You need the mask anytime. To get it into your head, a friend who was my age, he was playing around with his friend with foil, and poked him in the eye, accidentally, pretty much doing what you are now, I think. Killed instantly. Food for thought,
@Filflam3214 What have you posted on YouTube that's better? Are you merely a mooch that complains when a free gift, with the best intentions, isn't good enough?
ni masque ni gants, position de garde mauvaise, les mains ne sont jamais en suppination, et sa contre-attaque démarre bien avant l'attaque elle-même. " expert" ?
I have never gotten stabbed below my knees, whenever somebody aims for there they always find the target missing, and a blade in their back. Going for the legs is bad since you leave yourself wide open, and your opponent can easily move their legs out of the way.
Thinking the art of swordmanship as recalling what have read. Someone once mentioned that the most decisive movement wasn't adopted until nearing the end of that age of weaponry.
I think you'll find she explicitly states (0.34-0.50) the importance of wearing a mask *when fencing* and that it's only because she and her partner are doing a slow, rehearsed, move that she isn't wearing one.
@enfielddnepr I think the oversimplifications (which annoyed me also) have less to do with where she's from and more to do with an inaccurate assumption that people watching the video won't understand a more comprehensive explanation. My coach is American, and she always provides demonstrations and feedback on a clear and sophisticated level.
The only time I think the foot is a good target is when your opponent goes for a high attack and do a back foot lunge to bring yourself beneath their blade.
Or you try to attack their wrist and they move it out of the way, you carry on down to the foot.
I was told that foot are always second intention. Try it first intention and you will almost certainly end eating the other guys epee, either with a hit to the arm, upper chest o mask. The last one being the worst because you always end looking stars =).
Then whoever told you didn´t know what he´s talking about. Hitting the foot is never second intention, because the foot is far too difficult to hit right after you´ve tried something like a lunge to the chest. If you have found out, however, that your opponent always tries to parry your attack, you can easily attack the foot if you make a feint towards the chest first. I personally like to score my first point on the opponents foot, as he´s not likely to expect that.
True, but I find that if a fencer is good/confident enough, they go for the foot on first intention sometimes. It happens to me all the time, though I'm a flippin awesome fencer so I can use my ninja moves to dodge and counter.
True on the foot, but the upper leg however is a good second choice to hit. It's a way bigger target and actually harder to move away from a vulnerable position.
Hitting the foot is not done when the opponent forgets to withdraw his foot. Otherwise there would be no hits on the foot on a higher fencing level. In most cases, you make a feint attack towards the opponents arm or shoulder and when he attempts to parry, you hit the foot.
I'd recommend aiming at a higher target, the foot is not practical. It leaves the hand, arm, and face open to a counter attack. The shoulder and elbow are the best targets to attack. The hand is also a prime target, but only if it's exposed.
Dang girl, there are too many things wrong with this video. I'm sure you love fencing, but you best not be teachin' if this is how you do it. Eghhhhh

I'm not finding her teachings to very appropreite to good fencing, she has a tendancy to be sloppy.
