Amazing to look back at this as I was at this gig. The highpoint of the day, apart from the gig, was watching the BBC engineers trying to assemble a transmission mast on The Refectory and cheering every time it blew over. It was windy and we were drunk students. The actual recordered bit was before the actual show and sucked a bit as it was so bright due to the lights needed for the cameras. The gig proper was great though.
love this band and 'a secret wish'!! brian and derek from simple minds on drums and bass....so much of this was trevor horn and steve lipson......the girls were and still are, stunningly beautiful.......awesome music...
There's an 18 year old version of me in the front row, worshipping at Claudia's feet. Some great acts played UEA in my time there - I remember Throwing Muses, The Pixies, The Waterboys, Latin Quarter and Suzanne Vega - but Propaganda and the late, great Ted Hawkins were the coolest and the best. Thanks for the memories!
I would lose my mind to see a show like this today. I bought this album when it first came out (well, I taped it on cassette from my friend ha!) and have loved it ever since. This tour never came to the States as far as a I know. But if they could ever get as much of this line-up as possible together to at least play some big American festivals like Coachella it would be AMAZING. I can't get enough of this brilliance!!! And yes, Claudia is a babe ;)
This is my favourite single from the album. I've never seen this video before - really great! I love her voice: there's an interesting grain to it. I like the different ending...
When you consider how studio-intensive their music was, it's a small miracle that Propaganda could pull off a song like this in a live performance. Thanks for posting!
Let me put my comment differently then, the younger generation should view & listen to this for inspirartion & to set free there creativity musical abilities like Propaganda once did. It would be a much 'cooler' milleninum . 2000 and beyond. Nothing to do with Obama.
Kevin's guitar sound was common in the eighties: Non-blues style on a Fender guitar with single coil pickups, amp set to clean, chorus/flanger pedal, and a Roland Space Echo if you could afford it. (All started by Andy Summers of course.)
I had always thought they were only a studio band -- I never knew they even toured, but then again they weren't very visible in the USA -- and the pleasure is in seeing/hearing how TIGHT they were on stage -- true musicians! Thank You!
Youtube is proving to be great for seeing things like this. Gems from the 80s, a period most people write off as being naff, but actually containing a lot of interesting things.
I remember seeing this at the time on tv,BF(ex-simple minds) was a great bass player, the guitar riff fits so well,an 80's sound but great at the time, very overlooked band.Got rip off badly by their record company.
That is Brian McGhee on drums. I remember when they came through Toronto on that tour, reading about the Simple Minds rhythm section in the Toronto Star. For some reason, I blew them off and have forever regretted not going.
Well let me tell you, a band like this won` be coming around anytime soon.Todays music has gone down the tubes.
For a real fan like me , pay attention to Kevin A.and that guitar playing, the sound , is that unique or what....The man is well and alive and still playing strong ,found a good web site with lots of information about him currently etc.Anyways if there is a fan still alive out there respond with a comment.
this track was used by Luc Besson at the start of his film SUBWAY during a car chase scene between a pugeot 205 gti and an s class merc. a different track was used for the USA release, and this other track is on the DVD; however, i have a video of when it was first shown on TV in the UK with the correct music ( v rare) and you can see it on youtube.
Thank you so much, Transceive/Steve Nelson, for posting this gem. Beautiful sound and images. Was such a big fan of Propaganda when they were big, but never got to see an iteration of the band playing live. This video is the next best thing. Love Kevin Armstrong's wonderful guitar, quite redolent of David Gilmour's playing on 'The Wall' for Pink Floyd. Is that an ex-Simple Minds drummer, Brian McGee, anchoring on the skins? Anyone out there confirm that? Wonderful, wonderful, wonderful.
Couldn't tell you if it was Brian McGee, but that's Derek Forbes on bass isn't it? This is brilliant - I'm a huge fan of Propaganda, but I had no idea they could play this well live! Claudia Brucken is brilliant!
Fantastic guitar sound on this live version...there must've been something in the water in 1985... i recall the same sound from Tina turner's guitarist on "We dont need another hero".Transceive, thanks for posting this. Awesome.

I was heavy into punk rock in HS, but discovered Propaganda and thought it was great. I love the singers.

My sister would be playing Gary Numan in her room and I would be playing Propaganda and Kraftwork in mine back in the 80's

One of the best bands of that decade.
