  • can she run without diesel helpers?

  • @kickflip1234100 Yes but it wont have enough horse power to carry all those cars that fast.

  • That is a BEAUTIFUL engine!

  • What a wonderful sight and sound!! It reminds me of my days as fireman in South Africa on the mighty 4-8-4s that we had on the line through the Karoo desert there. The South African locos were just about based on the mighty NYC Niagra 4-8-4s. Wonderful stuff and thanks for posting

  • is that an SD70 on behind the 844?

  • What a beast!

  • It was a nice day. I was in the white Pontiac Montana that you passed on the Soldiers Spring Road

  • That steam locomotive looks beautiful, and it runs just right.

  • I love this video, I'm a huge fan of steam locomotives, although I haven't seen any lately. I'll have to find some soon.

  • That's my white Pontiac van he passes! I'm on TV!

  • There is nothing to say exccept what majesty of a machine

  • Another good video, Skip. Thank you for uploading.

  • you are an amazing photographer

  • GREAT !! Nice Video !

  • Wonderful video of a truly magnificent machine! Being a classic cab rear I wonder what the cab crew was thinking as they went through the mountain tunnels! (Sucking smoke & steam the whole way)

  • amazing steam locomotive acceleration but this living legend 844, great video, thank you skipW

i have dream to see american big steam locomotive sp 4449, up 3985 and up 844, atsf 3751 ..... rio grande .... amazing machines, .... but i from in the poland

  • what speed was it doing? bloody beautiful machine

  • Magnificent! They must have put roads alongside railway lines so that guys like you could make videos like this. Rail travel lost its character when steam was retired.

  • Beautiful machine!

  • does the 844 have a 6-chime, or a hancock 3-chime?

  • UP's 3985 and 844 both carry the same commercial Hancock 3 chime whistle, but there are subtle differences to the sounds of each engine. 611 carried a Hancock 3 chime and so does 4449, but neither of these engines sound like the UP jobs. To complicate matters, Steve Lee has a personal favorite IC homebuilt three chime that he bolts on to one or the other UP engines on occasion.

  • Wow, You're right about 4449's, it's a 3 chime from a GN 2-8-0 or a 2-8-8-0. amazing what a 20psi difference can have on the sane whistle, on the 3985 and 844 I mean.

  • Very nice video!!! Great Capture!!!

  • BLACK POWER ;) 5*

  • Thank you for a splendid video!

  • now that is cool

  • It has 80" Driving Wheels 6' 8" that would be close to 21' traveled per stroke

  • What a beauty, I would bet in her day she could pull a full load at at least 110mph. The drivers must be 6ft.

  • Awesome work Skip. You're really up close & personal as they're leaving town.

  • I favorited this one just due to the spectacular video catching and editing - Great work!!!

  • Wow, are you taping it while driving?

  • incredible :D

  • Awesome vid, will it be possible to watch it in HD?

  • It takes a few hours extra for the HD to process thru, but it is in 1280x720p

  • Can't thank you enough for posting this.

Each of your videos is a trip back in time for me.

    Thanks again
