Those who purchased a few LP's 35-45 years ago were buying a piece of a Musical Renaissance. As profound as the Great Art of the 16th Century and the Great Classical Music of the 18th Century. Hundreds of years from now this music will be viewed exactly that same way. We complain how the music of the present weakly imitates and has no substance. A fool's folly! The best Artists of the 20th Century Music Renaissance can not be duplicated any more easily than Mozart or the Sistine Chapel..
After the Beatles, the Action were the most impressive band signed to EMI by George Martin during the mid-'60s. That they never managed to chart a single in the space of two years with the label, even as lesser bands sold tens of thousands of records with seemingly no effort, is one of those great ironies of mid-'60s English rock & roll. Late in 1967, still eager to pursue their new sound, the Action added keyboard player Ian Whiteman.then became mighty baby.
One of my all-time favorite songs.....used to put it on as a lullabye during my high school days in the 70s. Nothing sounds like this.....wonderful, enigmatic. Pure magic.
These guys were my favourite band of that time. I got to see them live many times and particularly remember their double set at the Isle of Wight festival with an especially groovy and delightful extended version of this song. Roger Powell was the best rock drummer on the scene and sadly underrated.
Both sets by MB at the Isle of Wight 1970 were filmed by Murray Lerner's crew but none of the material made it to the final cut of the documentary. I remember the cameraman all over the stage on top of the musicians. I know they did a great job shooting the other acts..witness the brilliant filming of Miles Davis set there. Maybe Lerner still has the footage of MB.

Saw them plenty of times in the late 60's early 70's, no matter who was on the bill these guys blew everybody away.
Certainly the best thing ever to come out of NW5.

I love Mighty Baby! It's terrific how many music they left. They appeared on solo record by The Action singer Reg King. It's amazing LP!

I hung out and played with Martin in London in the late 70's - what a great guy- totally on a different plane .

Ah, Martin Stone, fine respected guitarist. Has also handled some fine First Edition books being a book dealer also.

Hey rogkeista I remember that too. I was at the Isle of Wight, what a great set from MB and what a great time that festival was. It's never left me.

If you remember the MB set, then do you remember the set being filmed?
It was caught on film.
