is jerry still going (thats the guy with the cowboy hat) i think the other guys with the shades is a relation to dion but noooooooooooooo they are not the belmonts but the sounds good
It was back in 1958 in a car, sitting outside of a new restaurant, I think they called it, McDonalds. you had to walk up to a little window, place your order, get a coke, a bag of french fries, cooked in animal oil, and two hamburgers, for only $. 50. yeah, then Mc D's only had three types of hamburgers, plain, everything and cheese burgers, only one size of fries, great milkshakes, they didn't have inside seating, no quarter pounders, no chicken, just, burgers, fries and drinks,
My favorite song by The Belmonts!!! I have only one question: Who are the two INCREDIBLE backup singers and why don't we know more about THEM? Unbelievable...makes me smile every time I watch it. Someone tell THEM to form a retro group...I'll be the first in line.
Man these Doo Wop guys still sound like they did or better then they did when they recorded their hits. I always liked Dion's "Ruby Baby", Johhny Maestro still sounds just as good as he did back in the day and so does Randy of the Rainbows. These guys brought it when they hit the stage. Great music.
THIS SUCH A TREAT WHAT GREAT SOUND THE LEGENDS LIKE DION AND THE BELMONTS LISTEN TO THAT I MET DION IN SAMASH MUSIC STORE SOMETIME BACK WHAT A COOL GUY HES THE BEST
@tacomuybueno I agree that doo-wop is way better than the current crop of pop music that tunes auto-tuning technology to create a particular aesthetic. Auto-tuning was developed for live performance and this was likely auto-tuned. You can tell at the end when one of the backing guys falters, but it's perfectly in tune.
@Rockinghorserider1 Today is Dion's birthday. He turns... 72. Which would have made him 65 in this clip. Some guys have lost their voice: Elton John, Tom Jones, Cher. But Dion still sounds great.
There is good music today as well, plenty of it. But I don't like how this sort of music is thrown aside, relegated to the dust bins, not even played on radio. Dion was one of the best, and still is.
Dion is still one of the all-time greats. I have his stuff from the 50's all the way to now, and the best sounds vital and creative no matter the era it came from.
Man, I wasn't expecting such a great performance from Dion in 2004! What great passion and great singing from his backup singers also-keep it up Dion!
sixstrings2 - in answer to your question about the doo-wop years, of course people were the same --good and bad, etc. People don't change BUT it was an age of innocence compared to today. Then, we didn't have instant information or communication, so we teenagers (as with adults) had more time to think not give immediate msgs. as today. And the music was always about love lost or won all in harmony, unlike much of the loud, angry, repetitive noise called "music" today.

@franreilley It's that never-ending cycle... OUR music is great, THEIR music is crap... our parents hated our music, said that THEIR music was what is good... WE love OUR music and hate our kids' music, because ours is good and theirs is crap... and so on and so on... truth is... what is good, lasts. What isn't... doesn't. Dion is 70-something now. Will we see Justin Bieber in 50 years? Me thinks not.
@kb6kgx , dion performed when singers had to perform , i was born in the 70s and grew up in the 80s , in ireland , but 50s music is great , my favorite is still irish music , songs and stories , but the 50s is a close match ,
@miscuser69 I was making a generalization, of course. In general, kids find their own music and distance themselves from the music of their parents. How else can you explain the popularity of some off these groups today who do nothing but scream and make noise? Yes, that's what MY parents said about The Beatles and what came after them. And, before that, they were calling Rhythm & Blues "jungle music", not the "good" music like Sinatra and Como. Yes, there are exceptions, everywhere.
great and hypeddt2 I think most ppl enjoy this music to be honest. I know ppl who listen to black metal and I know ppl listening to reggae but everyone seems to enjoy this kinda music. it's just that not many ppl today get to get to the front to show off their skills in this epic music catagory.
What the younger generation doesn't realize is these guys had the talent.......they didn't have the technology to enhance their voices or the music. What you see is what you get.......many bands today have dubbing or overlay in live performances or back tracks.....If I had the technology today I'd be a superstar in the 50s LOL
There is more talent in these three gentlemen who are still at the top of their game 50 years later, than there is in any of the rapper, hip hopper reciters today. Notice I said reciters, not singers.big difference, right? This is great!!!
@RXBA3U5 I WASNT FROM THERE TIME BUT MY MOTHER AND FATHER WERE AND WE ALL LIVED IN NORTHEN NEW JERSEY AND NJ AND NY WERE THE HOT SPOTS FOR THIS TYPE OF MUSIC AND IM A GREAT FAN AND I REALY INJOY THERE MUSIC AND YOUR RIGHT RAP DOSNT EVEN COME CLOSE TO THIS I NEVER GOT THAT WERE THERE RAPING ABOUT HOs AND DRUGS AND MONEY CAN YOU SEE THEM WHEN THERE OLD STILL GETTING DOWN TO THAT KIND OF MUSIC LOL LMAO
@grizzleybearz282004 They'll try to get down, if they live that long....and when they get down, they'll stay down until somebody hauls them to the hospital.
Doo Wop is great music people --- Dion has been through the wars & is a survivor ---These are not The Belmonts but the song has great impact --- enjoy folks !
god some of you people ,NO its NOT the belmonts read the comments jezz i have this dvd 4 years now and that was a gift anyways listen to a star dion always makes the magic happen just like frankie valli or in your lots case the jersey boys TUT TUIT
Yo! I’m 12 and this is ONE of my favourite types of music, the first time I heard this song was when I watched "A Bronx Tale" with Chazz Palminteri.. I like rap/hip-hop ect-.. but not this new school shit, Biggie and Pac ect ect are the ones I listen to.
He's lucky he never got on that plane with Buddy Holly, Ritchie Vanels and J.P ( The Big Bopper )v Richardson other wise younger kids like me wouldn't have found him. Let Rock and Roll live on!!!.
I've always loved Dion and the Belmonts. I just happened to click on this clip about two hours ago. I can't stop listening to it! What a powerful version from the 1958 version. There Harmonies are so tight! and the band is right in there with them. A for sure keeper!
absolutely amazing!!! if ya lie down listening to this really loud with ya eyes shut you actually feel like ya out of the bronx tale movie!! lol classic
Never get tired of hearing this song. It just does something to me. I can play it over and over like I'm a teenager again. And that's not easy to do when you're 68!
@stan13143 So you were born around 1943, so I guess you probably remember just about all of the 50's so I want to ask you... Was the world really that much different back then? I mean, there was still rape, murder, drugs, bad parents, stealing, racism, bad language and crappy weather... Granted I know that it wasn't as in your face as it is now, but it was still there right??
@stan13143 And yet "you did it"! Keep the music alive my friend, This is a time that will never pass again. Songs had a message, a story in the middle and a great end. Wow !!! Caprice
who is the singer with the head band on ...he is great!!!

He's lucky he never got on that plane with Buddy Holly, Ritchie Vanels and J.P ( The Big Bopper )v Richardson other wise younger kids like me wouldn't have found him. Let Rock and Roll live on!!!.
Steamaddict1603 10 months ago
We use to hurry home fron school when bandstand had a big name on like Dion.
They would always lipsynce and we knew it but he was one of the top acts where both guys and girls liked him.
Elvis was another.
dfuge10224 10 months ago
It's because Dion got his act together that I now have his facebook page.

bobluman4 10 months ago
I've always loved Dion and the Belmonts. I just happened to click on this clip about two hours ago. I can't stop listening to it! What a powerful version from the 1958 version. There Harmonies are so tight! and the band is right in there with them. A for sure keeper!

Granted I know that it wasn't as in your face as it is now, but it was still there right??
sixstrings2 8 months ago
@stan13143 And yet "you did it"! Keep the music alive my friend, This is a time that will never pass again. Songs had a message, a story in the middle and a great end. Wow !!! Caprice
