Ms Dennerlein does not "defeat the point of Bach's music" - bad classical musicians can do. She simply uses the Toccata as material for jazz. What regards the use of themes from Bach most purists fail to understand that this does NOT offend a "holy grail". Using other musician's themes as material was normal in his times. The 19th century brought the cult of genius and authorship.
Bach, sitting beside Ms Dennerlein: "That's new, great! Teach me jazz!"
(Quote: Bach, sitting beside Ms Dennerlein: "That's new, great! Teach me jazz!")
Why? For sheer musical curiosity, and he would have liked her verve, drive, inventiveness, and, above all, the improvisation - an art forgotten in classical music since his times. Nowadays the purists even complain when soloists perform their own cadenzas ...
Is the B3/Leslie tone just a little too... well, maybe you're burned out on it, or you want to give it a rest for a while, or you just want to explore another Hammond avenue? Get M3 and put a hotter tube where the percussion tube is - it's a 6c4, or a 6u4 or something ( I'm going from memory). Alright, so put a 12bq5. So now that it is hotter it's louder too.Now for the 'secret tab' ! Put the Hard/Soft Percussion tab half way between the two settings . Instant Leslie! Anyone else know this?
Man, she tears it Up! I wonder what the 17 thumbs down are about? Haters!. LOL Jackass' don't know music. To bad, so sad.
I Love this woman. She's the best, Wow! I would love to have her on my arm for a dinner date. Oh yeah baby! A woman you can walk around and hold your head up with.
Bach Improv? It´s som original phrases of one of the most popular tunes, so popular that most serious organists don´t like to play it. Then comes some improv which has hardly something to do with Bach. It´s just poor name dropping.
DAMN!!! SHE IS GREAT!!!! Those are Jimmy Smith(RIP) settings on that Hammond...I am sure he would be proud of her!!!. I wonder how long did it take to learn this piece? 20 STARS+ EASY is my rating!!! PEACE!!!
No I know what you mean but she obviously can do both some of her pieces she is like the ultimate sequencer pumping out 3 parts with clock type precision and some people bag her for this, then you hear her flow and improvise with feel and heart an amazing player no doubt quite amazing
"It's a 50 year old Hammond B3 that has been built into a custom portable case (in Germany called "Bertram-Umbau" by Hammond shop Bertram, Freiburg.) You have these cases in USA, too, so I don't think it's been patented by Bertram.)
Barbara's Hammond was extended by additional MIDI contacts in the keys and pedals around 1988/89."
Holy sh... she had to practice for veeeery long to be skilled enough to play with so great fluency on pedals. I am really amazed.
And the way she turned the Tocatta into a jazz - awesome. I can't believe she did it :) - i remember i tried once, but i had no idea to do it. She had got a great passion of creating!
