  • - Am I in love with this female dragon?

  • This inspires me, cuz if this chick can make it in the music industry, I'm pretty sure anyone can.

  • oh hell yeah!! i've heard the Martin Gore version of this.. which i love... :) This is just as great!

  • Looooovvvce this version of thos song. Her voice is incredible. Its a travesty she isnt more well known. Favourited and liked

  • SHE did an amazing job!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • great cover

  • is this a man?

  • playing on KurtWeill...:)great version!

  • is she, is a "he"

  • BRAVO!

  • This version is most POWERFULL than Tuxedomoon's.

    :-)

  • hahahhahahahah! thats a freakin man ! ahahahahhahahahahaha

  • I almost bought that dress for prom. It wasn't till later that I discovered Amanda Palmer had it. Now I wish I had bought it! lol

  • I have that dress! I got it to use for a Doll costume for Halloween

  • They need to lower the voice volume!!! I dont think it was her fault.

  • At least she plays for sure, sings by heart and has a talented voice... isn't it way deeper than TUXEDOMOON?!?!

  • @saveriope uhm... No.

  • This was rough and biting.

I think the music and lyrics were written, and should be honored, as being soft and melancholy.

But I dig anyone who has the cojones to put themselves 'out there.'

  • gabs mal von Tuxedomoon...

  • Ok,in my opinion Amanda Palmer is like really talented, an excellent performer ansd show woman but the way she performed this song (personally speaking as always) was a big "No, Noooo!" You dont have to immitate the original version of course but it was more than whipping somebody or hiting him with a piano or yellin at him (while hitting him in the face with a piano). Then again maybe that was the point of singing it like that :-/ He really should have given her the words, i guess...

  • @naughtyauntieemma " He really should have given her the words, i guess..."

    You have a point, hahahahaha

  • @naughtyauntieemma- violation of a song, she sound agressive no doubt

  • hahahahahah i havent laughed this hard in a while. who is this dude? sounds Scandinavian

  • @RELISIX and looks at those guns

  • hahah she fucking butchered the song with her manly voice and crappy piano melody.

  • I like Amanda Palmer, but this doesn't really touch Nouvelle Vague's version or the original version.

  • are you guys idiots? you heard the very original live recording of this by tuxedo moon? its a fucking brilliant cover

  • ...that's a nice and very effective way to destroy a song... but Mr. belzondium comment is more clear and explain better...

  • bad D:

  • it also doesn't help that she doesn't sing in tune half the time.

  • This is *kind of* good. The problem is that it is WAY too over-emoted. Her over-the-top performance doesn't match the character of the lyrics at all. Winston's song is wistful and moody, NV preserved that and made it kinda pretty, but Palmer sings it like a declaration of war. That could be alright in other covers but not here. The effect is awkward and off-putting.

  • @belzondium

That is the beauty of doing a cover: interpretation. After all, Amanda is often "over-the-top." I do agree with your comparison though, as it points out the differences between the moods of the two.

  • That's why among other things I love Amandas music. She made it her song.

  • Fuck I love amanda!

  • Martin Gore's version is far and away the BEST!

  • One must also be mindful when comparing studio versions to live versions.

  • In the dedate on if this version of the Tuxedomoon song if better than the NV cover I think you are comparing apples & oranges NV sing Bassa Nova music so all of the songs they do sound Bassa Nova-ish. If you wanna talk abuot true merit this version is most likely the closest to the Tuxedomoon version due to the passion.

  • Amanda's voice is original, she didn't destroy the song. I think she's amazing. People are just not used to change. -_-

  • @Naessly are you serious this is horrible. there is a sense of true talent that has yo be taken into account

  • for those wondering how this is play... RH stands on c minor while the left hand walks down from C, to Bb, then Ab, then G7 chord (without the root in the right hand... bdf in the rh and g in the left) it's a 465...

    m.

  • : ) no!

  • Are you kidding? Do you not see the blue eyeshadow and the beautiful Palmer breasts?

  • plz plz plz the chords!

  • look up under tuxeedomoon.

  • best cover i've heard in a while!!!!

  • that's coz u hvn't heard the Nouvelle Vague cover yet

  • yes i have and i still thing this is better

  • the NV cover is a bit more gentle but their both amazing

  • At least spell it right, it'll make you seem smarter. ^^'

  • :O AHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!

  • whoo, what a voice!

  • Nja... Not the best of versions!

  • whatever.

  • by far my fave version of the song!Amanda for life!

  • more powerful than tuxedomoon (and definitely nouvelle vague), but then I'm missing the great melancholy that made tuxedmoon's song such a Jewel ...

  • such a great song, I had heard many versions, but this one's also pretty good.

  • very good cover version, strong voice and emotional, sincere performance.

  • beautiful song

  • this, my friend, is that amazing and talented amanda palmer

  • j'aime la musique, mais j'accroche pas sur sa voix ! dommage

  • I love how the two halves of your statement contradict each other so explicitly.

  • wow. get a life. afp is here to mf stay.

  • Thank you for posting this video. I love it.

    she makes it so authentic

  • a perfect example of how amanda takes a song and transforms it into something completely her own

  • and better than the original!

  • I've seen the Dolls a few years back before they got huge.... and after hearing this tune here I'm sort of glad they didn't do it back then. ouch. Did Amanda's voice frop like two octaves or something?? I'll stick with Nouvelle Vague's cover.

  • While I agree that Amanda's voice HAS gotten much lower since her first album, I love this song and thing her tone suits it perfectly. Its beauty astounds me each time I hear it. Each word seems so sincere, which I do not feel at all from Nouvelle Vague's version.

  • Amanda's voice dropped because she loves her cigarettes. all fans know that.

  • Wow - a bit rough at the start, but what a great performance! True to the original in its spare arrangement, while brave and contemporary in the delivery.

  • She knows what she plays. I love the version.

  • if You are feeling the same way as me... call me 882-437-920 Poland.

    Your`e awesome.

Such a talent shouldn`t be wasted.

    Love.

  • Good Job girl !

  • i like amanda's version even better than the original one... amanda's is much more powerful, probably not so smooth but nevertheless so full of life.

  • i love her dress to the core

  • i never heard the orginal....i think its is pretty good :]

  • And you're a jerk.

  • do you live under a fucking rock? that's Amanda Palmer.

  • The end is absolutely perfect!

  • :)

    i love it so much

    but then again

i love all of her work...

soooo...woot to another amazing amanda video.

    <3

  • охуеть!!!

  • Wow, so beautiful and fierce yet not loud at all, not very much, i mean. it is definitely POWERFUL. like hell. yesh.

  • SICK.

  • Something angry?

  • fucking amazing

  • this song is seriously FANTASTIC the lyrics are just fly .. it makes me feel like lovin looolz ohhhhhhhh give me the word!

  • That's cool

  • UNBELIEVABLE.

    She is so incredible.

My God I love her so much.

  • Why are there so many cruel comments on this video? Nobody's said this much about any of her other songs, and this isn't any worse then they are! Tut.

  • unbelievable cover.

  • does annyone know where a can find the piano tabs for that song ????

  • She seems to be playing this song as she plays her own, which means that she has her own way, and I think it's a good thing, even though this isn't my favourite version :P Check out Dresden Dolls instead! :D

  • Well in my opinion she is amazing and I look up to her as a performer. And I think this cover it incredible.

    xoxo

    s.

  • O my god.

And how rythmically consistent are you?

  • I dislike you quite a lot right now...

Amanda palmer will marry me some day.

  • And you must be an illiterate, ignorant kid who doesn't understand talent.

im not being mean or nutn but u has got to be hasnt u?

  • hmm...I could be mistaken but don't the words "it has got to be hasn't it?" imply that you would be shocked if she wasn't a man? Therefore i doubt you "thort" she looked like a woman.

And if I am sad replying to your comment (which was a question by the way, and normally people who ask questions what answers)Then what, may i ask, does that make you?

  • You know what, when i asked my question i didn't ask can i have some bitch answer me please? cos i really want that to make my life soo much better. But hey oh well some people are just like that. All i wanted to know is if she was really a man cos her voice is quite flat my friend does drag so i just wondered cos i think its good. not the singing but... oh well eh.

  • I can't even be bothered with this anymore...

  • Good Bye.

  • good bye

(sorry i just wanted to join in)

  • I keep on coming back to this video. I really like it!

  • Umm...sorry to say but she sounds like a man?

I <3 Nouvelle Vague's version, and the original by TuxedoMoon (did i spell it right?)does give the song's original context what it needs to bring out the eerie side.

  • I could only make it through the first 30 seconds...gawd...

  • It's hard to appreciate Amanda's voice through live recordings... unless you're either hearing it in person or listening to a studio recording, it's pretty harsh. Having seen her live several times helps, though; I do like her version of the song. It's completely different from the original, which I also love, but that just makes it better.

  • She can't sing. Seems almost like she tried imitating the original, but lost all the heartfelt intention. Also, she can't sing.

  • So not true. She changed the song completely. The original version to me is bland. Something about Amanda Palmer is that with every note you can hear the passion behind it. Which is something I didn't hear on the original song.

Hate this comment if you want.. I don't care.

  • When I said original I meant Tuxedomoon, which I guess you haven't heard. And honestly I don't think she has the voice to be an artist.

  • I don't care what you think. I know that's not true.

  • Sorry but when singers sing flat and sharp, even if she has "a voice" then it just detracts from the song & she's all over the place on this one. Sorry but she is. At least Nouvelle Vague's version works because the vocalist draws you in, she connects on a human level with what is a very human subject. But this version is metallic and lumpen, out of tune and contributes nothing to the subject matter. Robotic vocal out of tune deliveries do not make for good love songs.

  • What the hell are you talking about. If anything I find Nouvelle Vague's version sounds Metallic.

  • Chockfull if you seriously think Nouvelle Vagues version is metallic then you really don't understand music on any level. Amanda looks & sounds like a 16yr old at a b'day party who has her own way & insists on "entertaining" her guests whether they like it or not. Ask any vocalist to sing a song accompanied by 1 instrument is asking a lot because it leaves the vocal performance very exposed, and Amanda shouldn't be exposed to anyone but a vocal coach & she needs piano lessons too.

  • I understand what you are saying, but to me Amanda's version draws me in more, because of her vocals being flat and sharp, she doesn't have a perfect voice which makes it seem more human to me.

Where as i found Nouvelle Vague's version rather boring.

  • I totally agree with you! Nouvelle Vague made the song seem so boring, and to me, it wasn't as powerful and passionate. Though, I do love Tuxedo Moon's version, very, very much

  • This is awful, this girl killed a wonderful song ....

  • hmm

I like the dresden dolls.. and normally i like amanda's voice..

But in this performance its kind of.. annoying? :s

Nobody should try cover this song.. the original is the only good version.

  • WOW...different..

  • i love this so much!!!!!

  • I like this version so much more than the original

  • excelente!!!

  • i cant deny her powerful vocals, but it was unfair to this particular song to be performed this way.Nouvelle vague was much better

  • this interpretation is full of emotion/ in a good way ,i can hear it over and over again:) POZDROWIENIA from Poland
