  • I tried to post a comment months ago and it was never posted. What are you afraid of?

  • VERY GOOD

  • Also, this video was taken off a commercial product named "The Martial Arts Explorer". I wonder if the poster received permission from the holders of the copyright on that material?

  • I would suggest that anyone thinking of posting a video of Kenny Gong get permission from his family. I spoke with them today and they are quite upset that people are posting these things without permission or without having any apparent connection with the school or his teaching. I have studied with him longer than anyone else, and I continue to teach his style in NYC.

    James Montalbano

  • I am simply flabbergasted!

  • I studied with Sifu Gong for one month in 1984, then with his student Stuart Charno for several years. His skill was superlative, if you ask anyone who has pushed with him. Sifu Stuart has put his MS into remission with dilligent Shing Yi practice. Shing Yi is becoming a lost art. It will be a shame when this powefull system fades away... jk

  • 1. Hi justoldog. I'm assuming that you say that kenny gong shing yi is becoming a lost art. Well here is my 2-cents. Take it for what is worth. Sifu taught hundreds of students until his passing in 1996. Then Mr. Montalbano has been authorized to take over by sifu's family. He currently teaches at the same school. In my opinion, I could count on 1 hand as to who has grabbed the "essence" of this style. I will not pass judgment as to whom.

  • 2. However with that said, it depends on how you look at the cup. I prefer to see it half full. There has only been 1 hand full of people who could pass on the "essence" of this art. Of these individuals most(and i am still counting from 1 hand) if teaching, choose not to advertise and are very selective(which is their choice). Nonetheless, my question to u is as compared to what? You are right in that it's a rarity to find a "shing yi guy." But that has always been the case, even b4 his death.

  • 3. So, until people(and i mean in a general sense) get off their "remote controls" and put in the effort required to be even remotely compared to sifu's lineage, there will always be 5 or less people with this invaluable knowledge. However, the keyword here is "choice." Going back to the begining of my point. Hundreds were taught and hopefully thousands more. The choice is/was theirs if they want to put in the quality in time in the course of their lives to grab the essence of the style. PEace.

  • I am no master but have been studying Chinese MAs for years and I say this guy is really good. 6 harmonies well displayed.

  • Rest in Peace Sifu, you are missed.

    Em

  • I'M SORRY BUT I DONT GET IT. YOU STATED HE IS ONE OF THE GREATEST OF ALL TIME WHOE ARE YOU COMPAIRING HIM TOO.

I STUDIED TAE KWON DO UNDER HENERY CHO

    NOT THAT'S AN ART.

    I'M SORRY BUT I DONT GET Shing-Yi

  • Hi Etragas. My best response it that I never studied Tai Kwan Do. I "don't get" this art because I know nothing of it. I honestly never heard of Mr. Henery Cho. I take it that from your implementing that he is well known. And if he is, that is fine. But I never researched your art, nor Mr. Cho, so I could never share much of a valid opinion of that which I never researched about. You get my drift? ;) Best regards.

  • Shing Yi translates as The art Of Mind Intention and Body shape. It is a magnificent Internal Martial Art, with a brilliant human kinetics discoveries and techniques. Studing 7 years with the Late Sifu Kenny Gong was an enormous gift that will stay with me forever and will continue to nurture me and my students.

  • Sorry I took so long to approve some of the comments made. It's been a while since I've logged-in.

  • The out-of-syncness kinda gets in the way. Watch this video muted to better see what's really going on. Kenny Gong was amazing..

  • Excellent video,I had the privilage to study at Sifu Gongs school for 10 years up until he passed away(1997)The school is still there and is run by James Montalbano who was one of his head students. Its true that there is a lot of Ba-Qua in his style,he advocated all Shing-Yi students to take time to study it as he believed it complemented the style(and vice-versa).Thank you for letting me see him again.

  • good kung fu

  • very interesting..

  • in chinese martial art this is really not good, really flashy looking but terrible overdone and out of whack body movements. no good xingyi or bagua look like this.

  • You obviously have no knowledge, insight or understanding of the art, or are just incredibly ignorant.

This man was one of the most incredible martial artists of the 20th century...too bad he is no longer alive, or you could go say that directly to his face...

But, you could only do so once.

  • No, sorry. Of course people who learn from someone worship him, but you big talkers are frog in a small well. It look nice in USA when you only have the small view from the well. In China, this guy considered very bad at Hsingyi, but you had not travelled there of course so believe him.

  • you have your opinion Furbutt1. However, you should also consider that no matter who your are and what you do in life, when you claim to know something and enough people get to overtly critique you, there would be something wrong if there were not some people misinterpreting your claimings. And if everybody agreed towards your claimings/teachings/practices, then I am pretty sure that someone, somewhere, will then call you a cult leader.

  • Small mindedness, Furbutt. What is more important, adherence to doctrine or true understanding?

  • holy cow. awesome.

  • His shing yi was of an "old" style of the Hebei system. However, it must be noted that alot of bagua is incorperated in his system.

  • please more!this is the real!thanks.

  • nice,is there more ? please sync sound-thanks!

  • how do I go about sync sounding? Thnx.

  • What kind of style of hsing i is this and where did you get this video?

  • simply the best

  • Amazing! One of the real NYC Chinatown Masters!

    Got any more clips?

  • thank you very much for posting this

i studied with one of mr gong's friends-

    sifu Wai yip Lam.

  • Are these linear BaGua drills? What is double butterfly? I have never seen anything like this. Please post more videos of the late Kenny Gong. Please!

  • Sorry for the late response. As you can see i seldom go on youtube. Some critics argue that this is not shing yi because there is so much bagua incorporated into Kenny Gong's style. It should be noted shing yi bagua. But people would probably criticize that too. So I guess it doesnt matter. But the system's effectiveness has been proven handsdown, worldwide time and time again by the late Kenny Gong. Peace.

  • Anyone that actually understand the internal arts and the importance of essence and principles over choreographed forms(useful as they may be as well)can surely see the effectiveness and mastery in this Masters performance. At least, I see it. Thanx for sharing.

  • wow. yes.

  • Awesome Xingyi, thanks for posting that.
