I'm a big fan of George Bush but even I cannot account for the difference in articulation. Sometimes when the stakes are higher it's harder to express oneself. My theory stems from his complete and total frustration with the people of the US. He generally felt his policies were the right ones, and he probably felt that he had done a good enough job selling the people on this policies, but was dumbfounded they didn't garner greater support. When he became President and in the months leading up to it other people wrote his speeches so he was nervous and had trouble getting his thoughts out because they weren't really his. If you go over old videos of him doing speeches and debates in Texas, even going as far back as his first debate ever for a Texas state representative position, he speaks very eloquently, logically, and reasonably, and he was even ridiculed for coming off as "too much of a brain" in that campaign, which he lost for that reason.
Like I said, he wrote his own speeches back then and didn't have to speak for the nation. Just a state. It's much easier to speak if it's your own words. Actually, George Bush practiced and memorized his ONE appearance as he debated for the seat as governor. As president, he had no time, nor need to practice the thousands of appearances but instead had to rely on his mind, which never WAS any better than what we see today.

Most oil ventures fail, actually. I'm not saying that in defense of Bush (whom I despise), but its a plain, simple truth that finding oil in even oil-rich Texas is not particularly easy. That's why the industry is so dominated by huge, multinational conglomerates; because they can afford to blow the odd billion on a series of dry holes, while small operations like Arbusto Petroleum could not.

I'm a big fan of George Bush but even I cannot account for the difference in articulation. Sometimes when the stakes are higher it's harder to express oneself. My theory stems from his complete and total frustration with the people of the US. He generally felt his policies were the right ones, and he probably felt that he had done a good enough job selling the people on this policies, but was dumbfounded they didn't garner greater support. By far his weakest asset - selling his policies.

It's simple: public speaking is easier when you're both: a. less nervous, b. more educated about the subject at hand.
When you're in front of a national audience speaking about Federal politics, you're more likely to hesitate/pause and make blunders.

Despite what the media says, Bush isn't dumb. He sucks at public speaking. The only way to get past the fear is to write your speech and practice. When he became President and in the months leading up to it other people wrote his speeches so he was nervous and had trouble getting his thoughts out because they weren't really his. The earlier clip shows he's not stupid or he would stumble all the time.

Bush does not suck at public speaking. If you go over old videos of him doing speeches and debates in Texas, even going as far back as his first debate ever for a Texas state representative position, he speaks very eloquently, logically, and reasonably, and he was even ridiculed for coming off as "too much of a brain" in that campaign, which he lost for that reason.

When he started running for President and eventually become President other people wrote his speeches. He wouldn't just grow dumb all of a sudden.

As President, he is a puppet, under the hammer of the people who really run this country, those cowards that hide behind the curtain. There is no doubt in my mind that in some instances while he has spoken during his presidency, he may have actually been quite afraid.
