DX5, in your opinion, where lies the secret of those amazing sounds ? Is it the machine (Emax, Emulator, etc.) or the samples on them, that are so good ?

Could you use a modern hifi sampler with the original samples to create the same atmosphere ?

@Keybern Maybe they are both, sampler and samples. Some of the sounds I use are library samples (emu and third party). Other are sounds I sampled from my keyboards, and the Emax makes them sounding more gritty and noiser. sound is coloured by the emus.

I also have an Akai S3000, and never use it for these kind of music. Emaxes (specially the I model with analog filter and VCA) add complexity to the sound
