@YoungKoolness17 Hirohito had no control over what happened with Japan during World War 2. Tojo on the other hand was the head of the military leadership in Imperial Japan at that time, so yes, something bad was well deserved for Tojo
@cpreston5 in the end any man or government with absolute power is capable of more heinous crimes u thought possible. its been like that since the birth of mankind just different nations n different era's.
@cpreston5 well usa and her allies have killed millions of civilians since ww2 as well. they are the ones who not only let the men behind unit 731 walk but paid them for handing over their research.
@8059875 Millions is somewhat of an exaggeration but yes the USA has commited many crimes, but when you have the two most powerful countries to ever exist (USA + USSR) competing viciously to prevent the other from achieving global dominance nasty things have to be done. The USA didn't do anything the Soviets didn't, and we can see now that capitalist societies are better than commuist ones.
As for Japan, sometimes minor injustices were allowed for greater rewards. Like keeping Hirohito
@cpreston5 "capitalist societies are better than commuist ones" no doubt about that i wouldnt want to live in a oppressive communist society. And i agree with everything u said. i was simply making a point that usa isnt as pure and liberty loving as people think and that all nations have a ugly bad past but that doesnt mean it should be brought up again and again. The japs in todays generation have nothing to do with the crimes commited in ww2 so the racism against them is invalid.
@8059875 Precisely, the USA commited some fairly shocking crimes. I only brought up the whole war crimes thing because there was some neo-fascist troll skulking about. We mustn't ever blame people for their country's past crimes, (I'm British so you could go on at me about my country for a fair while) but it's equally important that we never forget. they should have executed hirohito and tojo, this is unbelievable japan did not follow the rules of modern warefare therefore will probably never gain respect
I cant believe that people try to defend Imperial Japan. Imperial Japan is undoubtedly amongst the most vile and cruel states to ever exist. In the course of it's brief 90 year existence it killed tens of millions of Chinese, Filipinos, Indonesians, Burmese etc.
Japan had no qualms about it's civilians dieing, it's plans in the case of an American invasion included forcing millions of civilians against US firepower armed with little more than spears.
too bad terrorists still use this tactic, why should people ever this that they should resort to this, strapping a bomb to civilians to draw out americans trying to help them
@SniperSurkov not fake, but you are correct when you say the japan did not force its supporters to do this. (although i will admit the woman seems quite reluctant and sad to blow herself up) japanese civilians and sypathizers freely chose to resist the americans in this way, so in that sense you are correct
@SniperSurkov I forgot to add but mostly the civilians didn't want to give themselves out so they actually did this. But there were cases where they forced civilians to do this.
@xXxPinoyBallerxXx I think she has a bomb on her of some sort and a Japanese soldier shot it, making her explode. If you hear closely before she blew up, you can hear a gunfire.
@dhksrksalem The Japanese don't know WW2 history well, because it is covered up in the history books and Japanese war criminals are honoured as heroes. There is even a shrine to some of those responsible for heinous acts.

As the grandson of a commonwealth WW2 veteran, all I can say - is fuck the Japs and fuck the Nazis. It's actions like these that make me happy, we bombed Dresden, Hiroshima, Nagasaki - fascist shits.
@Aurelian603 are you for real? i don't agree with nazi or japanese ideals but when it comes down to it they were soldiers, just soldiers just like your grandfather, they believe that what they're fighting for is right just like we do, and it isn't their fault, it's their leaders, so to say you're happy about nagasaki and hiroshima is disgusting, hundreds of thousands of civilians were the victims in these attacks, women, children, grandparents, your feelings about these atrocities is worrisome.
Please, those women were probably the wives and girlfriends of the stormtroopers who were carrying out the atrocities. The kids probably thought these men were heroes and the parents and the grand parents were the ones who brought them up to believe that this crap was the good thing to do. The difference between my Grandfather and those psychopaths, is that he volunteered to be a human shield for the weak and defenseless, they just innocent people as human shields.
@Aurelian603 So the senseless killing by one faction justifies senseless killing by the other faction? Their government might have been wrong and evil but that doesn't mean that all the soldiers were evil as well. Most of the soldiers were just average people who happened to be in the army when their governments sent them off to die. How do you think people in Iraq look at the U.S. Soldiers there? They look at them as genocidal pigs hell bent on their destruction. But is that the truth?
I would rather be at normandy raiding the beaches...i had a better chance surviveing there than being in the pacific....Japs dont even know what the word retreat is... You can blow one in half, and they will still be chucking nades at you...
Honestly I think the Japanese were more Scary than the Nazi in World War 2. the only thing that made Nazi scary was the Technology, and the Japanese were Setting Traps, and Ambushing, and sending Human Wave Attacks without and Fear of Death. Honestly I'd Like to just Fight the Germans instead of the Japanese, those guys have no Freaking Fear.
@brianthao102 The nazis did horrific experiments to people. Killed 11 million in the Holocaust. And killed 19 million soviet civilians. Im not sure why your commentgo 4 thumbs up.
@MrBigBEARHUNTER Plus if you have hundreds of Japanese charging at you, I'm sure you will be devastated by the courage these Japanese had to go through for running into death like that.
@MrBigBEARHUNTER Sure that the only thing that made the Nazis scary was their technology and engineering, but the Japanese Zero was the Fastest airplane in that time. So the Nazi Battle Planes weren't really that great because they saw little Action in WW2 at the time while the Japanese Zero was used in Pearl Harbor and Midway and was the main plane to Kamikaze with. so if i were you, I'd fear the Crazy Japanese pilot with the Zero.
@MrBigBEARHUNTER In japan Training was not that good but they took UK Colonized areas in South East Asia along with parts of China. but sometimes the training didn't matter as long as you can shoot and charge at the Enemy with a bayonet or Sword without hesitation then you are a Warrior of Imperial Japanese Land.
@brianthao102 No, chances of survival were better when you fight the Nazi's , Japs were idiots for running into a wave of machine gun fire and flamethrowers..
@sm0keshell you say they were idiots, you probably don't have the courage to die for anything and Dying was the Japanese Way of the Warrior. So live for nothing, or Die for Something.
@MrBigBEARHUNTER Mustang was better, Spitfire was as good as the Zero and the Messerschmitt Me 163 could arse rape any kind of aircraft in that time if it did have a bigger fuel capacity.. so they didn't make the best fighter plane..
@brianthao102 Why wanna throw you're life away cause of some ancient code from a time were people were hanged, burned alive and killed and were people were living in the most terrible conditions you could ever imagine.. Bushido doesn't make any freaking sense, why killing yourself when you lost a battle? I think that's for freaking pussies...
@sm0keshell It was shameful and a Samurai can't stand the Shame of Defeat which they have Dishonored their land and Emperor. so in order to save their Honor they take their own life. So Bushido is the code of the Warrior Samurai. This is a Belief Death before Dishonor for the Japanese. That's why you see Japanese Troops Charge into to Gunfire Yelling "Tenno Heika BANZAI" which means Long live the Emperor.
@brianthao102 Courage. Japs have no courage. If you call Pearl Harbor, Bataan Death, March, Rape of Nanking and the sick shit they just about all over the Pacific and in Asia courage then you may need to look up the meaning of the word. They have no courage or honour.
@AmersfoortTristan WOW look another Historian! Fucking great now i'm in another Argument. The Japanese did what they did and they called that Honor and Courage. The Japanese were great soldiers that fallowed orders and stayed loyal, you can call them Rapist Gooks but who knows, The Japanese soldiers may have a life back in Japan but were Drafted or joined to serve their nation like America, and They did have Honor and Courage to Charge into the Enemy.
@AmersfoortTristan The Japanese were only soldiers who did not question the Emperor's word. I think what they did was Honorable and took the Courage to do it, Invading China or even Bombing Pearl Harbor they did what they did, You should Watch Letters from Iwo Jima and Learn that The Japanese Fallowed *Their* Code Honor and did what they were ordered too.
@sm0keshell Marines Fallow orders without Question, Army fallow orders without Question. So know you're an Anti-War Person? Soldiers are Pawns in a Field, the most important ones sit back on the other end of the Field or are just giving orders. You don't just say "lets invade Okinawa" you are ordered to Take over Okinawa. The Laws of war is like a Chess Board
@brianthao102 I didn't say I don't approve of blindly following orders, in fact if I were one of those important ones I would prefer soldiers like that.. and don't call me anti-war person because thats stupid..
@sm0keshell Well it takes years to Develop the amount of Skill, Strategy, and Responsibility to be the ones commanding plus you are a Higher target they would want to kill because it is always the CO they want to Shoot, Like taking the King in Chess.
@brianthao102 But the Germans were 10 times more skilled in battle. The Germans had pin point accurate artillery. They had top of the notch tanks for their time. They had great weapons, huge numbers. The germans were smart. They may not run at you with swords and bayonets... but they will come at you with artillery, tanks, and MG42s
@FUZZEYMONKEY true the Germans were better Equipped in WW2 but Imagine the Endless Waves of Men Charging at you by surprised and Crashing their Zeros into your Carrier. It was the Brutality on what the Japanese were doing to lives like what they did to US Army POWs. Starvation, Malaria, Beheaded, Mutilation unlike the Germans who would just Take you and Treat you till the End of the War. Soldiers like the Wehrmacht are Easy to Predict in battle.
@brianthao102 Indeed there training and dedication to honor and fighting to the last man was scary but they were also brainwashed by there leader and propaganda that it was better to die than to be captured because it was considered to be dishonorable and plus they also said that the americans were evil giants that would eat babies and torture you to the death (as shown in the video the women giving her baby) so thats why they would rather die.
@LelouchOfJapan So? America made videos of the Japanese to be Buck tooth, Squinted eye monkeys and guess what? they weren't, They were Warriors of Japan all they wanted to do was protect their Land like what Americans would, but they believe that Death was the Way of gaining Eternal Life. the only reason why they did all this is because the Emperor was seen as a god to all Japan. so the japanese did what they were told as Pawns. so they were Warriors under the Imperial Banner.
@LelouchOfJapan Plus the Japanese relate to their code of Bushido(Way of the Warrior) which is connected to the past Warrior Samurai and the term Samurai means to Serve.
@brianthao102 Very true WW2 was a blood bath its just upsetting what the Japanese did to American pows like burning them in air raid shelters and beating and starving them to death or the Baatan death march...but the Americans probably were also bad in some ways as well
@brianthao102 so this so called samurai code tells jap soldiers to wipe out a field hospital or execute ill/wounded men or use civillians as human sheild and using a live prisoner for bayonet practice and other things fuck this code its just facism with another name
@emybaby69 No that is what the Leader tells them to do. Bushido is the Warrior code that the samurai use to be always faithful till they die with honor. The Japanese Soldier only did what the commander said because he thought he did it for the country but not knowing that they were being the invaders. And they didn't use civilians as Human Shields because in WW2 they were charging into the Allies head on. The Civilians thought that the Americans were the invaders and wanted to kill them anyways.
@SniperSurkov really what about the atrocities they commited , speak to vetrans of the pacific and i have more honour than you read history books making pow's build a bridge with little or no food killing ill / wounded pows using them as slaves
using live pow's for bayonet training WHERE'S THE HONOUR
@SniperSurkov The Japanese were an affront to human decency during World War 2, and the fact that you are sitting here defending their actions shows that not much has changed. You are subhuman. P.S. surrender is shame? What does that say about your "glorious" emperor.
Did this ever happen? I've haven't had the time to read his book yet. I know that the Japanese would sometimes shoot their own civilians surrendering to US forces because they thought we would torture them to death. But I have never heard them using civilians as meat shields or strapping bombs to them.
@Royalmerc Strapping bombs, not sure - but it's true they did use the Okinawans as human shields. Not to mention every male of fighting age was also conscripted and went around stealing whatever food was available. Others were coerced/forced into suicide. It seemed that the Japanese never viewed the Okinawans as equal to those in the home islands.
@SuperBomber01 I'd assume that they did strap bombs to civilians, only because I don't think the producers of The Pacific would have been blasé about depicting brutalities that didn't even occur at the risk of causing controversy.
@Aidanownz Hm, I guess that's a good point. Considering the Japanese were enthusiastic with human shields, torturing and mutilating POWs for laughs and giggles, treating local populations like inferior scum etc...after all, the Japanese did view the Okinawans as second-class citizens at the time, and definitely didn't consider them as equal as those living in Japan itself.
the last gentleman on war, was Erwin Romel, he fought like man have to, with respecting and honor, yeah germans were cruel with jewsh , but not like this with civilians,
japanese were worst than germans with okinawa, australia china ans some others,
americans were the same with the atomic bomb, and now jews are the same with palestina....
It's ironic that people are discussing the idea of humanity and civility when at the same time, discussing war.
War itself is not a humane concept. You can't affix civil boundaries to war simply because it's born out of hatred and savagery. A woman blowing herself up is disgusting. Dropping an atomic bomb on a city of civilians is disgusting. Saying something in war is inhumane is like saying water is wet.
@RipYourSpineOut I think she wasn't trying to blow herself up, but was forced to by the Japanese, and so she was hoping to give her baby away so it wouldn't die.
@TheBroDude777 The woman was trying to save her child before she blew up.......The Japs soldiers forced the civilians to be their meat shield against the allies because the Japs knew most allies give mercy to innocent civilians. 150,000 Okinawan civilians got murdered and starved to death for hiding their own food from the Jap soldiers
@xo51xo It's been years since I read With The Old Breed, but I think you're right-- I don't recall a suicide bomber incident. As I recall, outfitting civilians with "suicide vests" wasn't something the Japanese did at all in the island battles, although I think there were plans to do so on the home islands if the invasion had happened. On Saipan and Okinawa the civilians were mostly caught in the crossfire, or pressured into suicide by the Japanese military authorities (esp. on Saipan).
@xo51xo There's a lot of shit in The Pacific which isn't mentioned at all in either men's memoirs. I guess HBO altered some stuff for what they believed would create a "better" mini-series. I just wish they hadn't covered Okinawa in one episode. It's a huge part of Sledge's memoir and a lot of good stuff could of been done with it.
@p1noip0w3r Why are you defending the japs? They were fucking horrible back then. And the funny thing is, Germany (today) admits that there was Nazi injustice and war crimes, Japan still doesn't admit that such crime was ever committed.
Yesterday, the functioning and hopefully future Danish minister of state was handed a baby by a "citizen" during a walkabout and I immediately thought of this scene.
Her "complaint" was that the size of her Ghanese husbands payroll and her welfarecheck made it too expensive for him to visit her and their other four to ten children more than alf a year, without a free citizenship, which was apparently what she was angling for.
This is based on fact- of course. The Japanese military tried to coerce the Okinawan civilians (who are NOT ethnic Japanese!) to rush the Yanks carrying explosives. Caught in between two fires, many Okinawans died.
It's sad to see you kids still trying to fight our grandfathers' war. Grow up and get with the times. People change, times change. We have more important problems to tend to than discussing history. This is how problems never get solved.
Episode 9 of the Pacific was one of the most horrific, gory, and depressing depictions of war I've seen. While I can detect some serious hollywood-isms, I would never know what it was like, because I did not serve there. What I do know is that we are all human, and no matter how evil and dehumanized we can make the other side, there is still a human there. We would not know how we would react unless placed in the same situations... Japanese, German, US citizen, etc.
Tom Hanks and Spielberg insult the Japanese army. Because the scene that Japanese soldiers used citizens of Okinawa as shields was really fake. The fake scene is dirty forgery of the history .Tom Hanks and Spielberg tell lies to flatter the prejudice of the American public.
@Realizeskateboarding Yes - it was cruel and sad :( In some of the Pacific battles of WWII when the Japanese saw no means to win they would give 'speeches' to the natives and locals on the ideals of taking out the enemy than surrendering. In Saipan and in Okinawa there were stories of Japanese officers ordering the natives and locals to arm with bamboo spears or act as 'human' shields as last ditch attempts for Banzai charges ... :(
@RangerCaptain775 I'm not defending Japan but Japan wasn't one of the signatories at the Geneva Convention. But just cuz they didn't sign doesn't give them the right to do all that shit. I'm just correcting your history a little bit
@YoungKoolness17 Hirohito had no control over what happened with Japan during World War 2. Tojo on the other hand was the head of the military leadership in Imperial Japan at that time, so yes, something bad was well deserved for Tojo

@brianthao102 The nazis had a deadly air force and would overrun countrys in weeks.
MrBigBEARHUNTER 1 month ago
@MrBigBEARHUNTER Sure that the only thing that made the Nazis scary was their technology and engineering, but the Japanese Zero was the Fastest airplane in that time. So the Nazi Battle Planes weren't really that great because they saw little Action in WW2 at the time while the Japanese Zero was used in Pearl Harbor and Midway and was the main plane to Kamikaze with. so if i were you, I'd fear the Crazy Japanese pilot with the Zero.
brianthao102 1 month ago
@brianthao102 True. But the nazis had better training. They almost took Britain. But the nazis were not "humane".
MrBigBEARHUNTER 1 month ago
@MrBigBEARHUNTER In japan Training was not that good but they took UK Colonized areas in South East Asia along with parts of China. but sometimes the training didn't matter as long as you can shoot and charge at the Enemy with a bayonet or Sword without hesitation then you are a Warrior of Imperial Japanese Land.

@brianthao102 True. They had the element of surprise, though. But the chinese and polish went through thing I can't even imagine.

I think that's for freaking pussies...
sm0keshell 1 month ago
@sm0keshell They kill as many as they can and kill the wounded to avoid capture.
MrBigBEARHUNTER 1 month ago
@sm0keshell It was shameful and a Samurai can't stand the Shame of Defeat which they have Dishonored their land and Emperor. so in order to save their Honor they take their own life. So Bushido is the code of the Warrior Samurai. This is a Belief Death before Dishonor for the Japanese. That's why you see Japanese Troops Charge into to Gunfire Yelling "Tenno Heika BANZAI" which means Long live the Emperor.

AmersfoortTristan 1 month ago
@AmersfoortTristan WOW look another Historian! Fucking great now i'm in another Argument. The Japanese did what they did and they called that Honor and Courage. The Japanese were great soldiers that fallowed orders and stayed loyal, you can call them Rapist Gooks but who knows, The Japanese soldiers may have a life back in Japan but were Drafted or joined to serve their nation like America, and They did have Honor and Courage to Charge into the Enemy.
brianthao102 1 month ago
@AmersfoortTristan The Japanese were only soldiers who did not question the Emperor's word. I think what they did was Honorable and took the Courage to do it, Invading China or even Bombing Pearl Harbor they did what they did, You should Watch Letters from Iwo Jima and Learn that The Japanese Fallowed *Their* Code Honor and did what they were ordered too.

@FUZZEYMONKEY true the Germans were better Equipped in WW2 but Imagine the Endless Waves of Men Charging at you by surprised and Crashing their Zeros into your Carrier.

LelouchOfJapan 1 month ago
@LelouchOfJapan So? America made videos of the Japanese to be Buck tooth, Squinted eye monkeys and guess what? they weren't, They were Warriors of Japan all they wanted to do was protect their Land like what Americans would, but they believe that Death was the Way of gaining Eternal Life. the only reason why they did all this is because the Emperor was seen as a god to all Japan. so the japanese did what they were told as Pawns. so they were Warriors under the Imperial Banner.
brianthao102 1 month ago
@LelouchOfJapan Plus the Japanese relate to their code of Bushido(Way of the Warrior) which is connected to the past Warrior Samurai and the term Samurai means to Serve.

emybaby69 3 weeks ago
@emybaby69 No that is what the Leader tells them to do. Bushido is the Warrior code that the samurai use to be always faithful till they die with honor. The Japanese Soldier only did what the commander said because he thought he did it for the country but not knowing that they were being the invaders. And they didn't use civilians as Human Shields because in WW2 they were charging into the Allies head on. The Civilians thought that the Americans were the invaders and wanted to kill them anyways.

K3yB04dG000n 3 days ago
Did this ever happen? I've haven't had the time to read his book yet. I know that the Japanese would sometimes shoot their own civilians surrendering to US forces because they thought we would torture them to death. But I have never heard them using civilians as meat shields or strapping bombs to them.
Royalmerc 3 months ago
@Royalmerc Strapping bombs, not sure - but it's true they did use the Okinawans as human shields. Not to mention every male of fighting age was also conscripted and went around stealing whatever food was available. Others were coerced/forced into suicide. It seemed that the Japanese never viewed the Okinawans as equal to those in the home islands.
SuperBomber01 3 months ago
@SuperBomber01 I'd assume that they did strap bombs to civilians, only because I don't think the producers of The Pacific would have been blasé about depicting brutalities that didn't even occur at the risk of causing controversy.
Aidanownz 2 months ago
@Aidanownz Hm, I guess that's a good point. Considering the Japanese were enthusiastic with human shields, torturing and mutilating POWs for laughs and giggles, treating local populations like inferior scum etc...after all, the Japanese did view the Okinawans as second-class citizens at the time, and definitely didn't consider them as equal as those living in Japan itself.

Saying something in war is inhumane is like saying water is wet.

xo51xo 4 months ago
@xo51xo It's been years since I read With The Old Breed, but I think you're right-- I don't recall a suicide bomber incident. As I recall, outfitting civilians with "suicide vests" wasn't something the Japanese did at all in the island battles, although I think there were plans to do so on the home islands if the invasion had happened. On Saipan and Okinawa the civilians were mostly caught in the crossfire, or pressured into suicide by the Japanese military authorities (esp. on Saipan).
neckronn99 4 months ago
@xo51xo There's a lot of shit in The Pacific which isn't mentioned at all in either men's memoirs. I guess HBO altered some stuff for what they believed would create a "better" mini-series. I just wish they hadn't covered Okinawa in one episode. It's a huge part of Sledge's memoir and a lot of good stuff could of been done with it.
