It takes alot of training or experience to deny the urge to block a car or a bike when you are trying to stop them. Reguardles of the pursuit, any vehicle that pulls into opposing traffic, even at the speed limit, it will not end well. The officer should have excerted better judgement. Not saying the riders should have ran, but the police are to protect, not endanger.

@surpiu The cop may not have realized how fast the bike was going. He may have blocked the road thinking there was plenty of time for the bike to stop. It's hard to guage closing rates with bikes because they only have one head light.

We, as human beings, have that ability to understand our mistakes before we reap the consequences of them. He made his decision to flee and attempt to elude the officer and therefor paid dearly. I, in no way, am wishing that he had died or even got hurt, but being a grown man he should have known better.

All the rider had to do was stop and take the ticket he deserved, no big deal. When I was in my 20s I used to ride my CBR like the young idiot I was, but at least I pulled over when a cop stopped me...instead of running and starting a pursuit that could have killed me or some innocent person.

Look I ride everyday to and from work. Most of the time why motorcyclists are killed is because the cars dont look before they move over. But ok n this case its the kids fault. He ran. yes the cop car did kill him but its not the cops fault. They were doing their jobs. Its the kids fault for being stupid on the bike.
So, another cop got a paid vacation while they "investigated" and returned to work with no consequences for killing someone. That about sum it up? I have riders zoom past me every day on the highway, I almost hit one after putting my blinker on and checking the lane next to me before I moved over. I could have killed him all because he was driving way over the speed limit and being reckless. I have no sympathy for those who ride like assholes.

So without any video of what happened to the other trooper, you're going to assume he swerved to "murder" the biker? There were TWO bikers in the first place, each one in a separate lane. How do you know the trooper didn't swerve to avoid the first one and the second one hit him? Just because the car is now in the other lane, doesn't mean it started there. But nobody seemed to notice that the cop car is actually in the left lane facing the correct way with the flow of traffic in that lane, That means that the bike was driving in the wrong lane going against the flow of traffic. Epic fail, no wonder he died. And I assume the rider is somewhere in the distance over the cop car where those other cars are
@imsuperalex I guess you didn't notice the cop car is actually straddling both lanes with another cap car behind it which is most definitely in the wrong lane.
I'm not justifying the biker's action of running but I have to question where the dash cam footage of the other cop cars, including the wrecked cop car, is to show what they were attempting to do to stop the fleeing riders. Seems there's more story to tell.

@arstovicek I did notice the position of the cop car that impacted the bike. I believe the force of the collision may have caused the car to end up in that position. Notice how the bike is entirely in the left-hand lane. And I believe the cars in the background were with the body of the rider which probably flew over the cop car. But this is all speculation from both of us. Either way, running from the cops is a bad idea and it had to end somehow.
@arstovicek Actually, if you attend a class on how to investigate a traffic crash, you will learn that upon high impact the rear end of the troopers car would have left the ground and ultimately re-positioned on the roadway.
@Atlbraves28 since you imply that you have attended such a class, explain how the bike ended up UNDER the front bumper...high speed head on collision between these 2 vehicles would end up with the bike being thrown into the air and beyond where the car comes to rest. the front bumper is low to the ground so that means in order for the bike to end up underneath, it would have to be on the ground before impact, hood damage is from the biker himself
@burnseason098 Not at all! I can almost gurantee one of two things happened prior to collision. 1. The biker laid the bike down and thus was run over by the car, but this wouldn't result in as much hood damage as is shown. More likely is reason 2. The biker got the "speed wobbles" and just before impact the front tire was angled to the left. This would cause the tire to get caught under the bumper and immediately throw the bike down, while allowing the biker himself to be thrown.
@arstovicek Don't blame the police for doing their job, You saw how those kids were riding, they were all over the road. You also weren't there sometimes things happen so fast it's hard to react. Even trained police officers have accidents. If the kid would have stopped he may have gotten a ticket or his MC impounded but he would still be alive.
Kids sometimes make poor decisions, I know I made some when I was a kid, Luckily mine didn't kill me.
@arstovicek The bike was clearly in the wrong lane. The car was not. It probably git knocked to the side by the collision. The other car probably pulled into the other lane to avoid the crash since he couldn't tell exactly what was happening in a split second.
@thremtopod315 look at the angle again, look at where the motorcycle impacted the car. the car is angled back into its correct lane with the bike basically underneath it. the only way to get a bike UNDER a car in a head on collision like that is for the biker to have laid his bike down when he saw the car approaching in the wrong lane (which means the damage on the hood is from the rider being hit and tossed over the car) if the bike had impacted the car upright, it wouldve flipped over w/ rider
@arstovicek A vehicle doesn't always stay it its lane after being hit... The cop probably wasn't straddling the lanes when the bike hit him. Also, the other cops in the "wrong lane" most likely did that as a response to the accident, blocking traffic is standard police procedure.
@jklsd Yeah, that was kind of my point: we don't know from this video. To try and draw conclusions to what actually happened with what is presented here is pointless. The bikers should not have run from the start, but without the dashcam videos from the other police cars we can't say for certain what caused the biker to collide with the police car. Did he swerve out in front? Did the car behind the one in the collision cause the biker to take evasive action causing the crash? Who knows?
@arstovicek...you noticed the police car straddling both lanes (not completely) then you would also notice that the motorcycle is clearly in the wrong lane. what does this prove? nothing really...both vehicles could be in the wrong lane because of their respective evasive actions, not their alleged aggressive actions. the video does not prove the officers guilt or innocence with regard to trying to stop the fleeing rider with his vehicle.

Failure to understand what is terribly wrong with what this officer did shows how naive and sheepish you people are. We do not hire police officers to do this sort of thing. There was no need to do it. The OFFICERS actions resulted in this collision. He drove on teh wrong side of the road and intentionally placed his car in the path of the rider. He killed him. period.

It takes alot of training or experience to deny the urge to block a car or a bike when you are trying to stop them. We, as human beings, have that ability to understand our mistakes before we reap the consequences of them. He made his decision to flee and attempt to elude the officer and therefor paid dearly. But nobody seemed to notice that the cop car is actually in the left lane facing the correct way with the flow of traffic in that lane, That means that the bike was driving in the wrong lane going against the flow of traffic. @arstovicek I did notice the position of the cop car that impacted the bike. I believe the force of the collision may have caused the car to end up in that position. Notice how the bike is entirely in the left-hand lane. And I believe the cars in the background were with the body of the rider which probably flew over the cop car. But this is all speculation from both of us. Either way, running from the cops is a bad idea and it had to end somehow.

@Atlbraves28 since you imply that you have attended such a class, explain how the bike ended up UNDER the front bumper...high speed head on collision between these 2 vehicles would end up with the bike being thrown into the air and beyond where the car comes to rest. the front bumper is low to the ground so that means in order for the bike to end up underneath, it would have to be on the ground before impact, hood damage is from the biker himself

@burnseason098 Not at all! I can almost gurantee one of two things happened prior to collision. 1. The biker laid the bike down and thus was run over by the car, but this wouldn't result in as much hood damage as is shown. More likely is reason 2. The biker got the "speed wobbles" and just before impact the front tire was angled to the left. This would cause the tire to get caught under the bumper and immediately throw the bike down, while allowing the biker himself to be thrown.

Even trained police officers have accidents. If the kid would have stopped he may have gotten a ticket or his MC impounded but he would still be alive.

@arstovicek The bike was clearly in the wrong lane. The car was not. It probably git knocked to the side by the collision. The other car probably pulled into the other lane to avoid the crash since he couldn't tell exactly what was happening in a split second.

@thremtopod315 look at the angle again, look at where the motorcycle impacted the car. the car is angled back into its correct lane with the bike basically underneath it. the only way to get a bike UNDER a car in a head on collision like that is for the biker to have laid his bike down when he saw the car approaching in the wrong lane (which means the damage on the hood is from the rider being hit and tossed over the car) if the bike had impacted the car upright, it wouldve flipped over w/ rider

@arstovicek A vehicle doesn't always stay it its lane after being hit... The cop probably wasn't straddling the lanes when the bike hit him. Also, the other cops in the "wrong lane" most likely did that as a response to the accident, blocking traffic is standard police procedure.

The bikers should not have run from the start, but without the dashcam videos from the other police cars we can't say for certain what caused the biker to collide with the police car. Did he swerve out in front? Did the car behind the one in the collision cause the biker to take evasive action causing the crash? Who knows?

@arstovicek...you noticed the police car straddling both lanes (not completely) then you would also notice that the motorcycle is clearly in the wrong lane. what does this prove? nothing really...both vehicles could be in the wrong lane because of their respective evasive actions, not their alleged aggressive actions. the video does not prove the officers guilt or innocence with regard to trying to stop the fleeing rider with his vehicle.

deputy petersen knew he was going to kill this guy on the bike when he swerved into the other lane to hit him! Hopefully this guys family brings a lawsuit against this "police department". What this guy on the bike was doing was wrong but did he really deserve to get killed by an idiot cop? typical cop " i am gona git this guy i dont care who it kills".

If you're dumb enough to think this is how police officers should behave, you deserve any abuse you may receive at their hands. Failure to understand what is terribly wrong with what this officer did shows how naive and sheepish you people are. We do not hire police officers to do this sort of thing. There was no need to do it. The OFFICERS actions resulted in this collision. He drove on teh wrong side of the road and intentionally placed his car in the path of the rider. He killed him. period.

@dacrummie Not entirely true. I have seen numerous police officers put there vehicles in the way to stop motorcyclist, people running on foot and other vehicles, so it is kinda likely he drove in front of him just to slow him down, not knowing the reaction it would cause.

Gave me a chill watching the last moments of this young kids life. Makes me think twice about running again. And to the people who talk crap he was just having fun like every young kid would and who heres about a motorcycle hitting a bystander? i haven't i hear more drivers hitting the motorcycle. iv lost two friends on a motorcycle cause of a careless driver and one due to a chase such as this. i say let them put there life's at risk it's there choice so STFU to all ya'll hatters

Would somebody PLEASE get the fire extinguisher!!!! On a serious note,I believe that if the cops would just back off,make a radio call to other law enforcement down the road,and be patient,that they would catch these running bikers without getting someone killed.If the running rider thinks that he's gotten away,he WILL eventually stop at a stop sign or stop light.Then you run out and tackle him off his bike.Cops chasing bikers almost always ends in fatality.Stupid macho bullshit,IMO.
