Thank you! That has got to be tough -- vibration, static, lack of 3d depth perception, lack of instrumentation for attitude, speed and altitude. Flying by the seat-of-the-pants. But sure looks like fun !
The range of the video system is about 1km. With a heli I'd stay safe and not exceed maybe 500m, as a heli doesn't really maintain its path as well as a plane, and a temporary loss of image could quickly get risky.
I wouldn't say so. Flying that way already requires a good experience flying the heli "normally" or at least quite a bit of experience with flying aircraft.
Lol my bad it just seems the majority of fpv'ers are in america and its only there they get miles and miles of open spaces nobody owns. Here all I can use are proper clubs and I doubt they will let me do fpv.
Another misconception... all the land in America is owned by someone. You need to get out more... screw the clubs if they wont let you do FPV. Find a park, or get to know a farmer..
You guys should think about having some part of the aircraft in the picture too! That way you will know which end is up and keep everything oriented! This is sooooo cool! Im buying an RC plane and doing this!
by investing more money (don't know how much it'll cost and where to buy) it would be possible to improve the FPV flight with a helicopter by overimpressing an artificial horizon to constantly check the roll and pitch changes.
Why add a few thousand $ to add an artificial horizon when you have the real one taking the entire screen? ;) Wouldn't want to clutter that nice view.
I got a first comment finally! Seriously, a great video. Can't think of anything that'd make it much better. Loved the use of PIP for 2 perspectives. Later.
Great choice of music ; )

hey kilrahvp amazing video !!!
i was wondering like what is the mid range that heli can fly with FPV and what would be the farthest distance that you could go with a FP too?
thank you

We do when the cam is mounted on pan/tilt assembly, but it's not needed if it's fixed. Horizon is enough, why clutter the view for nothing ;)
kilrahvp 4 years ago
Yeah I see what you are saying! For sure if you are panning! Where did you go for all your gear?

a HUD displaying airspeed and altitude would be nice for landing...
