  • Sounds fun :)

  • how much money do a game designer get payed

  • @smallfire65 approximately 68,000 a year.

  • hey my name will be in a game someday i cant w8 for thst day to come

  • 3:55 The Nintendo Wii caters everyone...now I know why I don't buy Wii games from EA.

  • Comment removed

  • I could be wrong. But isn't he completely alone in that room?

    haha

    Regardless - Thanx for this.

  • i m still in school and what do you need to be a game designer

  • @MACoverZ1 Well, the thing I know is that,in Norway you can go to a school called public college, and we can study inside the gaming world and learn to make games, test them out and stuff,

  • What about Gabe Newell?

  • What kind of classes and grades do I need to get into gamedesign.

  • @MrGregman101 I'm going to AI and my major is Game Art & Design. You have to put together a portfolio which demonstrates your basic knowledge of art, composition, life drawing and how well you can draw humans. You also need at least a 3.0 GPA. You have to enroll in the Media Arts & Animation major until you can meet the portfolio requirements. I got my entire portfolio from my work in Typography 1, Fundamentals Of Observational Drawing and Fundamentals Of Design.

  • Ughhh 9 more years !

  • @starstruck9951 Thats right little kid.

  • @starstruck9951 Get Maya or some other modeling program and start learning now. Nothing says you can't make videogames all by yourself. YouTube has all the tutorials you could ever need. Literally type in your question and most likely someone has posted a DIY with your answer. It's hard work but it will still be hard in 9 years.

  • Would it matter that im realy bad at maths? I could probably get the minimal maths degree but will that make me less apealing?

  • @MrMachinimator You really need to be good at maths to do most stuff that's computer related. Especially programming because that's 99% maths.

  • @BenCorroon I was thinking about script writting. Im also good at graphic and level design. I suppose it shouldnt be a problem if i just get practicing maths now

  • also can i be a Game Designer even i stutter? (speech problem)

  • but im pretty sure not all game designer have a job in US "Recession"

anyway can i ask? im planning to take Game Design and Development here in Philippine.. my question is how can i apply to ex. Activision. EA, IW etc..

  • I don't care who i work for i just want to do it. xD

  • Making apps is also fun to learn. look at the guy who made angry birds. He is a millionaire.

  • if this video is circulating on YouTube of the vercion of battlefield3 xbox360 is with this resolution graphics of the game is a failure at least in my personal opinion I hope will be an alpha game because if not claimed on my invested money to preorder this game review the video circulating on youtube go to their own opinion ...

  • EA fucking suck, so many games given to them they have ruined and they are money greedy

  • im 10 and i wanna design video games

  • @3101paulkim Practice as hard as you can from now and you'll do well.

  • @DEADDUCKGAMES me too :D

  • Wait so I can apply to them as a programmer right? Or what else is there relating to computing can I do apart from programming to be in the development of video games with ea?

  • @AusmineMc 1. Ideas comes to me, like "out of the blue".

    2. My boyfriend's cousin have got a program, to make games. I love drawing, love designing, and making games is, as I've already told, my passion ;)

  • Anyone interested in quality soundscenes for your games inbox me. i do all genres at great prices :)

  • My biggest wish is to become a game designer. I'm right now working on my first game, with my friend, and possibly also my boyfriend. I'm 13 years old, and I'm a girl, who loves playing. I'm going to design the characters, and the surroundings in the game, and that's what my passion is! Will I have any chances to make my wish come true?

  • @SarahGoesGames well depending On what you do..... Do idea's come to you like out of the blue.

i have been working on many SDK's to make maps and can help you there a bit but i need to know first that you

are creative in idea's.. and if you wish to design the characters, and the surroundings in the game you need something to make them work so you will need a programer so if your boyfriend dose this well this is great but if not well you need to find someone that dose... get back to me

  • Can somebody please comment back on my question. What does a game developer do? 2.

  • @mugoeskylar Hello,

I cannot presume to tell you in a post what game developers do. This subject is huge, but I would start by looking at the teams. There are SLT's, which manage the project, design teams which create game-play and much more, Programmers for scripting, A.I. and game software, art teams for aesthetics and creating assets, writers for story development and more, sound engineers for audio needs, and play-testers for QA. This does not even begin to describe this question though.

  • Okay guys message me any technical questions you have with game engines, graphics, artstyle, tricks and tips, algorithms of various basic games such as tetris, mario, I've got those knowledges.

  • EA has really amazing artists, just sayin

  • "EA" stands for "Enormous Assholes"

  • @feeuqretsam hahahaahahahahahah nice1 !

  • I been playing video games since I was 5.I can't wait till I get to college.So I can be major in game designing.btw I'm 15

  • @Tronnixx The thing is, do you want to create a compelling narrative, with lovable, hatable, or neutrally moral characters?

Do you want to design all this, and a new innovative gameplay feature?

  • @HRHippieRanger gameplay feature,designs?of course

  • @Tronnixx we're on the same boat =)

  • For everyone wanting to create games just realize that it is not all glory and fun times. Rather it is countless hours of sitting down pulling out your hair over the same repetitive tasks. This does not mean it is not rewarding but that it is not what many people think it is. If you like working for long hours and weeks on end tweaking vertices on meshes then you might make it. Or you can do a lot of writing by game testing or being a writer (for the story). Good Luck all.

  • @danewheeler

So true. I always thought I wanted to design games until I found out what it was like. Thats why I chose to be a character modeler rather then writing waves of code.

  • @Kamagoi4521 Character modeling would be pretty sweet. I am attempting to get into level Design/environment art. I cannot stand coding but I love creating with game engines and playing with 3Ds Max.

  • hello people, I need help I am currently working on a very good and creative story, art, design the game but I do not know who to contact in order to promote my plot .. would be glad to help someone

  • @girooza I cannot help you realize who to send the design to but I can tell you that you will probably need more than that to get your concept looked at. What you want to do is create a Game Design Doc (GDD). Basically, you will need to outline everything from budgets, to gameplay, to well everything needed in the design process. Look up GDD's on the net and this should help you out.

  • @girooza Also, check out UDK it is a free Game Engine from EPIC Games, or even the Unity game engine. These are both free engines and if you can produce a playable level it might show you where flaws are in your game before they have to point it out to you. Plus it will look better and increase your portfolio for them. Good Luck Bud.

  • Thumbs up if the guy made you jump at 00:06!

  • If you love doing graphic stuff then do that because you're 100% sure that you're going to be good at that

  • i just love sims its the best game ever i love it so much i got my mate into playing it and i would love to be a game designer with ea what qulifacations do youu need ?

  • The fuck i want to create a game,im just 12 !

  • My tip as a game designer is to work very hard, learn both basic programming and a 3d modelling program. Making board games is a cheap and fun way to practice your skills. Good luck!

  • @vikingfabian thanks for the advice :) I'm going into Games Design for college this year

  • If you just think to yourself "I'm going to be a game designer" and you have no other experience in making games... You're not going to get anywhere. Game designers don't have to be expert programmers, artists or animators... But they have to know the basics of everything. Just start learning as much as you can in every area of game design.

  • he's that guy talking alone ?

  • @guinasaw haha i think so, when he says "thank you" at the end of the vid, there is no applaus or anything.. he just walks to the camera and stopped recording xD

  • @TheMightyRecom yahp LOL

  • Hey, this is rainbow horror studio's recruitment channel and we are now open to recruitment if you have any skill/talent in art, programming and even just awsome ideas the world just needs to hear leave a message in our channel, thank you!!

  • i wanna test games and come up with ideas my dad is really good at graphic design buy i suck big time auto cad inventor (woUld HELP if i paid attention in class)

  • KOJIMA IS GOD!!!

  • I want to go into game designing because I want to create beautiful scenery, characters, and weapons. The game play is fun, but that is mostly the reason i want to go into it. Is that okay? I'm in a freshy in Highschool at the moment, are there any tips on to getting started early, anything at all I need to know? Should I take lessons on design now?

  • So im curious.. say I dont have a whole lot of computer knowledge but I am creative, write very well, and I like to draw. I am just not certain what I should learn.. I love video games but what does it take..? And are the jobs hard to find where I live? I live in Louisiana btw..It seems like a good line of work for a creative mind and all around gamer.

  • EA prepare to meet me in the near future

  • Oh yeah i am fan of EA STEAM AND VALVE :D

  • mya?

  • im interested in being a game programer... i love playing games and i love to learn how to make them... but i dont have one creative bone in my body... could i still be a game designer?

  • @xBlue741 Of course you could still be a game programmer if you have a real interest of how the game mechanics work but programming is considered fairly hard. Some people adapt more efficiently than others though. Don't let the fact that you feel your not creative enough put you off because these ideas can be developed simply by coming up with ideas for characters, plotlines, environments etc or even by coming up with new building designs (architecture). These can be drawn or brainstormed.

  • hey i wana be a game designer so badly but i dun know wht is the scope in it in india so if there is anyone frm india in game designing thn plz plz plz msg me i jus wana see a path for it........

  • nice, 0 dislikes :)

  • omg, this sounds so interesting. Getting paid to make games....sounds like the life lol

  • This sucks I'm good at art, and a very creative and an abstract person however my game design class requires me to take Programming classes which are exceedingly hard and confusing..I'm half way through the semester and I don't even have the basic concepts of Programming down GRAWR! >:(

  • I want to be a game designer I am 16 ;D..

But I don't know how to get involved I'm this ge designing career am not good with computers but I was trying out the 3ds I thinks that's what is called is basically a program that let's u create games from scratch I got so hooked on it I am pretty good with math and I am okay at drawing I messed up my early years so I won't be going to university instead am going to a community college which would be long city college haha any tips on how to pursuit m

  • @suicideredemption1 i dont think you can be game designer because you 16 littlebit young:p i think you need 18 or 25 before you can be game designer becuase ppl on ea must trust you and you believe they should

  • @suicideredemption1 but a book on how to program in C++, then read away and good luck

  • @suicideredemption1 Refering to how you want to be a game-designer. I was told when I was 16 to write down every idea you have, go out and find game level editors can create your own maps. Get into a programming language, even if its like Java which is free. Just anything to show that you are capable and willing to learn and understand video games at their core, rather than just enjoying the finished content.

  • I am currently studying Game's design at my local college in England and I think it is vital that your reasoning for choosing this career path is not just based on the fact that you enjoy playing games but that you enjoy the design elements, the creativity and the fact that you want to learn more in depth within the industry. You've got to be willing to learn and enjoy what your doing. So many people choose this course simply because they like playing games which shouldn't be the case.

  • @TheJuicyPoo

But, it all comes from you enjoying playing a game before all that, so i'd say, enjoying a game itself help a lot and eventually, people will learn, i am sure all those who work inside the EA all started just by playing games before going deep into it

  • @TheJuicyPoo yea completly true but those guys are not competition for us ;) so let them waste there time

  • @TheJuicyPoo Nice name dude

  • @TheJuicyPoo I love playing games but i have a passion about being a game desginer , im 13 years old and it is a dream to me. I LOVE being creative and im very imagnitive. What do you think ?

  • @KanesStudio I think you should stick with it!!! I'm 20 and just starting to realize you can do anything you want if you truly have a fire passion for it. I've had that dream since i was 4, back playing SNES. I'm now moving to WA state and going to start my schooling for it. Keep your dream alive, maybe ill catch ya on a team one day XD

  • @TheJuicyPoo of course it should. thats silly. it should start from a LOVE of games. if you dont have that you'll never succeed

  • @HotPocketsBoy not true lots of game designers do this for the LOVE of money :P i lurrrrv muneh

  • @peggyninja yea but i was replying to da dude at the top of the page who says that ppl simply pick this career becuz they JUST love games and that it shouldnt be the case. I mean what? that has to be the number 1 reason why you want to be a game desgner beucz u love games!

  • @HotPocketsBoy I think people may have misunderstood what I said. what I mean is that yes of course you should like games and play them on a regular basis in order to get an understanding in the world of gaming and what rules apply. You are 100% correct here but all I'm saying is this shouldn't be the ONLY reason you choose game design as a career path. At least have an interest in how the games work and use that as a stepping stone.

  • @TheJuicyPoo your a genius. so whats up you made a game yet? AM WAITING!

  • @HotPocketsBoy "I am currently studying Game's design", now read that again and tell me what you thought that meant. That he/she is already in the design comapany creating a game? No, that he is studying to become one. A game also takes alot of time. What he says is 100% true.

  • @TrueDestined now read that again and tell me what you thought that meant.

^ really? you must not have a lot of friends. you dont have to be in a huge game company to make a video game. everyone knows this. you can do it yourself with other people. Minecraft? Zombie Estate? all indie games. thats how you get in the industry. start making games now so companies see your skill. Now go back to playing world of warcraft and drinkin code red ya hobo

  • @HotPocketsBoy you must really think you know everything. well sorry to burst your bubble, you don't. We all know to produce games gives a way better chance to get into the games industry. But it comes along very rarely when someone makes a good successful game on their own, i.e minecraft. so you should't expect everyone to make one. Plus seeing as you 'know so much', ill be waiting for a game you've released.

Oh and also, i think WOW is a piece of shit. Stop trying to cover up ur own addictions

  • @TrueDestined lmao am not even in school for game design. but what is this about tho? i wasnt even replying or having a chat with you on these comments and you come flying out of nowhere. all i said was if dude made a game and you come flying in like captain save a ho. Yes you can make games if you want RIGHT NOW. Indie Games are very popular and big gaming companies look at who is creating them. that is a fact.

  • @HotPocketsBoy lol, you made it personal by saying you must not have any friends. your the one that took it too far. i was only stating that hes studying games design so he will not have created some amazing game for quite some time to come. and when you called that guy a genious, and saying that your waiting for his game to be released, from then i said that its a work in progress in other works, nothing will be out soon most probably and what he spoke of earlier, was the truth.

  • @TrueDestined lol were going back and forth about someone we don't even know. this is so stupid lol

  • @HotPocketsBoy ok m8 lets call truce.

  • @TheJuicyPoo MY motivation would be that the more games I play the less I like them because they repeat the same mistakes over and over - does that count? I want to unleash more of the medium's potential because I love it, yet it's not being understood by many, even among those who create games.

  • @TheJuicyPoo Im an average student in High School currently and not that great at math. But I love Games and I want to bring my ideas in gameing to life. But Idk what classes I should take when I get to college and I dont even know that its really for me because I am not doing well in school but I think thats mostly because Im not interested. But Im SO much interested in Gaming and dont know what to do. I'd love to hear your opinion; good or bad.

  • @TRSkittle ya same dude, i dont have any grades for highschool but i can promise i will do my best when im at the course :)

  • @thetrialshot Dude you should just work harder at school. The more effort you put into school, the easier it will be to get a proper degree and not go on one of these dosser college courses in game design that require no qualifications. It's much, much better to work hard at school and go on to do a degree than to go to go to one of these phoney courses where 1% of people end up getting a job in the games industry.

  • @BenCorroon i mean i have grades ofcourse lol

    its not that high..

im good at computer but not that good in math..

  • @BenCorroon well sir do we need to be good in drawing skills to be a game designer?

  • @thetrialshot

Well Maths is very important when writing code for almost any part of a game. Think about it,

For example: The random spray of bullets from a shotgun. You'd have to devise some kind of formula setting bounds for the shotgun spread, the number of bullets, how far away from eachother the mimimum can be. Also when you're working with map designing you need to understand vectors and graphs to get shapes for objects.

  • @BenCorroon

No you don't need to be good at drawing.

I'm not a game designer, I just read a lot around the subject btw. And the approach to take is one of common sense, rather than 'Ooooh, let's make games sooo fun'. Because you'd never get into an industry so competetive with the wrong attitude towards it. You really need to be at the top of the pile (Good Universities, good grades etc) to get a proper job in such a competetive and skilled area.

  • @BenCorroon It's only not very competetive. There's a lot of ask for game designers. I'm also reading a lot about the subject. But it depends if you want to make a lot of money, or just standard, normal payment.

  • @BenCorroon I'm currently taking art foundations, and I'm doing a BA in Animation with a minor in painting, but I want to be a game designer. In order to begin in game design, what is the best course of action? What colleges do you recommend?

  • @yukiplus I'm not a game designer! Or an expert.

All I did was research some jobs in the software industry.

Sorry I don't know. I was told that if you want to work in programming in any industry, you need to do a University degree in Computer science, Get work experience and then A Job.

It's probably different with art and Animation. So, sorry I can't help you. Good luck though.

  • @TRSkittle ALL jobs in this industry require very high level qualifications. This means that you will have to work hard to become an above average student. You should focus on maths, and try and do a degree in computer science at a top university. This is the best way and perhaps the only way into the industry. All game designers say that you should not do college courses in game design because they are low qualifications and are generally for people who just like to play games.

  • @BenCorroon most game designers got into the industry before technology was where its at, most i have asked told me i was on the right track with my degree in game design, and getting my bachelors in animation will help out a lot compared to someone with no schooling.

  • @CWScott24

Degree, oh right. In England we call what you call college : University. And College over here means the place that you go when you're 16. I suppose a degree in game design is well specified, but unfortunately the best universities don't do it since it's such a popular career choice. It'll be difficult to get straight into a Game Design Job, so I plan to do CS degree, then get some kind of job writing software, which should branch out well into any industry (perhaps games dunno)

  • @BenCorroon thats about the same over here too, lol

  • @CWScott24

Yeah the thing I have a problem is. 99% of the people going into the courses when they're sixteen for game design just like to play games and have no actual career aspirations or motivation to work hard, otherwise they would be trying to get into university to do a degree in game design or any computer related course.

  • @TheJuicyPoo nice name... :)

  • @TheJuicyPoo i understand but getting that motivation of wanting to be in the industry all beginnings with playing video games thats how you get your passion for the industry

  • OMG, i soooo want to do this..:)

  • wow! never seen game designing be pitched in such a boring and monotonous fashion.

  • @siphr00 If you thought that was boring, it's probably not the best career for you.

  • @fize4ever eh? How did you reach that conclusion? I am quite happy in this field. All I am saying is that if you want to learn something valuable about game design you should be checking lectures/sessions for legends like Miyamoto, Will Wright, Sid Miere and the like. Not this guy.

  • @siphr00 Aha, I see. Thought you were just another noob that thinks it is extremely amazing to witness a dude who makes video games, like me...

    My bad.

  • @fize4ever what part of game design you are doing at the moment?

  • @Elmaffo2008 Nothing really, I'm a web dude. Planning to move up to the game field once I'm established as a web designer and developer.

  • I'm 16 and have played so many games and have a passionate love for them.

I would love to be a game designer.

In school I do art and technology and design I'm really good with art I an a really good at drawing and I can come up with great ideas for designs and I'm quite good at maths but lake skill in English ( story and writing) and I have no experience in programming and not much with computers.

Can I have a career in the game industry with good design and art and maths skills alone, I

  • I'm in college for this field; and I love it! It's hard, but so rewarding when you're finished.

  • Im working on an Big shoting game , atm 3D made with Unity 3D pro and i dont really know what i shoudl do next .

  • i'm 18 and i'm pretty ok at drawing And I love video games, but I'm not sure where I should start? I dont have any experience with the programs :/

  • @bcount1 that's what training, and school is for

  • I am pursuing video game design and production at International Academy of Design and Technology. I am great at drawing, modeling in Maya, etc. I am so overwhelmed with information and exceeding in these programs so quick that I am wondering where I should apply for my internship? I am in Seattle Washington.

  • i have such good game ideas my head might explode

  • I've got strong maths skills, good graphics editing skills, I'm amazed at how people develop the graphics of the game; the texture of the characters, the realism of graphics and etc etc. But I'm not a good gamer. Should I be a game designer?

  • @SlurpSilencer I have no say in this, but i would guess so, math and graphic editing skills isnt easy to learn, but gaming is... so i think you might hvae a shot on this one... i guess! :D

  • There is more to game designing than this. A game designer has to understand the limitations of the machine and budget.

  • @hectichorse I have the same situation but where do I begin after high school

  • @MrLiam55555 I'm pretty much the same as you except I can draw decent and have a good knowledge about computers, the only thing I'm lacking is knowing how to work the game making programs. All my advice is to you is try and get a course that I'm trying toy get where you learn to design games, then slowly work your way up the food chain and tell the boss your ideas. Then everything should hopefully take off from there.

  • i cant draw and im not that good with computers.....but i have alot of ideas..

  • @MrLiam55555 Looks like you be better at doing novels then. Because Game Designers have to be able to draw good, write good and be good with computers. Also have to work well with others.

  • @MrLiam55555 Yeah, I am the same way. What job would that be? The writer?

  • @Geocybix thats what i thought aswell...

  • I cant ait to become a game designer!

  • this is helpful

  • Here My Programe I made When I Was 11 Year Old

  • Im just wondering, gamedesigning do u need to know how to draw??

  • @Predatorsilenthunter The best designers out there know a mix of everything.

You don't have to be a whiz-kid in everything, just know the basics of 3D Modelling, Drawing, Programming(C++ and Java.), Color mixes etc...

Also, good candidates will have excellent Analytical and Problem solving skills.

Sometimes, Companies will prefer people with a Law, Investment Banking or Management Consulting background over those traditionnal history majors taking extra-classes for these obvious reasons.

  • @Predatorsilenthunter some schools will want to look at a portfolio but there are schools out there like the iadt that start from the basics like teaching you to draw shade and the anatomy of the body. working everything from A-Z. im currently attending for my game production degree whichs leaves a door open a little on the part of the industry i would like to apply myself. A good idea would be to browze companys you like and see what there job req's are and shoot for it.

  • Shoot!! iam torn!!!

when he was talking about targeting your audience i thought about it and i don't know whi i want for my idea.it seems like a mix between hardcore and casual.

  • im 13 what is this

  • @pditie THIS... IS... SPARTA!!!!

  • @pditie hi doctor Hadley!

  • Im 13 what classes in middle school and high school do i need to take that will help me in the future

  • @notAduck1 computer science

  • great lecture.

  • nice speech. It really help me decide what to do, thanks.

  • I'm 13 and I wanna be able to create games that people can play but I'm in middle school and don't know much plz help I love games and I would like to be able to create I even have ideas of games and a few movies... I wrote in a notebook but I don't know where to start I don't know how to make movies don't know how to make games but I would can anyone tell me what carrier to take where can I start like how do u make onlin game iPod games.

  • @jlopez0o i have the same problems im 13 i have idea 4 games but im not sure if thier good or am i making the right career choice its either this or become some kind of doctor idk

  • @badchyck5 i found this online where u can make games its a little hard cuz u need to learn about Lua and c++ and java script but i was locking on tutorials for it its called unity dowload and go to youtube and put unity 3d tutorial and u will find some good help that will teach you about c++ and stuff and help u make ur first games

  • @jlopez0o well I've been looking into the industry since I was 10 (16 now though) and all I can say is this. KEEP THAT NOTEBOOK. Keep brainstorming ideas, keep creating interesting concepts and find out what makes a great game great. At that age there is little you can do as a recognised games design diploma is only achievable from college (university in the UK) or a TIGA diploma.

At your current age there's little you can do beyond honing your ideas :) make a design document later on good luck

  • @thatguywhopwns Thx :D and i got another note book and 2 drawing books so yeah...

  • @jlopez0o try using game maker.

  • I'm really hoping to be a game artist, you know, the people who actually make up what the characters and backgrounds look like, but I think it'd be cool to be able to program some of it, too.. Are you able to do both, or are you only able to work in one field when making a game?

  • sticky notes 12:15

  • @gfaithw cheers.

  • Sorry EA but spore wasnt that great. The creature creation was cool, and everything was fine until the space part, it was just.. boring afterwards.

  • Im 13 and i helped make a game check out omuni online channel
