Karenga said the creation of Kwanzaa was motivated in part by his hostility toward both Christianity and Judaism. In his 1980 book, Kawaida Theory, he claimed Christianity is a "myth". So blacks who celebrate Kwanzaa, are agreeing that Christianity is a "myth".

Kwanzaa is not a substitute for Christmas. Alot of people get this mixed up just because its celebrated near Christmas time. Kwanzaa is simply a CULTURAL holiday, not a RELIGIOUS holiday. Kwanzaa and Christmas are 2 different things. Noticed how Kwanzaa is celebrated the day after Christmas, not ON Christmas...this was to avoid the
collaboration with Christmas so it can be honored by itself.
