Kamal himself said it. Oscar is not the best yardstick for Indian cinema. Actually it true for any Asian movie, Kurosawa or Satyajit's movies didn't win oscar after oscar in the foreign language category. At the same time, the movies in the foreign language category that make it to the academy awards don't suck. And my dear friend Balankumar, movies in languages other than English aren't nominated in the same category as Milk, and Sean Penn isn't your average garbage actor either.
Ilayaraja's music for this movie is amazing. The pianowork on the song "Nee paatha Paarvai" is so melodious. And this current song suits the ending of the movie perfectly.
Is it true that the soundtrack intially started by L balasubramaniam and then later on he dropped out of the film with some issues with kamal sir and later it was taken by Illayaraja.. Heard about this not sure what composition by this man ,.. Great
yep..L.subramaniam's composition were taken...then Kamal demanded IR, as he knows only IR can do the best music score for such a movie...During this movie realease..they showed how Kamal sit with IR and enjoy the composition..especially the song "isaiyil thodanguthamma"...
ilayaraja only did the background score for the movie.. kamal wanted ir to do the background score whihc is his biggest strength but the songs were composed by someone else..
no..the songs were done by Isaigyani only..it was L S who started as the music director and later withdrew, by that time some of the songs were already filmed. But Kamal was not satisfied with the music. The genius of Isaigyani came to his rescue and what way...he scored music of the songs based on the song picturization

For this movie the music Legend compose the music for the scenes shot, after which the original MD moved out of the movie..what an orchestration by the Music Genius and a Living Legend of Indian Music...the female voice in this bit is song was sung by Kamal's own daughter Shruti..
