  • thank you so much for the tips...i didnt even think about bringing in the foundation i use now to pick out a drugstore one

  • I can't believe you don't have testers in the US. In Canada you can try any drugstore product.

  • so i was looking for a video for a "how to choose a foundation" and i KNEW youd be one of the gurus who had one =) you are always so helpful xo

  • What kind of foundations should people with a normal skin type use? I'm going to prom soon and have no idea where to even begin.

  • CVS has a %100 return policy for any reason whatever, they don't ask questions, they just take it back.

  • Could you do a video like this for powder foundations?? Thanks!

  • when i need makeup tips/reviews, i watch your videos

when i just feel like listening to something, i tend to just listen to your videos

  • I honestly never thought of talking in my old foundation....I feel silly now.

  • i took my foundation to walmart and one of the workers thought i was stealing -_-

  • very helpful :) thanks

  • Don't you have testers in drugstore? We do have, here in Finland..

  • I might suggest going for a shade that seems lighter than your skin tone as seen in the bottle...granted, I've only tried matching once, but I found that the actual foundation was darker than what it looked like through the glass bottle (I tried Revlon ColorStay; I now use Mineral Powder Foundation)... Anyone else with a similar experience?

  • @swallowinthetwilight Yeah I agree. I have never tried a foundation that looks like what it does in the bottle and yes its almost always darker on you then the color in the bottle.

  • @emilynoel83 Hey what color are you in Loreal Visible lift foundation?

  • SHE IS SO RIGHT...I WENT TO THE DRUGSTORE THE OTHER DAY WITH MY GORGEOUS BOYFRIEND AND PICKED UP 3 NEW FOUNDATIONS....I USED MY COVER GIRL CREAMY NATURAL FOUNDATION TO COMPARE THE OTHERS TOO...THIS WORKED GREAT!!!! THE NEW ONES I TRIED WERE....COVER GIRL REHAB....COVER GIRL RADIANCE....AND THE NEW REVLON AGE DEFY WITH DNA!!!! THEY WERE ARE WONDERFUL FOUNDATIONS!!!! I GOT ALL 3 FOR $47 WITH TAX!!!!

  • I THINK COVER GIRL AND REVLON MAKE THE BEST FOUNDATION COLORS FOR FAIR SKINNED PEOPLE! REVLON IS DEF. THE KING OF FOUNDATIONS!

  • I found 2 that work for me...Maybelline Instant Age Rewind...love the feel..it also has spf 18..also L'Oreal Visible Lift w/ pro-retinol A+ & Vit.C ( goes on smooth...looks natural..and brightens up ur smile ( 2 very good products...that I would recommend) =) Revlon Colorstay is also nice...a little heavier..but still a nice foundation.

  • @veraaxKaulitz I've tried all 3 and I think the Loreal is more like Colorstay. It's a much more heavier coverage foundation than the Photoready. Hope this helped!

  • Was looking for a foundation with a dewy finish thanks for noteting all the infos in the side bar its really helpful :)

  • so amazingly helpful! I have always been afraid of eye-balling my color but now I know what to do :) thanks

  • Revlon Colorstayyyyy!! Has both combination/oily skin and normal/dry skin! and it wears for a long time, I've been using it for yeaaaaars and it can be a medium to heavy coverage. I would really recommend this to anyone!

  • i guess they dont have testers in the drugstores in the US... that sucks

  • hi there..

QUESTION: k so..ive used colorstay and photoready...i DISLIKE photoready because it doesnt have a good coverage AND it doesnt last on my face as much as the revlon colorstay does.. in comparison to those both foundations..how would you say the Loreal visibleLift is? is it more like colorstay..or photoready? is it good coverage AND long wear?

i would appreciate if someone could please answer back asap

    Thank you!!!

  • I have always been able to find the perfect drugstore foundation color for me. Not for a good reason though. I am so pale that I am always the lightest shade a brand has, or they don't have a shade light enough for me:(

    Summer, hurry up!

  • Why is it that every one else is answering other people's questions, but Emily isn't? I love her, but it kinda makes me sad that's she hasn't answered hardly any of the questions her subscribers have..

  • Thank u, very helpful tip.

  • This is amazing, thank you love!!:))

  • Great video helped me a lot! Im 14, trying to find a great foundation that gives a healthy glow and that isn't dry. I have dry to normal skin semi acne prone. Doesn't matter the lasting power only need it on for about and hour. Thinking about elfs foundation or maybellines erase foundation...can't decide hard to figure out my color also, I'm on the fair side so can't be to hard! Lol wish me luck! Hopefully starting videos soon (:

  • @BaileyNicolee97 im 14 too and i have the same problem. I'm going to try cover girl nature luxe silk foundation, you should give it a try too! hope it helps!(:

  • @TheGlittergirl06 yeah i'm going to try the nature luxe too! i always look up tons of reviews before i purchase, i usually go to makeupa alley they have great reviews (:

  • haha thats funny , i actually mix neutregena healthy skin makeup w/ rimmel london cuz it was 2 dark for me!

  • THX YOU> <

  • I have an olive skintone, And most foundations seem to turn my face pinkish. Any advice?

  • tips for covering blemishes and pimples?

  • what do I do though if ALL foundation is too dark for me? I always find my face looking much darker than my chest and neck if I wear a v neck but I need at least medium coverage so I can't just go for a tinted moisturizer. I blend very well with my brushes but it's just too dark. do you have any suggestions for a very pale foundation that is medium coverage and would be good for someone with combination/oily skin?

  • @ginolikesfood Try Revlon Colorstay in Ivory for oily/combination. That's the lightest drug store foundation I know of. Otherwise you have to try higher end foundation because they normally have a wider range.

  • @ginolikesfood maybelline dream satin liquid foundation is a good one or loreal true match

  • Emily, please help me out here. my face skin colour is always lighter than the rest of my body, especially during summer time. Should I match my body skin colour ( Neck skin colour) or should I simply match my face skin colour? I'm currently using foundation that match my face skin colour and it always make my face look white in picture (photo taken w flash).

  • u did a great job!! i think you can also go to a makeup station at for example Macys and ask them whts your shade those girls or guys r pretty helpful

  • this so didn't help =[

guess i'll keep trying to figure out drug store foundations on my own.

  • Soo helpful! :)

  • I was looking for guides on this. I haven't used foundation for a LONG time and needed to buy new. But I really had no idea what I was doing then and really wanted to do some research. You've given me really good info and i appreciate that. Love, love, love your videos. Keep up the good work.

PS I love the color on your lips. What is it? <3

  • xmuzicfreakzx same here..

  • For some reason for me, I just get the second the lightest shade and it ALWAYS fits me...

  • This really helped a lot! Thanks you

  • Best foundation would be Revlon Colorstay, its not light weight but its not bothersome either, stays on for a long time and is the best foundation for oily skin, AND it has heavy coverage, almost no cons. ♥

  • I Love MAC Studio Sculpt NW40, & Make Up For Ever HD in 153. When I was a teenager my favorite drugstore foundation was Cover Girl Clear Skin with Neurogena. I don't remember, but it was Awesome back then. I haven't bought that since I was 17 years old, many moons ago lol :)

  • Sorry Noxzema LOL

  • i luv clinique foundation in cream whip. have a fab weekend & happy holidays

  • i have revlon color stay and i cant get over the smell :c

  • this helped sooo much! thank you :D

  • omg so i subscribed to you in the first 10 second of watching and then when you said Emily i was like oh yaa defiantly loving this girl :)))) (my names emily) :DD

  • Revlon Colorstay works beautifully! Very light weight and long wearing!

  • I just bought my first foundation the other day. I found my exact match is 200 soft beige in the Rimmel London lasting finish. I'm so happy I got it right on the first try. <3

  • I have the L'oreal infallible foundation in Golden Sun 260 which is the perfect colour for me, but I'd like to switch to the L'oreal Visible Lift foundation, they have one in 260, but it's called Golden Sand,

Do you think it would work for me?

  • Great video! Why have I never thought to take a foundation that works for me to the store as a reference?

  • could you please do a review on the l'oreal visible lift foundation? (It's like the last one you showed at the end and i've been searching for a good review that when it showed it really quickly i was like WAIT -pause video- OMG) ^.^

  • Hi Emily, My question is about concealer. I don't know if it should be lighter then the fondation.

  • @sully273 ur concealer should be 1-2 shades lighter then your foundation/ skintone! :)

  • @sully273 if it's for under eye circles, most people prefer it to be a tiny bit lighter than their foundation/skintone, but if it's for blemishes around your face, it should match your foundation

  • what are your thoughts on the maybelline fit me foundation?

  • @kwl7j5dw I don't like it because it makes your face really shiny, caking and it smells bad but its good coverage :)

  • @kwl7j5dw horriable ,when i used it it would wear off really quickly and you can also feel it on ur face its very heavy.

  • @kwl7j5dw its actually not that great

  • Emily, i LOVE your reviews ;D

  • Omg .. 640 Vids !

  • Revlon Colorstay is the best drugstore foundation! Period!! I have to blend two colors get the right match, but for 12 bucks or so......why not? You're such an amazing guru! I've learned so much from you:)

  • wht if its ur very first time buyin foundation what do u suggest

  • very helpful

  • "Have a great day, *wave* see ya laterrr." lol Ur so cute.

  • what foundation do you use?? I have similar coloring as you

  • my daughter wrks at Priceline and every product has a tester .. yay!!

  • i always go to temptalia foundation matrix, it helps alot

  • Thanks you soooooo very much, this was extremely helpful!

  • AMAZING REVIEW.. ;) I always find it hard the right shade and brand knowing that drugstores doesnt give samples here in the Philippines... we really have to buy it before we can try it home..

  • Do you have a list of all the shades that work for you somewhere? I'm the same shade as you in Rimmel Lasting Finish and Revlon Colorstay. :)

  • Cool tool: Temptalia Foundation Matrix. Google it! If you can get yourself to a MAC counter (in Macy's/Nordstroms) then you can try out lots of shades and see what's best on you. Then check out Temptalia's Foundation Matrix and see what kinds of other foundations might match your MAC foundation the best. Love this!

  • I love Revlon Color Stay!

  • @midnightroza

    Quick ways of telling are

If your veins that you see through your skin are blue then you're cool(pink) toned.

If your veins are greenish then you're warm(yellow) toned.

Also If you get sunburnt rather than tanned in the sun you are cool toned.

  • thank you so much

  • I would suggest if possible go to a department store for the first foundation. Or you could take a concealer to the drugstore and go for something a teensy bit darker. If your concealer is perfect and its from maybelline in the shade beige, go get the foundation for your skintype in same or ldarker shade since concealer is lighter.

  • Walgreens allows you to return makeup if its not the right shade or doesnt work for you. I wouldn't abuse this, but they do allow it. :]

  • What do I need to do if I'm choosing my FIRST foundation?

  • You should be news cast lady :D and thanks for the video !

  • try going to a makeup counter get matched and a sample, use that as your color match at drug store. i just thought of that because i have to sample makeup as I am allergic to many chemical found in beauty products

  • Every single foundation I have tried was too dark for me... I always take the lightest... and nothing has been pale enough... Dx I'm like albino!

  • i love all of your videos!!! you're so informative & take your time to actually explain things. you're also super pretty!!

  • Yeah today I got the rimmel London match perfection foundation and it's hard to get off it dosnt say long lasting but it is so yeah

It's my first liquid foundation too!

  • I'm always a soft honey or something like that and I use Covergirl powder foundation and concealer and I can't stand them! They don't last at all and they make me break out.

  • here is a great question how do you tell want your under tone is? like how do you know if your more pink or more yellow and which foundations would work with that? also how can you tell if your warm or cool? it is all so confusing. i use fit me by maybelline and it works okay but idk if i picked the right one

  • you look like amy winehouse here!

  • i love that wet and wild one

  • Thanks for this video and all your helpful tips!

  • I LOVE REVLON COLOR STAY!!!! Great coverage & stays all day!!! I always buy them at walgreens when they are buy one get one free or half off that way I get one close to my skin tone & darker fondation so I always get the correct color because my skin tone changes. I use a stippling brush to apply so I can mix the colors to be perfect.

  • I also should add I dislike true match & maybelline true fit.

  • Hello Emily. :). I just wanted to ask whether we can compare power foundation to the liquid? Because i only have the powder one and i would like to buy the liquid type. Thanks! :)

  • i love ur eye makeup! :)

  • Lol "im just saying"

  • I can't find a good yellow-undertoned foundation. T_T

  • @LoverholicShawol Try Revlon foundations, they have good yellow-toned options =]

  • There is also a tool to use for some kinds of foundation that matches your shade, I use that, grab that color that matches, and use that as a refrence. :)

  • too much makeup on you

  • I tried bringing my old foundation to the store and they thought i was stealing it -_- lol

  • @realmelzbrown Remember what shade ur in for ur foundation . go to the store and find the one ur currently using and compare that one with other foundations :D . I got accused for stealing too cuz i took my old foundation xD .

  • @realmelzbrown you could take a picture on your phone:)

  • what would you say is the best drug store foundation you bought? im trying to find a good one but dunno what to buy :/

  • thank you sooooooooooo much for this!

  • I LOVE Revlon Colorstay foundation!

  • It's great if you can get matched at a MAC or other cosmetic counter (even if you don't buy it) then find a guru that wears the same shade as you. That way, when they find new drug store foundations that work, you know what shade to try!

  • you are so beautiful!! great video

  • hi emily, i have a silly question...i usually use powder like clinique and shiseido. can i compare my powder color to the liquid or cream foundation? i'm thinking the liquid foundation may dry a different shade? thanks for sharing and thanks for your time! *hugs* steph :)

  • @heymynameiskaylaa me too:) just in case ;)

  • @Brownbirdfeather me too!!!! I just got my first foundation ever today, and it is the EXACT color!!!!!!! Lol!!!!! ( and when I say first foundation I'm not counting mineral powders ;)

  • I got lucky my first ever foundation (drugstore) I guessed right, an got exactly what I wanted, but I want to try a fuller coverage (I know wrong season but...)

  • i dont have a liquid foundation at all... :( but i use Medium Beige from Bare Minerals. :(

  • Here in the uk we have testers

  • i have wore foundation for as long as i can remember and i have yet to get a foundation i find to match my skin this video im hopin will help next time i go shoppin i never thought of takin a foundation that doesnt quite match to the store with me to compare and help find a matchin colour so thank you so much for givin me the hint on that one :)

  • You're pretty!Your hair is pretty!Thx for the video! It's great and you alway come with something very helpfull.lol

  • Hi Emily,

In your Opinion what's the Best full-coverage Matte Foundation?!? I have oily skin!

  • @MrzRodriguez1 personally either the dream matte mousse or mat+ by makeup forever

  • revlon colorstay is awesome!

passed my sweat test from being outdoors!

  • Yu are so beautiful! Well I have watch most of Your videos n they are good the have helped alot when buying my make up!(: thankyou!

  • You are soooo pretty!

  • I've requested a sample chart from Mabelline I believe from their website for thier fit me foundation and it's a good thing for companies to do something like that if people don't want to bother trying so many shades of foundation or don't want to take so much time just find their correst shade.

  • Great vid very informative

  • Ur gorgeous.!

  • Or go to a department store and have them match you and give you a 7 day sample and you can use that as your color guide. I know clinique does give you a sample.

  • dont know how this makes sense. but i have oily skin, yet it's still REALLY dry. dont ask me how. idfk.

  • @Alihex314159 i think i have the same problem. Maybe it is dehydrated???

  • @Alihex314159 i think i have the same problem. Maybe it is dehydrated???

  • @Alihex314159

I think your like me then you have combination skin. Is your skin more oily or dry? Also can I ask what foundation you use? I use Revlon Colorstay and that seems to work for me its just I'm looking to try another kind.

  • @sweetnlovin i think it's more dry. I use avon ideal shade foundation lotion. It's moisturizing and it kinda morphs to your skin tone so i really like it. I think its being introduced at an introductory price of $6.00 right now but depending on where you live you might not be able to get it.

  • In the UK we have testers for everything, so its much easier to find your shade :)

  • Your hair looks great :)

  • You can't imagine how good you look! Love this look!

  • another ti go to a department store ask them to match u and then ask for a small sample that was u dont have a lot but get matched just be sure to tip who ever helps only kind!!!

  • this video was SO helpful! thank you!

  • you are awesome!!!! love you!!! lol!

  • This is what's so great about having really pale skin. You just grab the lightest one on the shelf. I've only gotten a wrong color once or twice, with the pink/yellow problem.

  • @NaviLovesLink - Hell yeah, makes life so much easier for me.

  • @NaviLovesLink unless the lightest is too dark for you haha *points to self*

  • @NaviLovesLink : I have that same problem (pink, yellow). For some reason I just can't find yellow pale foundations :/ which brand do you use?

  • @Thaliane I use Lancome Teint Miracle right now. The lightest shade is yellow toned.

Try Loreal True Match at the drugstore, I have that foundation and it's nice and comes in every color imaginable. They have a color matcher there too. I have warm, pale, yellow-toned skin and ones that have worked for me are Revlon Photoready, Maybeliene Dream Moose, and Loreal True Match.

    Hope this helped!

  • @NaviLovesLink I've had True Match C1 Rose Ivory for a while now and it's still too pink. Perhaps I'll try one with a W number :). And I'll check out the others!

  • @NaviLovesLink I agree. I always just grab "Porcelain" or something close to that and have never had a problem!

  • @NaviLovesLink Agreed. But the hard part about about having our skin tone is many foundations stop at a light tan.

  • @NaviLovesLink I KNOW! it's so easy! :)

  • Hi! Thank you for making this video! I went out yesterday to buy a foundation, but this is in fact my first time. You may have heard of the true match foundation. They give you a transparency to match your skin. Yes, you may not want to use that product like I did, but now you can use the reference tip you shared. I ended up doing this and found my shade for rimmels lasting finished. I just wanted to share this to anyone else who is getting a foundation for first time. Hope it helps!

  • another tip ...is to go2 a makeup counter have them color match you and ask for a sample..then take that to the drugstore =)

  • @lilvaness661 Awesome idea!!

  • I want to add a tip if not mentioned in the video (it's still playing): don't ever EVER use a foundation with a pink undertone. Awful. Even before makeup guru Bobbi Brown stated this, I agreed with that philosophy.

  • @lovetwins89 I'm confused about the pink and yellow tones, do you know why they say never to use one with a pink, rather than yellow, undertone? Thanks in advance!

  • I'm 37 so by now, I've tried it all, lol. I have to mix 2 shades of Revlon Colorstay and Estee Lauder double wear.

  • I love that you feature a lot of drugstore products in your videos and not just all MAC like other gurus since not everyone can afford to buy all MAC products. Very helpful! :)

  • BUNNY!

  • I brought my Revlon color stay with me once to walmart to shade match myself for the covergirl nature Luxe Foundation. I put my color-stay back into my purse, and then got arrested for shop-lifting... That was fun... Now I have that little incident on my record and had to pay a $75 fine. I hate walmart... -_-

  • @hamstergurl123 Oh my gosh! They wouldn't believe you when you said it was yours? I' m so sorry. I was actually wondering about this possibility when she mentioned this idea.

  • @lciaravi Yeah I know. I only used it twice so when they opened it when I said it was mine, they were like "yeah right, this thing is full." I payed for the other one! Why wouldn't I pay for both of them. Fricken stupid people... I swear.

  • Everytime I buy cosmetics at the drugstore, I think "oh I wish they had testers" . But when they have testers, it's too icky to use or someone stole it! At the L'oreal website, I saw a video of a makeup artist buying foundationat the drugstore. She said to bring a mirror & take the foundation to the window to compare it to your face. I haven't tried this method yet. I 've always used Emily's method. You can also use a brand you already use for comparing to another brand.

  • What can I do when I have the right shade, but as soon as I put my powder on it turns orange. I have tried lighter and darker powder but they all turn my face orange. And help you can give would be great

  • @DanieBoo78 I'm not an expert, but make sure you try a translucent powder? The powder you set your foundation with shouldn't affect the color of your foundation. Goodluck :)
