you guys could do is get together and make a video of yourselves critiquing other people's form!

And you mean "they're" not "there" in your 2nd line. What a joy it is to be schooled by the marginally literate!

  • Hilarious! Pointing out spelling mistakes or grammatical errors does not indicate briangalls is wrong. Disparaging remarks do not obscure the obvious no matter how you try and to be honest is a very weak position to take!

  • You made no mistakes in your English this time--congratulations! For those who routinely miss implied meanings, my suggestion is that if a guy can't discern between "they're" and "there", or "ascent" and "accent", or "abductor" and "adductor", or "mute" and "moot", then what reason would I have to suspect he can distinguish fact from fiction or hearsay from evidence?

And yeah, I take a lot of weak positions--such as when I'm squashed under a squat bar at the point of failure.

  • So your knees dont collapse in on the ascent OR your arse doesnt rise up before your shoulders. Please correct me where I went wrong with critiquing your bad technique so I can determine or at least gain some insight into what I am missing considering spelling mistakes prohibit me from distinguishing between fact & fiction or hearsay from evidence? And yeah, u do take a lot of weak positions- such as when you are squashed under a squat bar with your dreadful technique & knees buckling inwards

  • This is youtube, where the only way you can prove the validity of your ideas is by posting a video of the results your ideas have begotten. Your performance in the gym is the embodiment of your training philosophy, so your refusal to provide video--and thereby open yourself up to the kind of criticism you so eagerly dish out--necessarily constitutes a deep insecurity about the real merit of your ideas. You are a fool and a coward, attempting to discredit what you cannot achieve.

  • Haha where does it say you have to post videos to validate comments you make on youtube?? The criticism that I provide is not based on IDEAS but FACT!

Man are your blind its right there in front of you! If you actually knew what you were talking about you would know this, but obviously not! Sacrificing good technique for high numbers and posting it for all to see is farcical and I am afraid that makes you the fool. Your palpable need for an ego stroking is vain, narcissistic & pathetic!

  • You've convinced me that my technique is unacceptable. I want to re-learn proper form, and make certain I'm doing it RIGHT from now on. Since I got it all wrong before by thinking and analyzing IDEAS for myself, this time I am going straight to the authoritative source for training FACT: YOU!

Please post a video of proper high-rep squat technique so I can try to get a clue. I only hope you will be as willing to provide this help that I am asking for as you were the criticism I did not solicit.

  • Form is good! Impressive. I don't know anyone that can do 'ass to grass' squats without the knees passing the toes. It is physically impossible. You can try them on the smith machine but you have to place your feet forward and can easily mess up your back

  • Nice work!

But watch out for the slight buckiling in your knees as you ascend. This is probably due to you pushing off the balls of your feet during the up phase, which corresponds to your beyond the toes knee postion in the hole. I know its ok to let your knees travel beyond your toes BUT as long as the weight is evenly distributed through the heel to forefoot and the spinal curvature is maintained

  • Thanks! But watch out for the lack of your own videos as you conjecture about my form!

  • So to have an opinion you must first post a video up before people will consider that opinion??? Mmm seems a bit redundant to me. This doesnt change the fact that your form is not up to scratch. I suggest you work on adductor & glute activation and you should see some improvement. X-band walk are a good starting point!

  • Look, the critical, dogmatic remarks are a dime a dozen, and as erroneous as they are plentiful. Any fool can regurgitate some dogmatic bullcrap as criticism in youtube comments. So far NOT ONE of these internet jockeys has posted video indicating that they have enough actual experience to know what the hell they are talking about. I've had zero squatting injuries in my lifting career of 17 years, while doing so many things "wrong".

  • I can understand your defensive attitude with respect to some of the remarks made on youtube. However, by posting a video of yourself on the Internet, you are going to invite criticism from all angles, be it positive or negative. Now my point still stands with respect to your knee tracking. The fact that you have never experienced an injury is great but in this instance

  • is a mute point, as far as to say injuries can be progressive in nature and build up over time. Factor in age, training intensity and technique this injury potential increases!

Regurgitating some dogmatic bullcrap I think not! I suggets Dr Stuart McGill is a good refrence guide to safe and effective squatting

  • I think you mean 'moot' point, not 'mute'. And if I saw any evidence that Dr. McGill had ever actually done a set of squats himself, instead of hawking gimmicky air bladder thingies on his website, I might not write him off as a quack. Believe me, I am receptive to criticism--just not from inexperienced fools and brainwashed cowards.

  • I have heard that going too far beyond parallel is bad for your knees, but you seem to be doing fine. Congrats.

  • Thanks. The "too low is bad for your knees" dogma is pure bullcrap. Football, soccer, and basketball are bad for your knees!

  • i can squat 335 but i doubt i could do 20 reps. nice form no matter what the haters say lol

  • Shit man,I weigh at least 100lbs more than you and my squats are no where near yours. Im lifetime drug free also and am not impressed when I see guys squating more than me that are "junkies". You squat rockbottom the way I do but I can only do 315 for 15. I thought I was strong. This will motivate me to do better. I cant breath to well after 10 reps because of my fat belly. You fucken rock.

  • Well, I ain't exactly breathing well up in the double-digit reps either! Thanks, and keep squatting.

  • That was great effort. I could feel the bar on my shoulders on those last reps. Congratulations...you've built a lot of strengh. BTW, I love the sound of those plates rattling. Kind of like napalm in the morning, you know? HA!

  • Good technique!

If I tried squating that amount I would fall flat on the floor. =D

  • I get tons of comments about my knees 'caving' and 'buckling' when I squat, and how wrong that is. It would be so nice if just one of these keyboard warriors would post a video of himself repping out with textbook perfect form. The proof is in the pudding, folks.

  • I have squatted 550 raw ass to grass in powerlifting. No belt, no knee cave. The fact is, if your knees are caving then you have serious imbalances and are doing things wrong. Go read some stuff by Fred Hatfield where he talks about knee cave being the worst thing you can do in squatting. It's really an imbalance and a technique issues. Correct it and you'll squat even more.

  • Wow, I almost believe you. A video would really help your credibility here. Myself, I have squatted seventeen Volkswagens in international-federation-sanctioned super-elite ultrapowerliftingstrongman competition, but my girlfriend accidentally turned the camera off and I didn't get the video. So unfortunately I just posted this video of one of my lightest warm-up sets ever. But I guess this one doesn't count either becoause of my 'knee cave'.

Last time: YOU'RE A CHUMP UNTIL YOU POST A VIDEO.

  • great job! ignore the losers.

  • You are not receptive to criticism as evidenced by your responses. You can clearly see your knees collapsing inwards on the accent that is fact! Yet u still refrain from admitting this fault. You cover up this denial through insults, demonstrating obvious insecurities, couple this with ur need for approval from the Internet masses and u got 1 argumentative insecure person. If ur opinion of Dr McGill extends to him just selling gimmicky air bladder thingies u r sadly a very misinformed individual

  • To be 'corrected' or 'coached' or 'critiqued' by people providing no iota of evidence as to their credentials is inherently insulting--so my insults are in response to an insulting discourse which you initiated. I never denied my knee drifts in a bit (due to a hip injury not related to lifting)--I just don't buy the bull that this is some egregious no-no, guaranteeing injury. Tons of half-wits out there criticize me exactly as you have; none--NONE!--of them ever provides videos. I wonder why.

  • Since I possess the capacity for critical thought, and therefore the ability to figure things out for myself, I am incapable of falling under the spells of gurus. I am capable, however, of some tremendous squats. And posting the videos.

  • Cmon man posting videos or providing evidence of ones credentials is irrelevant to the main point. I pointed out an obvious flaw in your technique. To be insulted by someone pointing out this flaw and then offering an explanation as to why this might be happening is absurd! If you seek hero worship for your efforts and balk at any suggestion to the contrary you are most definitely in the wrong place!

  • Oh, and I read "Power: A Scientific Approach" several years back. What a bunch of overcomplicated gobbledygook nonsense. "Dr." Fred Hatfield is a roided-out charlatan, and no one with a lick of sense and a year of lifting experience could take him seriously. I just can't resist the fun of toying with the insecurities of jerks who can't resist the temptation of trying to prove themselves better than me without video proof! The entertainment is endless!

  • Why don't you ask Fred Hatfield what that knee cave does to your knees then? When the knees are also forced inward, leading to a constant strain on the medial collateral ligaments, excessive shear force on the meniscus, and improper patellar tracking, which in turn can lead to chondromalacia.

And that knee cave is really just a sign of a big times imbalance in your glute medius and basically, not knowing how to squat properly. But hey man, you're the guy that knows it all.

  • There it is! The accusation that I don't know how to squat 'properly' from someone who--surprise!--somehow possesses encyclopedic knowledge of champion squatters and proper form, but can't seem to muster any of his own videos on the subject. Look, put up or shut up. The serious squatters who check my channel are laughing at you.

  • So you believe if you walk into a room full of high level Oly lifters and powerlifters that you're knee cave is going to pass there as good squatting???? esp when you're doing it from the first rep? Yeah you don't know how to squat to maximize your leverages, or you have the weakest glute medius in the history of squatters. Pick your choice. Oh and my lifts are in powerlifting fed books. Not youtube. If you're being told over and over again that knee cave is bad, maybe uh it is?

  • I'm told about my bad form EXCLUSIVELY by yobs such as yourself who refuse to show themselves squatting. It's a simple statement: I will not take your criticism seriously unless you prove yourself qualified to dish it out IN VIDEO.

I believe if I walked into a room full of high-level Oly and powerlifters, I would be the only NATURAL BODYBUILDER in the room.

  • First off, great set in terms of gutting through it. That's a good weight for 20 reps.

But your knees are caving from the get go. Pretty much from the first rep. This is BAD! Pull back on the weight and try to push your knees out just a bit and push with your hips out of the hole. Also, that adductor machine (pushing the legs out) will help you as well.

  • I'm afraid that machine you are referring to would be an ABductor machine, not ADductor. However--as is obvious from my videos--I train at the best equipped, most hardcore gym in North America, and the proprietor/top trainer there laughed in my face when I inquired as to the location and effectiveness of said machines. So, I guess my knees will just have to keep "caving" that barbell right on up, just as they have been doing for the last decade and a half.

    But thanks for the advice.

  • which belt is that?

  • great set.. man that was impressive.

  • Very inspiring! Thanks for posting this :)

  • Incredible set, simply outstanding. Great weight, great concentration and mental focus.

As said, the only thing I would say work on is your knees are buckling in on most reps. Try to push your knees to the outside on the ascent. Probably get even stronger!!

  • awesome dude...what is your vertical leap????? you must be dunking with ease!

  • looks like your knees are coming in every rep when you're coming up. still nice lifting tho

  • Wow, that's the shit right there. Talk about some growth production, not to mention metabolism and heart rate getting jacked through the roof. Great set.

  • Once again, impresssive. Strong and smart dude regarding his training. I also hard and infrequently. Just not in me to hit the weights half ass. I hate weak days.

  • Thats how it should be done, old school 20 rep solid squats.Inspirational stuff bro!

  • That is impressive !! Great form and depth !! Today is actually leg day and because of your video I am ready for "DEATH BY SQUATS" !!

  • Tom Platz used to train his legs once every 2 weeks because he would literally work to the point where he was so sore, it took 2 weeks to recover.

    Excellent set!

  • Exactly! Thanks!

  • Seen this vid before? It's Platz squatting 500lbs for 23 reps. with Bill Kazamier spotting.

    watch?v=Y7ouQbZSheg

  • seriously impressive mate!

  • This is real leg training.

  • Fucking Animal.

  • Fucking awesome! How much do you weigh? I am about your height, at 180 lbs I have done 275x20...you don't look too much heavier than that in the video, if that...so...335x20??? That is just outstanding...the last 3 reps or so your maintenance of focus was incredible... plus going for the failure rep...I know that weight had to mashing you into the floor at the end. I concur about every 10-15 days...Once a week is too often once the weight gets past a certain point.

  • Good Job! I admire your hard work!

I was wondering how tall you are? And how many inches does the bar travel from your standing to squating?

  • I'm 5'8". I'm not sure as to how far the bar travels; all I can say is that I am fully bottomed out. That is, hams smashed up against calves.

  • 335 lb or kg?

  • Pounds!

  • that was sick bro!! can you walk the next day?? lol

  • great lift is there any reason why you are working out is it for sports

  • impressive.

but why do you only work your legs once every two weeks?

  • Because that is the optimal interval for gains, as determined by experience. Actually, anywhere between 10 and 15 days works well but I will actually be weaker if I take less than 8 days between leg workouts.

  • Amazing!

How often did you squat when you started? What point did you start going longer between squats? I've been training squats 3 times every 2 weeks for about 8 months now, but I'm still making solid progress.

How long have you been training?

  • My first 1.5 years of training, I hit legs twice a week with 4 sets squats, 4 sets leg press leg press, 4 sets hacks (as per Arnold's recommendations, of course!) I made some gains the first 6 months, but then my strength plateaued and did not budge for a whole year. In desperation, I cut my volume to 4 total sets instead of 12 and reduced my frequency to once a week. Suddenly I added 50lbs to my workout weight in just 10 weeks. Lesson: low frequency + high intensity = results.

  • As long as I'm making progress, I don't change anything. When I hit a plateau, I back off the frequency.

  • holy shit man, awesome ROM

  • thats how you do a fucking squat you leg press pussies

  • you said it man, great form!

  • Still going strong!

  • damn man, gj

  • Awesome, man. Simply awesome!!!
