Wow ur really good ur voices blend perfectly! I would have chosen some diffrent staging though but that's never the actors fault! U look so naturil at playing Jamie keep doen what u are doing :D
W-O-W...you really are blessed with a gorgeous voice. Fantastic portrayal of Jamie! :D Are you trained or training in musical theatre? I'm at a theatre school at the moment, will audition for a college in London in a few years, hopefully! :P
The thing that's kinda tough about this show is the desire to sing everything pretty and to try and sound good. the brilliance in JRB's work is that he already made it everything that it needs to be. So when singing this material you really want to almost speak sing and give more to the lyrics than to the notes. yes you still want to sound good but you want to showcase the lyrics Not your own voice. i had the same problem too. you got a good voice but your kathy wasn't all that great
hey! i am a freshman musical theatre major. i was wondering what college you both attended? i dont know if you will ever respond back to this, but i just stumbled upon this video and i am curious to know where you studied. this song sounds beautiful in your voice, by the way! keep on studying, you have a gorgeous voice.
thanks so much, and I wish you all the best with your audition, I would so love to do this whole show! where is the show you're auditioning for? (don't worry, I won't be auditioning, just curious, cause I'd love to see this show live some time and am always trying to find out where it's being put on)
Hi. I'm auditioning for a London production of it to be performed late May. I'm really excited about possibly being part of it. Good luck with your singing - you're pure quality! x
Whether or not you two reply to this or not I just have to say this is a beautiful performance. This is what Youtube is all about. I'm auditioning for Jamie on Wednesday and this is now my point of reference... thanks guys... great performance. :)
are they in high school? that kid has a GREAT voice. however, i do agree with the rest of y'all- the acting was not as strong as it could have been; the girl looks like she's in pain right at the transition from jamie to cathie. and WHAT THE BLAST was that electric guitar BLARING in that transition? oh, the HIDEOUSNESS!
Wow, this was amazing! I think you've captured Jamie spot on, and your singing is excellent, particularly the last note which I know is difficult. What school is this? And are you a musical theatre major?
I dont' think jamie has a problem at all, his vibrato would have to be completely terrible to take away from the words and story, and so i think that comment was too picky... I love it.
that girl was really good. I would like to see more of her performances. SHe should get together with josh groban and dump that commoner she is with now.
The problem is that Jamie is trying too hard to be different with his vibrato and it ends up being very slow and taking away from the words and story, which are so much more important. And the staging is weird for a scene that is supposed to take place on a boat. Plus a guitar in place of a violin? Please...I am sorry to be so critical, but this is probably one of the best musicals ever written, and one very near to my heart, so I must be.
first, not sure what you're talking about with the "trying too hard to be different", that's how i sing, so... also, as for the staging, yes it is strange in the context of the story, but this was for a musical revue, thus we had just a basic stage that we adapted for different musical numbers. also, we didn't have a violin player so we made due with what we had, which in this case happened to be guitar (which, to be honest, i was never a huge fan of on this song either, but what can you do?)
Jamie, as that's what I'll call you based on you saying that you are the one signing, if it's a revue or not, you guys should a least be next to each other for more than a line or so. And as far as your voice, if you don't watch the video and just listen to the music and your voice, it sounds like your trying to make every line as long and drawn out as possible. Instead, think of the opening as a dialogue between the two, not a solo for yourself. :)
thank you so much to you and everyone else for your comments, i am incredibly flattered and glad that you enjoyed this, it's one of my favorite songs that i've ever sung
omg that was great. and ur hot. lol. i have a great attraction to guys who sing musicals. And ur one of the best i've ever seen. nice job! I luv this musical.
both of your movements were too deliberate... it was like, okay now i'm on my mark and i'm stopping and staring at her, now i'm spinning in a circle, now i'm standing still. make it natural, not rehearsed looking because that's when i yawn and check the time and rustle the playbill.
The guy has an especially nice voice- a bit like Gavin Creel. The girl would sound better if she would support more and be in tune, but nice job both.
yeah just a direction note, i hate it when ppl sing upstage! it's like...um...the audience is behind you...lol but yeah beautiful singing both of you.
just a direction note, i hate it when people restrict themselves just because of so-called rules of theater. Black box theaters are so personal and small you can use things like facing away from the audience in order to add to the artistic aspect of the show. Cathy: Faces away from audience so she sees only jamie. Jamie: Faces towards Cathy and audience, he sees Cathy and also Everyone Else... kind of goes along with the plot.
that was... beautiful. you two had chemistry which is really hard to find with some performers. i agree with some other comments she went flat but I felt she had more power locked inside of her. But still, she did great, just needs to support a little more.
Jamie was wonderful, he had a very different sounding tone than NLB did, and I liked that deep sound that jamie's voice was for the role and the song.
You both have an amazing voice! One thing that really bothered me though was nothing that involved you two, it was more of a directors note but it's supposed to be a two person show and then they put in a 3rd person... But like I said nothing that involved you two, you guys were perfect together.
thank you so much, glad you enjoyed it. just to respond to your other comment, i thought it was awkward too putting that 3rd person in, but since this was part of a revue, it was to transition from this piece to the next, because the next one was a solo by her, so this was just an easy way to smooth out that transition, at least that was the reasoning
Is there a reason why this song was edited? You guys did a great job, but what happened to "I am not always on time..." Ending was rough, but that part is hard. I've performed this before...can't wait until you both are fully grown with matured voices - that will be wonderful.
this was a part of a musical revue and that section was edited out because it didn't really make sense when this number was just done on it's own, so our director decided to cut it
