  • john coltrane is a fucking genius!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • i'm buying a sax, can't help it anymore

  • Spent all night transcribing this, Lazy Bird, Freddie Freeloader, Blue Pepper, Moment's Notice, and Anthropology? Night well spent.

  • Perfect Jazz...Perfectly Played...by Perfect Virtuosos.

  • :l..... cannot imitate...

  • there will never ever be another john coltrane. the only person that i can say came close to it was michale brecker : )

  • @rongeez990918 have you heard of sonny rollins........?

  • Thanks for sharing

  • Anyone else actually like this even better than 'Giant Steps'? I think it swings harder and shows more felicitous control of phrasing. Oh, and the superb solos from Tyner and Tailor.

  • @polymath7 yeah, i know what you mean (also a lot more easy and fun to play). wasn't the pianist tommy flanagan?

  • His phrasing is insane

  • Can't stop listening to this song.....AHHH

  • This honestly makes me want to get up and just dance Oh, Coltrane your the bes! ;D

  • Graceas McCoy por ese solo de piano, eres el puto amo!!!!!!

  • In '76 a friend sent me a book of transcriptions of everything on this record, from Japan by Sadao Wantanabe. It took me a couple years to learn it well enough to play this fast. I'll tell you its a long -asssed solo and he had some iron chops to pull that stuff off at the end like he did. Every single lick in this is bad to the bone. The fours with Art are just gold... man I love Trane!

  • Coltrane his chords are sick :O

  • Can play on the sax baby.

  • @ThegreatAntwan Same!

  • Just started learning this on the sax... but WOW!! Didn't know how fast the original was!! Amazing though :))

  • im trying this on flute

  • Love Trane's Mr. PC. Lambert, Hendricks and Ross have a great Vocalese cover with lyrics. Has anyone else heard it?

  • I can play this on my trumpet :)

  • @Andreas19997 post the vid of you playing Mr. PC on trumpet, I'd love to hear it.

  • @jediknightrider

    I can't play it as fast as J Coltrane can;

I'm only in my first year of jazz trumpet, I first did 5 years of classic trumpet.

But I'll give it a try tommorow :)

  • @Andreas19997 play it in c. the main riff is pretty simple starting on d

  • @mattsmith20111

    Ok :)

  • @mattsmith20111 ?? the song is in c minor and starts with a c.

  • @TheIlja000 trumpet is a Bb instrument. trumpets play d when song is in c

  • @mattsmith20111 ah yeah sure. i forgot

  • Mr. Paul Fuckin Chambers

  • I love this piano line.

  • I was told that i should play the french horn because it fitted my personality......well fuck that! TENOR SAX RULES!

  • @TheBluesAndJazz hahahahaha french horn xD

  • @TheBluesAndJazz

    Hey. don't forget trumpet

  • Case study of improvisation with melodic minor scale - 'Trane was a pioneer in its use since it was nearly alien to jazz before him, (well as the symmetrical diminished). Tommy Flanagan uses the dominant b9 b6 instead (5th mode of Harmonic minor), more typical of minor key ii/Vs.

  • Wow, after witnessing so many shitty renditions of the tune, it feels good to come back home.

  • with this song I'm getting back at my neighbour for keeping me up all night, thanks! (like it though!)

  • Is anyone else playing this in the Real Book?

  • @sbsproxmysox yup, but we sometimes play it to a funk beat and its awesome

  • @Jberg8188 How do you go about doing that?

  • Been told to Play on guitar.

    Fuck.

  • @maiadiamond me too, i'm learning from the real book lol

  • @maiadiamond haha, same, we've just started playing it in my jazz band! it was a little hard to pick up at first!

  • @maiadiamond Same. Fuck.

  • Again and again, anytime, anywhere.

Mr. PC is a wonderful piece of a brilliant album written by a Saint of Jazz in dedication to one of the greatest walkers ever.

  • @rfoxfa1 to explain would be useless if you are asking that question.haha wonderful song no less

  • Trane! The greatest!

  • Managed to busk my way through this piece again at my newest haunt (Jazz Café at Newcastle upon Tyne). It's so damn fun. It's even more fun when it comes to the solos, since I have the freedom to bust out some crazy shit on my trombone.

  • @DeedMDavid hellyeah, us trombone players always have the most fun

  • @rfoxfa1 D dorian

  • I have to play this song in guitar class cause we are on our blues section. Its a pretty challenging song, then after that we have to solo in the key of C.

  • This is my favorite jazz piece and recording ever.

  • @rfoxfa1 The tune is a C minor blues, but he plays so outside the box that he's not really soloing in any particular hey. Lots of chromatic stuff going on.

  • Trying this on guitair and getting fast as him is almost impossible but i am getting there

  • fucking awesome!

  • I'd like to meet this one person that disliked this :O

  • Required listening for anybody who plays saxophone (or wants to).

  • omg 4:34 to 4 :38 fucking good phraising

  • 1 dislike? Crazy. How can anyone dislike this?

  • 1 dislike, Mr. Douchebag.

  • Edgewood Jazz Combo

  • John Coltrane is my long time idol ever since I started jazz.(even if he doesn't jam with a trombone.)

  • Somehow, our jazz combo turned this into a rocky/bluesy jam that was really loud and extremely awesome.

  • THE GIANT AND THE GENIUS

  • one of the best. right up there with miles davis.

  • my jazz combo at school plays this. lots of fun

  • The master...the genius!

  • the jazz band at my school uses this as a headtune

  • My combo group uses this as our go-to song. It's so fantastic!

  • From this point I was addicted to John Coltrane.

  • 0:23 beeeeeeeeeessssst part

  • Thanks! Glad someone finally uploaded this great tune

  • SImply amazing!

  • Picci, na minha casa nós cultuamos Coltrane, presença obrigatória!

Xico Flávio e minha mãe, quando comentam são shows os dois e você por postar essa maravilha *****

    Ana Carolina

  • bad ass tune!

  • This is one of the first jazz LP's I started listening to when I found out how much jazz is. The entire composition of this song is so damn jazzy. I especially love the piano solo. And XicoFlavio is right Trane is the MF'n Man.

  • @SuperOsiris77 This album and Miles Davis - Kind of Blue got me hooked on Jazz.

  • Well if you check out my profile, you can clearly tell that I am a huge "lady caca fan"

  • Thanks a lot Mr Picci. It's a great idea to show my comment widespread.

    Trane is the Man !

  • "This theme dedicated by Trane to his bassist Paul Chambers, has become one of the great standards of the Hard Bop style. The original album of the '60s is included among my 10 favorite LPs. the session is May 4, 1959 and had the own PC on bass, piano economical and efficient Tommy Flanagan plus drummer Art Taylor. It is an excellent time of jazz that deserves to be heard forever."

    words of our friend XicoFlavio.

Obrigado.

  • @XicoFlavio cool story bro

  • @guitarguy1381 I cant draw that comparison as Ive never sat and watched paint dry, but if thats how you wanna spend your time....

  • @bigblindguy lol

  • @guitarguy1381 I never knew watching paint dry could be so exciting. Better stick to your Lady Ga Ga music. Now isn't that exciting.

  • @guitarguy1381 I enjoy your South Indian Classical videos, but for the life of me, I can't see how you would this tune (or anything from the Giant Steps album) boring.
