@GabeRAWL94 The more dancey ones usually live DJ various tracks, some of which are their own. Others use midi controllers to trigger different sequences or effects in the song. A few purposefully make it hard for themselves and actually play some of their melodies live with a keyboard. Skrillex only really adjusts the EQ and switches in various effects live.

Unless you have a massive band, it's impossible to do everything live with most electronic stuff.

yes if actually was mixing multiple songs together LIVE then he would be DJing.

BUT

as an Ableton user, I am aware that it is impossible to "DJ" with that software.

The tracks are mapped to the session and AUTOMATICALLY matched together. there is no DJing involved.

Skrillex does not DJ, he 'performs'. if you want to even call it that.

His whole performance is premade in the program, all he does is include live effects.

@on3night That's not really how it works. Yes, the tracks are pre-warped so they don't have to be beatmatched, but they *are* mixed live. I agree that Skrillex doesn't use Ableton to it's fullest potential, but he's definitely mixing. The only element that has been removed from the way a traditional DJ mixes is the need to adjust pitch faders. That's it. If his performances are pre-made, then he's not very good at it, because he fucks up all the time. He's a shit DJ, but he's still DJing.

@on3night true, it would be absolutely impossible for dj's to make the songs sound the same as what they had recorded. So for the most part, its just a show, and you're listening to a recording. Dubed over dubstep basically, hehe.... he'll add in some effects though, but not to ruin the songs.

At the end of the day the crowd doesn't care.

You just want to see the guy who created the music jump around on stage.

I've been to many many many "Live Performances" where all they do is push a button every 30 seconds, but it didn't make it any less awesome.

Some do play more than others but across the board there's not much going on on stage.
