  • The manual says, "when setting up the trem try and only use two springs". For a FoydR that isn't enough you should use at least three springs. It's NOT a spring replacement but a "TREMSETTER". I think it does this very well it 'Sets the trem'. Being able to play the low E or A string and then bend groups of notes like playing a Les Paul is unique. No matter how many springs you put on a FR without a TS the E or A will detune with note bends - period!

  • I happen to think the TREMSETTER is a great product.

...and yes, you can still dive bomb and wrench the Trem arm back as you normally would.

If you've used a Guitar Synth like a Roland with a 13 pin connector you know how a slight change in pitch can be a bad thing, the Tremsetter fixes that! I think a lot of players actually slowly go out of tune without even realizing it. The Tremsetter is a solution to many tuning issues...

    Like it!

  • You'll notice in the youtube that after changing out the middle spring the screws are tightened in further to compensate for the sag. This is an important step, to tune the guitar after replacing the spring claws with the Hipshot single claws and check that the whammy is in the correct position - Especially on a Floyd Rose Trem.

  • Some times it doesn't matter how well you do a set-up on a guitar, changes in temperature and even neck acclimatization can make staying in tune difficult. The Tremsetter does work well for keeping things in tune, however it does change the guitar feel somewhat. It makes the guitar feel more like a hard-tail bridge guitar, but most whammy techniques are still achievable. Although there's a slight sustain increase and chords are held better/longer and easier to control.

  • @WinyardProductions i agree with you... no matter how you set up the guitar to stay in tune, 5 springs may not be enough... even using locking trem system wont be enough...

though there may be effects when playing with tremsetter, but the chords are clearer and much easier to be played... great invention

  • @WinyardProductions thats my point... and thats why i agree on that... seems you're angry at it... what's wrong with yah?

im stressing out that using a tremsetter can replace locking tremolo system... as for my strat, there's no need for me to use a floyd or going for 5 springs to stay in tune... the manual rightfully says: you only need 2 springs and tremsetter to set it up properly..." and it did worked and i agree with you...

are you mad? didnt you read what i agreed with your comment?

  • @WinyardProductions dude, chill... calm down... im not opposing you, we're on the same page... i LIKED the tremsetter... that's why, if im going to play another vintage american standard strat, ill make sure to use the TREMSETTER wisely to play a strat much more fun and fuller tone than ever...

likei said, i agreed on that... so chill out dude...

  • @cjetelomar2010 Actually, just making a general comment on the install procedure for others to see and not make the mistake of less springs (according to the manual) when it comes to a FloydR setup. Wasn't aimed at anyone in particular...

General comment. Sorry if it seemed otherwise, not the intention.

  • @WinyardProductions Moved to my reply section...

  • @WinyardProductions its ok man... but next time, read the comment carefully... and besides, i was also looking for tremsetters however none of them are available in my music stores...

and we are thankful to mr. dave borisoff for inventing this... the tremsetter may be simple but EFFECTIVE tool for electric guitars...

  • Can I use it with my Guitar Hero guitar?

  • Dear Mr Borisoff, thank you so much for this. I have a 1989 strat which I bought new and when I had the frets redressed the guitar engineer removed the tremsetter saying it was better without. I had no idea and took his word for it. Luckily I kept all the parts and then I found them stored in a box. I read your instruction manual and when I saw your video I decided to reinstall myself. It's a beautiful piece of engineering which works so well and so glad my guitar is all original again.

  • could you show us how to do it on a floyd rose

  • I have a strat with a tremsetter and it seems to be calibrated correctly but works terribly. it does not stay in tune at all and when I bend for steel pedal effect the triad goes flat.

  • @ILIAD9 i think you did it wrong... when i set my tremsetter properly, it STAYED in tune with my strat... you should try it again...

to me,this video is helpful... i love this hipshot tremsetter... and i love my strat even more...

  • This is the first mod I am going to do on my Fender Strat. On my previous Strats, I always had tunning problems after using the tremolo and was never able to solve the problem effectivly. I tried roller nuts, locking tunners, lighter strings and even a product called "Nut juice" (lol) on the original Corian nut..Nothing ever worked. I"m hopefull thisTremsetter will solve the problem once and for all.

  • Video definitely necessary. Instructions with the product suk. Worse, they market the unit as requiring no moids, clearly that's not true given the three drill holes that need to be made.

  • I sold my floating trem guitar for the fact it kept dropping the pitch of other strings while bending, cant believe ive never heard of this yet why didn't anyone tell me about it? you should be ashamed of yourselves.

  • Awesome video thanks.

    Soder lol

  • With this installed can you do dive bobs without troubles?

  • This video is so helpful. I just changed string gauge on my Strat and it's been a couple of years since I had to set up a Tremstter. One viewing and it all came back to me. This is a fantastic invention.

  • The guy who owns EMG says it's safer to keep the string ground disconnected once you remove it.

  • @raidereddie only if you are using active pickups like EMG, if you are using passive pickups then you have to reconnect it otherwise you get a huge amount of ground hum, which is highly undesirable.

  • @0cscott Thanks

  • help plz!!! i use my whammy bar now my guitar is out of tune what should i do re string my guitar???? help plz

  • nice video about tremolo, actually a vibrato. you know it's a vibrato right?

  • will this alow me to divebomb ?

  • i have that same tuner its the shit =)

  • seems like a lot of work and modifications. they should make one that just reolaces one of the springs.

  • Good product, I'm glad that i've installed that in my guitars. However, it is rather scary to do the DRILL & measurement for a non technical guitarist.

  • This thing has got to be the best thing to happen to cheap guitars ever. I just installed the Trem Setter to my $450 jackson and it works great!. For the neigh sayers, you need to learn to follow instructions. Get all the tools mentioned in the video and follow the man's instructions carefully, step by step. I promise you will be pleased! Thank you David Barisoff for theTrem Setter and the how-to-instal video. I've given my little Jackson a new breath of life! (and saved $1400 for a new guitar:)

  • srry i misspelled you name :(

  • @sdcjimbob You should buy the $1,400 guitar anyway. Carvin makes the best $1,400 guitar on the market. It's American made also.

  • is that thing worth to by for using with stratocaster?

  • @retal06 heck no

  • no good. installed back my standard OFR and never goes out of tune. trick is to have the extra stiff springs and put antiseize greaseon the pivot knives. it does the job well better

  • Whats the point of putting that onto a FR? The flutter affect is one of the FR's unique features, why the heck do you want to get rid of it.

  • Everyone has that little Korg tuner and it friggin kicks ass!

  • @Mustang1204 Yes it does kick ass!

  • @Mustang1204 its only like 15 dollas. lol

  • I installed one of these in my ibanez and I don't recommend it at all on any floating trem. As mentioned before, the collar hits the bracket clamp and it will not come back correctly. I'm sure it'll work just fine on a strat as you can only use the whammy one direction. I removed the hipshot & installed the goldo backstop and it works perfectly.

  • Comment removed

  • they dont work,i got a goldo backstop,much better.

  • Well I installed one about a month ago, but lately its been going out a lot, if I pull on the FR it stays sharp always. So I took it off, rechecked the setting, put it on, still the same. I have removed it now after trying too many times to set it up right. The clamp that holds it in place also rubs on the collar, I had to modify it to stop that.

Anyways my FR feels so much better without it and stays in tune just as good so ...it was a waste of $35 IMO.

  • can that go on an ibanez edge pro bridge

  • It's been a few hours since my last post, been playing my guitar with lots of whammy....and wow, I love this thing! Have to admit I was skeptical that it would be any good with my LFR jackson with worn posts and knife edges but it is amazing now. Bending is just like my tele and the bar feels almost the same, l. I use my whammy quite al ot and was going to order a new OFR for it, saved me a lot of money, and honestly I would probably want one of these on a perfectly setup OFR too.

  • @macaxe Hey, can you pull up on the whammy with this thing installed to breaking point(without the hipshot getting in the way in any way?) thnx

  • You can pull it up but my brass collar was rubbing on the base clamp (hook) making it not go back (staying sharp). I pressed the hook flatter and it stopped rubbing but after a week or two mine started staying sharp after pulling up, I reinstalled it and set it up again, still not going back in tune, that's the main reason I took it off. After I took it off my FR felt great, it really does take away the subtle feeling of a true floating. The bending/tuning was just like a hardtail though.

  • Thanks, I installed it using the instructions included with the tremsetter, you should mention first on the package to visit youtube for instructions and save people some trouble. After seeing this it's setup great now, I think I'll like it.

  • I have the same tuner :)

  • Since I'm not really using my tremolo and have 11-49 strings on I solved the problem in quite a simple way. Jammed a piece of wood between the tremolo and the body. Works perfect if you ain't trying to play Jeff Beck stuff.

  • can someone translate it to spanish?

  • Es dificil traducir este video al espanol. Si compras el "Tremsetter te recomiendo que sea instalado por un profesional. My guitarra me costo 1700 dolares y pense que era mejor dejarlo a un profesional.

  • Thanks for posting the video. Very helpful with both installing a new tremsetter and adjusting one in an existing guitar. Two of my Strats have tremsetters and work flawlessly. Proper adjustment is key and this video will ensure you do it right.

  • Hi. Do you have a french translation ?

  • ok my problem is that i have an original floyd rose tremolo and it goes out of tune when i use it...

    will this fix it?

  • There is no reason why an Original Floyd Rose should go out of tune. I have a Charvel So Cal, my OFR was going out of tune all the time. I added 2 springs in the back, for a total of 5 springs and I changed strings from 9's to Ernie Ball 10's. It's super stable now... Also the Floyd Rose has to be parallel with the guitar...

You just need a proper set up, if you don't know what you are doing get a guitar tech to do it... Also the store that sold you the guitar should give you a free set up

  • well my problem is that i think it has somthing to do with the strings...

because it goes out of tune when i use it, but when i take off the locking nuts near the headstock it snaps right back into tune?!

im really considering taking it to a guitar center or sam ash and get it professionally set up and a hipshot tremsetter installed

  • I really don't see why you would need this, the whole point of a Floyd Rose was to eliminate the problems this thing fixes.

How much was your guitar ? Are you sure you have an OFR ? Does it say Floyd Rose on the side or does it say Licensed ? The cheaper licensed ones don't stay in tune very well.

Floyd Roses are great but there are so many things to worry about, spring tension, parallel position of bridge to body, intonation, bridge height, lubricating contact points of knife edges and posts

  • so stores like guitar center are supposed to give you a free set up when you buy a guitar from there?

  • Yes, the set up is included in the price, it might take them a week or 2 to do it, because the guitar tech only comes in once in a while, but you will get it done for free, otherwise it's like $50...

If you already bought the guitar, go back and say : Does a guitar come with a free set-up ? They will say yes. Just reply: Well, then you owe me a set up....

  • The elimination of the trem flutter might be considered a disadvantage by some people. I've heard it said that the 'trem flutter' affects the tone, and is a component in the classic Strat tone.

Not sure if it's true, but a lot of people set store on facts like that, true or not.

  • I have one on my Strat and it works great,.if yours doesn't then you don't have it installed correctly, and that's it.

  • There's one thing I don't understand. Around the 4 minute mark he claims that tuning the guitar with the 2 springs and the indivudual claws would bring the bridge to its original position. But this is simply not true, becasue the original claw had 3 springs attached, whereas he only had 2 springs attached (that's before installing the tremsetter). Someone explain that to me!

  • he could have adjusted the string tension. i can balance a set of 10s with only 2 springs

  • Comment removed

  • this is really biased. in the one where the trem is used with it installed, before the trem was used he used the low e. after the use of the tremolo, it sounded like he used the high e or a harmonic.

  • What David refers to is the action of the vibrato mechanism (it's not technically a "tremolo") when a string in bent. The "flutter" incorporated by guitarists for effect is striking the arm to cause the effect. Not quite the same.

Many guitarists with "tremolos" who use a lot of bends either have a TremSetter or heavier springs. Otherwise, the other strings would fall flat.

  • First of all, the Tremsetter works great. Amazing that Floyd Rose couldn't come up with such a rather simple system and make it a standard feature (but then, like other manufacturers, he called his vibrato a "tremolo").

Secondly, I see no negative aspect to my Floyd; yes, I still have full motion, pull up and divebomb. I can still "flutter" if I want.

BIG benefit is I can bend without lowering pitch of other strings.

Last, if this is "too complicated," how did you ever learn to play guitar?

  • What do you mean you can still "flutter"?

Is it like those fluttering sounds that Steve Vai makes? I cant explain what he does to make that "fluttering" sound. But im trying to decied if I should install this Tremsetter because I still want to "flutter" the trem.

  • can i tune to drop d from standard e with it installed?

  • check out the tremol-no. It's great for drop tuning

  • i can't buy online so im trying to find something i can get fast. i never seen the tremolno in person

  • i got one of these for my american strat deluxe. it helped a little but not 100%. but it is better

  • can i use a D-tuner with this and not make all my other strings go out of tune?

  • ive read that works

  • would you recommend this for a floating trem on a Music Man Luke II ?

  • can i just solder the ground to one of the claws?

  • i have a tremol-no and all it does is stop the tremolo creating a stop tail piece but when i have it set for my floyd rose to move it dosent return to its correct postion and ultimately goes out of tune so im assuming thats what this thing will do is keep it in tune because the tremol-no dosent do that really. and does anyone know if you can tune from E to D standard without any problems with this thing because my guitar always goes out of tune in lower tuning when i use the floyd rose.

  • Does the tremsetter kit come with those safety glasses he is wearing?

  • Why cant you just use the old spring claw?

  • why drill? just drive the scwrews in unless there is a chance of splitting the wood. But the small ones dont need drilling.

  • if it keeps my strat in tune, great I just gotta have somebody else install it .

  • get a TREMOLO-NO its better

  • is there a video on you tube about it?

  • The TEEMOLO-NO and the TREMSETTER are totally different.

They both dont really do the same thing,

  • This video was just what I needed. I installed the Tremsetter on a '94 Hamer Daytona, and it worked just as advertised. I'm not comfortable with using drills on guitars, so I went slow followed directions. Now I can de-tune the low E to D without screwing up the entire guitar. Simple pleasures!

  • So basically the hipshot adds another spring under compression giving a push and pull effect. It's probably a lot easier just making one yourself. At least you'll understand how to fit it.

  • Now how the fuck would it be easier to make one yourself? Really.

  • It is not as complicated as it sound. I put one in. If you have a strat and use the tremolo......... It is a must have. I can bend up and down and I stay in tune. I also installed locking tuners and locking saddles. I got the saddles from Phantom Guitar Works......another must have!!!!!

  • jimi hendrix had that problem. everytime he uses the tremolo, he goes out of tune. he would ask the audience to give him a minute to tune up. this product can be handy for fender strats.

  • too many holes! too complicated! and who wants to drill his guitar!

  • You could explain why you think it's too complicated. And there's like 2 extra holes dude.

  • Too complicated.

  • Does Jeff Beck use these?

  • No, some of the effects he uses with the standard fender 2 point bridge are impossible with the tremsetter. It's keeping the tremolo from fluttering so much, and bending other strings out of tune.

He simply sets up the guitar well so that even with lots of play and whacking around, he'll still get a pretty stable sounding fender bridge. A well lubricated nut (and also, well cut) with graphite really really helps, as well as no snagging tuners and string trees.

  • I had heard Beck did use it, which is part of why I got one.

In any case I have one now on my 1971 Strat and it really really made a huge difference, it works way better than i thought it could. Highly recommend the tremsetter

  • There are other systems that do the exact same job as this but only need to have to be secured in place by 2 screws.

  • Too complicated for the average player. Perhaps The Tone King could dummy it down??? I'll see if I can get my hands on one.

  • yea I would be too scared to drill holes and stuff in my guitar. Even though I know it would do my guitar really good.

  • dude look at what i did to my Jackson with no experience at ALL! I just did it!

look at my video on "Routing my Jackson to install Fernandes FSK-401 Sustainer Kit"

  • this product looks way to complicated and shit. tremol-no's are way easier to install and you don't have to drill into your guitar

  • but tremol-no wont make your guitars tremolo go back to standard position, right?

  • looks a bit complicated to install, I think this guy should try and make a deal with a guitar maker to put them in their guitars. It looks like it works well but i would be well too scared to drill into a guitar and stuff

  • I dont understand. How is this to difficult to install?

  • because i have no diy experience, i dont even own a screwdriver lol. and i really wouldnt want to drill and screw around with the trem on an expensive instrument that i cant afford to replace if i break it.

  • does a tremsetter block pull-ups? because i want to have the full ability to dive bomb and pull up on my floyd rose style guitar. i dont care if its harder to do. i just want to know if i can pull up the same amount

  • Yes you can pull up with one of these.

I have bought 7 Tremsetter's for my Floyd equipped guitars, they are amazing!!

I've dealt with David Borisoff through emails and must say he is a real stand up guy

    Cheers

    Troy

  • Hey dude, those this eliminate the flutter effect on a Floyd Rose Original? I know it eliminates flutter like it shows in the video, but i really love to have that effect where you just like tap the bar and it vibrates the strings as well as pulling up and diving down. Don't know if they're the same thing or just named similarly because they're based on similar function or whatever...

  • you can still flutter like repeatedly hit the bar to make a fluttering sound, or spin the bar to make the flutter sound, he only means that when you pick a string the bridge wont move

  • I think Steve Vai uses these and he's mad for his flutter, so my guess is it doesn't but try emailing hipshot to be 100% i guess

  • Steve Vai uses them, assclown

  • and it's a reason to buy one of these things?

  • and can you play guitar assclown??

  • Actually, Yes. I am the greatest guitarist who ever lived. There's no need for you to bash this product just because it's not your thing. Many famous and great guitar players use these types of products. Just because tremolos aren't your thing doesn't give you the license to be a dick. People read these comments for something positive about the product(which is great BTW), not a negative comment from some smug asshole.

  • Tom Landry Longhorns!! GOOOO HORNS!!!!

  • yeah, im having one installed on my 3-tone sunburst w/maple neck american stratocaster. I read somwhere that srv used a tremsetter on his guitar, cause dats da sound im after.

  • I installed a tremsetter on my Ibanez S370 and it didn't work, I had to drill part of the tremolo block, It kinda messed it up but was blessed enough to save it by purchasing a tremol-no, I ended up throwing the tremsetter away.

  • Yes, it does... I'm installing one in my Ibanez Prestige in a few days but first the Stratocaster

  • drill my strat up? ya, not gonna happen

  • It's worth it. Really.

  • where do you find those crimp on terminals?

  • Radio Shack should have them, as well as any major hardware store (Lowe's, Home Depot, etc.). Most audio/car stereo stores should have them, too.

  • cool

  • Just installed it on my RG370DXL few hours ago :) This thing should be in every guitar!

  • I'd second that. I'd drill into both of my guitars for this improvement. Works perfectly with Charvel JT-590 and the made in Japan Ibanez Lo TRS tremolos.

  • for the Lo TRS trems it would be worth is cuz there horrible same with the edge III but the edge III isnt too bad ive had mine for 2 years with no detuning probs nd yes i do use my whammy like crazy!

  • does it hinder the ability to operate an edge trem at all like a stiff spot or any audible differences like that?

  • hey man i've got an ibanez jem 555, and its trem locks (i think that's what they're called...they're supposed to keep your guitar in tune while you play). do you know if this thing will work anyway, even with them?

  • it works on most floyd rose(i think all) including the edgeIII

  • great i saw it on guitarpartsdepot and wondered how it works definitely my next purchase

    great 5* video

  • This is what I have been looking for!!!

    Thanks.

  • Thanks for putting out this video!
