I really feel for poor Tom. He has to deal with aspergers, teenage angst and crazy parents all in one go. They should respect his privacy and think of his feeling more. Instead of going though his belongings all the time and not leaving him alone when he has had a shitty day. I bet they think he runs away from home all of the time because he has aspergers.
My gosh... Aside from the physical violence Tom is just a normal broody teenager who does normal, broody, teenager-y things like tells his siblings to f*%k off! His parents are an immense part of the 'problem'...
none of these parents suck, i agree to a point that they are not doing their boys any good by being over protective. My son is an aspie, and i don't view it as being negative, i don't want him cured. He's brilliant wonderful boy the way he is. These parents need to let go and start viewing their kids as not having a debilitating disease..it's not a disease..it's a condition and there are hurdles they can overcome with the right guidance.
You can all comment......"the parents suck" yada yada yada........but how many of you have ever had a child with this condition....parenting is hard enough...you try managing a full house with a child who acts like that....I may be the only one fighting the parents corner here but I'm exhausted watching him...I say fair play to the parents for bringing up such a wonderful family!
Tom's parents should take him to see a decent doctor and get him on some appropriate medications. There have been huge advancements in medicine now, and it's not just a case of 'one medicine fixes all' anymore... A good doctor should be able to balance an anti-depressant with medicine designed to help people with autism concentrate better... It's sad that they had to go on TV, but I hope that the exposure brings them the help they need!
tom's parent need training on how to deal with their son. tom is similiar to someone who has FASD. tom also might have other problems other than autism.
IDK there is this unsettling feeling about Tom's story.
It is uncanny, a large part of it must be multi-task issues, but there seems also an unusual spirit in the whole family's dynamics... Mutual resentment and tit-for-tat stuff, the atmosphere just seems tainted and it is hard to tell whether the chicken or the egg came first here (if one knows what I mean)...
@CDB8510 I know what you mean. Tom seems to be like a scapegoat while the whole atmosphere of the family is part of the problem. Situations like this happen all the time.. Sadly
@CDB8510 I know, is it his mood that's souring up the family atmosphere or is there something wrong with the family atmosphere and the way he is brought up that causes him to lose all hope?
excuse me dul beat i find your remark about my mother offensive , if it wasn't for her efforts i would not of been diagnose with autism and my life would be very frustration . so i would suggest you keep your comments to yourself . mate!
@DulBeat it dosen't it all depends on the people, some find it harder coping with autisim like these people, but if their parents let them be more idependent then they can learn to control it work it to thier advantages, i have autisim and aspergers syndrome and i have adhd and dyslixia and i am epelictic, you would think i cant cope, but because my mum and dad have let me go off to university and let me be my own person i have learnt to control them and i am making them work to my strength
lol tom sais he didnt mean to hit him i go to same specail school as him and when he gets mad he definitly is trying to hit peopel the only problem is i dont give a fuck if hes mad or not im also mad and he can have the same reactoin its a simple lesson of life not to hit people stronger than u as i taught (or thought i had) to him
Notice how when the Council woman was interviewing him she always had to belittle his intelligence. He wanted to do something in the Performing Arts, but instead suggested "repetitive data entry" or Washing up. No wonder this country is going down the pan when peoples dreams are being washed by idiots like her.
Autism was just a word until I first watched 'The Autistic Me' on television. I've been on a few websites, in order to understand the disorder a little more. I do hope that Oli, Alex, Kirsty and Tom have a bright future and I wish them all the good luck and understanding they deserve. It would have been well good if they'd show Tom playing his guitar!
Whoever organized the soundtrack to this part of the documentary is a legend.

I'm so happy they used a Metallica song. Metal is one of the great ways that people who feel they are different can belong.

I really want Alex to find someone special, who truly appreciates him. He seems like such a nice guy, and any girl would be lucky to date him.

Aspergers sucks hard ass. You can't help but cheer Alex on. He's just so unfalteringly upbeat.
Oli needs to punch him mom. He's a pretty normal guy, he's just got some hurdles. She's dragging him down.

if any one wants to know, a pleb is a short form for plebian and it was used as a sort of insult and meant that the people were poor or such
it was used throughout rome and new rome as a slang word
