My brother came back from Vietnam in 1965, he died in the 70's from cancer caused by agent orange. he was in the 101st airborn I think. May he rest in peace.
Yes sir I do. known to the grunts in the Nam as THE SHIT HOOK, BWR (boat with roaters*), RPG MAGNET and above all, it's given name, the Chinook, not the Chinook
Many soldiers are dying in Irak. If we don't stop our government about sending troops to irak, it will turn another Vietnam ( 58,189 soldiers died there)
If you pledge to be a soldier than you should be ready to die for whatever reason your superiors think is worth, right? Otherwise, don't become a soldier.
@fefo33065 i agree with you, however most of them didn't have a choice because of the draft. It was either a year in Vietnam or fleeing to Canada for life.
They were all afraid to lose their reputation, losing their family's and town's respect, its ignorant idiotic American society's fault, people sending their children to war, fucking sheep.
Similarities are there. The corruption of the Iraqi government is the same if not worse, from the top down. Its perhaps the one biggest reason the Iraqi Army has not been able to stand up on its own. And we are doing as we did in Vietnam, fighting thier insurrection for them. Actions are being taken to correct this, and I will wait until General Patraeus makes his report in September before I call on Congressmen to resign thier positions.
respect for all the ones who faugth for their country, and i think we may never forget this shit. It where not only american and vietcong soldiers who lost their lifes, dont forget canadian, australian and new-zealand forces.
What should not be forgotten is how the war was lost. Not militarily, but by political will. The VC were defeated during TET of 68, however the news media had become anti war. Without media support the Congressmen(brave souls that they are) ran as fast as they could to where they thought the votes were. They cut off funding for the war and shortly thereafter South Vietnam collasped. The American press, people and congress lost the war, not the military.
too many Military decisions were made by the US Government rather than by the Military. The whole US Military were frustrated by these decisions. You can't win a war if you are too restricted in what you can and can't do

Why do they become soldiers in a first place?
Isn't the US army an all-volunteer army?

That is so unfortunate. They died and what was accomplished? I'm afraid NOTHING.
They are heroes regardless. The criminals were in the White House.

@fefo33065 They were brave but that still doesnt justify their actions or anyones on any side
