I love it when we explore castles. Especially intriguing is how this one has fallen into ruin, yet still survives in spite of it. i have to wonder how many people lived here, and what sort of lifestyle it was.
As you know, I adore your informative videos, the travelogues, the cooking shows... but lets not have any more suspense presentations! Filming and going down those steps is seconding only to driving and texting!
Hey, do you know Birkenhead Park? Please don't respond with, "I don't think so, can you hum a few bars?"... or "is that the one about the cake melting in the rain?"
Yes i know Birkenhead Park very well, i have been there many times...after visiting the park in 1850, American landscape architect Frederick Law Olmsted incorporated many of its features into his design for New York's Central Park... and cakes don't melt in the rain around here because we eat them, but I don't think that I can take it, cos it took so long to bake it, and I'll never have that recipe again.
There was a special on our PBS last night and that is exactly how I heard about the park. Also his book, something like, "An American Farmer Walks Through England" is available at Amazon.
Fred did Central Park and 3 parks here in Louisville and a few parkways.
What a beautiful castle! I can just picture the noble ladies dressed in their medieval finery walking around in the courtyard and the knights in shining armor on their horses.
I love theses outings you go on...I have found out doing through ancestry searches that I come from English Royalty from many great grandfather generations back Sir Thomas Arundell of Lanherne was a great, great, great + grandfather of mine are you close to the Old Wardour Castle? that was own by my ancestors at one time I know there are 2 the old one that was blown up and the new one that was rebuilt down the road from the old one...
Yes the stones were stolen.... this was common practice back then and many buildings have been built used stones robbed from castles including other castles!
great video Trish, you sure go on some nice outings! hehe.. and im always grateful that you take your camera! (no slips or trips this time I take it? haha).. have a lovely week ~ Ryan x
Oh, Twishypoodle, I always love your castle excursion videos! You're so fortunate to live in a country full of so many intriguing and wonderful places to explore. If I lived in Britain, I think all my time would be spent lurking about about all the castles and ghost hunting. :-) Thanks so much for sharing your adventure with us! xoxo

I am fascinated by structures like this. I live in a place where a structure is 100 years old it is considered ancient!
It was nice that you had the entire place to yourself when you took the initial video and photos. Was there water in the well?
I can imagine what a busy place the interior yard must have been.

@yoyomax12
Yes it was extra special there for the first hour as the castle was all ours!
I couldn't see any water in the well but it was very deep
I bet Max would love to visit a castle

Sir Thomas Arundell was born in 1502 so you have gone back a long way in your ancestry searches,,, how fascinating!!

What a fantastic view!
I wonder where all the stones were carried off to? Did people take them to build themselves a fireplace maybe?
