This music is Ottoman and Arabic inspired... who the hell is saying China? Doesn't make sense. I'm half Arab and half Turk and this doesn't sound chinese whatsoever.
Its actually Celtic and the Celts migrated all over the world, even red headed Celtic remains are being found in China, Indo-European.
Anatolia was once first known as Galatia before the Turks invaded and raped and pillaged and murdered everyone and have attempted like much of the race mixed invaders of Asia Minor at a poor attempt of Racial and Cultural mimicry.
Agreed. I'm Turk and this song includes Persian, Arab, Turkish motifs. Maybe Celts but Persian violin is different I can hear it. Whatever I like ethnic music :)
@AnimePresident Us Greeks are not that much better, since we judge every human being on this planet that does not speak Greek.... The skyladika YOU listen to are heavily based on Turkish music, you know... And after all, this half Turk assumed no excellency of the Turkish race, he/she merely pointed out the non existent relationship of this music to Chinese music. Relax your sphincter, man
Great Turkish sounds, it perfectly reflects the melodies of eastern mediterraenean culture of Turkey, and of course respect for this awesome performance by Loreena McKennitt. Simply amazing, take you to somewhere else...Looking forward to visit Aegean/Western Mediterraenean parts of Turkey again a.s.a.p. Unique atmosphere, great beaches, lovely people, and one of a kind Turkish cuisine.
this is a türkisch melody..i was a little girl my daddy played it with a türkish guitar and his friend with drums...it means a lot for me...ty for sharing this wonderfull sound.
Loreena has a real wonderful unique way. This piece is typical Egyptian belly dancing music and tunes, I am Egyptian and I am sure of that, I wonder if she ever lived here to be able to get that intense feeling of the Egyptian music
For as long as I can remember our family as had a wind up music box with a Sufi dancer on top. The background melody in this song is the actually the song that the music box plays. I heard this song last year and was overwhelmed with memories of when we would play with that music box as kids....
OK... Loreena's song is based on Sufism? My bad... I always associate Sufism with Shams and his Islamic teachings and the Dance of the Planets, which is mostly drums. I stand corrected. You're right, the Sufi do feel music is all around us, (birds and crickets sing; ocean waves are rhythmic; and when God "breathed" life into the first man, actually, He "sang" life into the first man) and so, music is in our souls from God Himself and therefore, OK (Oll Korrect).

Her songs are the reason i started to play the violin, piano, irish tin whistle, and soon, the harp ^_^ i am only 12 and i am like "HEY, Loreena Mckennitt plays this instrument and sings to it, i want to learn to play it." LOL!
@EJAXK13 sounds so middle eastern so arabian can't you see yourself riding across the desert sands on some camels with a turban wrapped around your head with bags full of gold? can't you see that shit man!?!
If I could hit Like a hundred times, I would. This is one of my favorite Loreena McKennit songs... that and t he Mummer's Dance. She does some really COOL music that helps when I'm in need of either relaxing or just simply zoning out.
It also bothers me when people saying rapping is "talking". Just because it isn't singing doesn't mean it is just talking. I'd like to see 90% of people rap the way the big boys (and girls) do it~
Listen, Rap IS actual music. Every individual has different preferences with music. Respect other people`s preferences, enjoy Loreena`s beautiful music, and stop criticizing people just because they like something different.
@thiocilline yes! one of the most grand, and adventurous also! whenever i hear this music, i think of the splendor of the old kingdoms that once existed in ancient persia. or of rogues and assassins running across rooftops! and when a vocal is sung, it adds so much emotion with the arabic sounds in the background. like you can feel the opression of the draught and corruption stricken land. so amazing!
@bleujae1 loldid u played a lot prince of persia ? :) but yes true..mostly to me the ottoman harems the palaces of Istanbul and bagdat , the 1001 night tales comes to my mind... ladies dancing half naked under the lights of candles , many scents mixed with each other vanillin, amber, rose... hunky guys at the doors and tryng not to seduce by these belly dancers, sorceres and fortune tellers at the palaces, :) lol its turns into emannuel series lol

ok I will share my opinion, first of all i think it's useless to fight about wheather rap is or isn't music compared to Loreena's. I love Loreena with all my heart, and even she accepts the musical variety, and we can see that in her songs. In my opinion, her music is not to everyone but to those who can share with other genres, for example i hate techno music and heavy metal but i must admit that some songs move me, so i admit that eventhough i hate that genre there are some good songs there!.

who the hell could dislike this? why the hell would you come here in the first place if you're that idiotic and ignorant to what real music really is?!
I lisen to alot of music includeing rap I am a teen..And most of the people I attend school with do not like this kind of music or anything classical..Wich also sets me apart from alot of my friends and school mates.but she has a amazing voice.
@MrMichapalooza Try Vangellis (composer of many sound tracks to films like 1492 Conquest of pardise or Last of the Mohecans), or Clannad, "theme from Harry's game". Anggun is Indonesian and she sings mostly in French & wow what a voice, "Snow on a desert" is beautiful. Good luck and Happy New Year!
some ignorants wrote that its celtic,it has definitely ottoman sufist style rhytms.although i like loreena she has to inform her audiences and followers about backgrounds and stories for each piece of music
@massimodut When the CD was released there was a booklet with it. She tells of her experiences whilst travelling through that region, meeting local people and being moved by their skill and traditional style of music. She lamented the fact that we in the west have lost these skills, She is a Celt, an amazingly talented Harpist/ Vocalist & using tradional regional influences with Her Celt? Gaelic style. A very international Irish artist. She did explain. Peace my friend, She unites us with music

@massimodut well I have to sort of disagree. The title of this song is called Marco Polo & the album is called Book of Secrets. Although she is known for "Celtic" music doesn't mean she should have to instruct her fans - who should just take the time to consider more than the instrumental qualities. It's my understanding that this song reflects the explorer Marco Polo & his travels in journeying to parts of Asia; ergo the very non-traditional Celtic style of the music.
@massimodut In the CD booklet Loreena indeed says she has interwoven an authentic Sufi melody. Some ignorants don't buy the CD and say that Loreena doesn't inform her audiences correctly.
@massimodut , Ignorant people are ignorant. If they wanted to know what they were talking about they could always do a bit of reasearch out of respect... its a shame people disgrace themselves by babbling garbage.
@massimodut Doesn't she? I thought she said in an interview that she finds a musical connection between celtic and the middle east and likes to play with that. I know I read that somewhere...
This is music on his purest.

africangoddess707 1 year ago
@africangoddess707 - It's to whom the song was inspired by.

@africangoddess707 Probably referring to the explorer Marco Polo who traveled to asia. His journey lasted 24 years.

@massimodut She actually does. Extensively! And if you read about it, you'll find it is, in fact, Celtic, one way or another. ;)
