True; we medical professionals do a poor job of giving the diagnosis that a child has special needs; I lecture across the country to train medical community on how to give diagnosis & support the family. What is worse, as seen in this video, is the sadness/anxiety/stress associated with Down syndrome. Our society fears DS because of the myths. Kids with DS are amazing, wonderful children! We must update perceptions on DS in society so that DS is celebrated, not feared!
What do you say after that? I know what you say. FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCK
It seems to me that these parents are somewhat misplacing their frustration here, The mother said that they "came for information." Well, that is exactly what they got. They were given a probable diagnosis, at least two options (giving birth or aborting), and they were given the card of a counselor to help. They are not victims of some anti-down-syndrome conspiracy here.
You are obviously coming from an uneducated view on the subject. My brother has down syndrome. He is and always will have a happier life than you and be more forgiving than you. He shows no hate and before I was his age I was taught what Hate is and how to go about it, obviously you did too. He is twelve and the most loving person I know. So honestly kid, if you really think that, have fun, just know that you don't really know what it's like until you have experienced it
OMG! My son was born 33 years ago with DS. Absolutely no support of any kind. The genetic counselor tried to trick me into signing papers to place him in an institution. She said, "he will never walk, talk, laugh, ride a bike and only be a burden! Imagine, you are a 20 year old parent, your baby has DS, and the medical persons are all treating your baby as a disease! Well, he is living in a private apartment, works 5 days a week, has friends, laughter. Apparently things are still crap

I have a nine month old daughter with downs syndrome and I can say that when I found out she had ds after birth was the hardest time in my life...I think that doctors do need some training on how to talk to parents when there is diagnosis like this..I found out alone after my daughter was born, still groggy. It was the worst day in my life but Brianna has changed me and my family, she has brought us all closer and we just love this lil girl so much..also she has been in great health since bith..
@chairmobile.Why would you say it costs a lot of money to have a child with DS...How would you know.? It didn't cost me anymore than it did my first child. My daughter has no medical issue's at all, heart etc.She is as healthy as any other child. I agree. It's up to each individual if they want to keep the baby or not, but I couldn't terminate. They test for DS at 16-18 wks and when you feel a baby move inside, then that's what I don't understand why mothers can terminate.

Yes, I was talking about aborting at 4 weeks. And yes, it's everyone's choice whether to abort or not, but for some mothers, DS babies come with a lot of stress factored in: can the support themselves, are they bullied, do they experience secondary health issues, etc., and for people who are stretched thin to simply make a living, those factors seriously tip the scale in favor of abortion.
@BrittXAinsley Musta been confused, but you don't really start feeling the baby kicking at 4 months now, do you? Do you know anyone with Down Syndrome? I do. I used to work at a restaurant with a woman with DS. She had the job because her brother was the owner. He loved her very much and we all took care of her. She wanted so badly to be independent and live like other adults, but she never could. She got on the wrong bus once and was missing for hours. She had physical ailments that could be painful. Her brother got in fights growing up defending her from bullies. I've seen it firsthand. So abort? Yes.
Yes, I know someone with ds. I'm guessing, if given the choice, you would rather have a daughter who grows up to be a tart drinking and smoking weed while pregnant, writing hot checks, bouncing up and down on every man that comes her way, and who's biggest accomplishment is breast implants, a clit ring, and a large collection of designer shoes in her closet - rather than have a child with down syndrome?

This is a really stupid question. How about neither. I don't have children and I'm not going to. However, if I did have a child, they would very likely not have any of those "problems". My husband and I are educated and came from good, happy families that taught us how do be decent people while allowing us to form our own thoughts and opinions. I have no problem with responsible use of pot, alcohol and safe sex, but I do have a problem with people overpopulating the world and thumping bibles.

You're right... there are worse things to grow up to be. Like a murderer, which is exactly what you're suggesting. So, I guess that I'd rather have a kid with DS than one like you. I'm also irritated that you pass judgement on lifestyle choices that don't hurt anyone, unlike breeding too much and bringing a DS child into the world. You make about as much sense as someone calling you a child pornographer for posting a video of some baby taking a bath
You know what you ignorant bitch! I had testing done and you know what? The result were negative and guess what..I had a beautiful baby girl who was born with DS. So don't rely on those tests either.
Thank god you don't have kids as you would probably be a lousy, selfish mother anyways.
Your parents were also lousy in your upbringing when you have such ignorant words against people with disabilities. I hope you die of a very long and painful death! Cause you deserve it! @ zoe1974
Why do you make generalizations like the fact that XxLuciferousxX will be a bad mother? You've never met her, and you can't assume that her values are flawed because she spoke her mind on youtube. I don't see what kind of evil words she said; it is every mother's choice to keep or abort a baby, and in a harsh financial situation, supporting a DS baby may be extremely hard. It might be easier for someone making more every year, but it costs a lot to have a DS baby, especially for the poor
I did not know that my daughter had Down Syndrome until she was born. I looked at her, she had two eyes, two ears, one mouth and nose, ten fingers and toes, so what's the problem? "She will learn at a slower pace than other children". Oh well. "She may never be able to live on her own". No problem, I will take care of her. "She needs surgery but it is routine". Now I was worried. The surgery went fine. She is nine now and very healthy and active. Trust me, she is a very special human being.
That doctor was ridiculous. It's not like the baby was born with some horrible painful disease! How is it "getting punched in the gut" to find out your kid won't have as high an IQ as someone else and will need some extra help? This just comes from living in a society where disabled people aren't valued.
As emo as this lady is, she's totally right that the doctor just acted like the only thing to do with a Down's fetus is abort it.
Why are the comments about decieding to have these precious children be rated as bad, u people are sick and obviously would have chosen to abort these babies. I feel bad for u people who are heartless, remember what comes around goes around. evil has many forms.People with down syndrome are the most loving people on this earth. EDUCATE YOURSELF!!!!!!
Having a child is one of the most selfish, self-centered things anyone can do.
She was stupid, she gambled, and lost.
Then--attention whore that she is--goes on TV (Kouric is perfect for this) and talks about how hard it is and was being her now.
Weeee weeee weeee. Cry for me.

EDUCATE YOURSELF!!!!!!

notice how terrible the doctor was in telling her about this. She contributed to the sense of worry and fear!

Excellent insight into how people feel when they are told they are going to have a baby born with Down Syndrome
