Gold cards are $15 not $30 you moron, There are different sales promotions every other month so sales change, Your gonna cry for paying $55 for 74 scoops? That's still less than a dollar per scoop, If you dont want to pay full price its called stocking up when they are on sale? Next time your going to bash a company get your facts straight. If you go in gnc again ask for lutein and fish oil because your eyes are a little slanted \ /
@SteelCitySam WTF are you talking about dingbat? did you not read the speech bubble where I corrected the gold card pricing? Obviously not. You can go ahead and pay your "discounted 55 bucks" while I'll get mine for under 50 every time. it's not whining, it's called not being played for a fool and being cost efficient, something you obviously lack.
@SteelCitySam Are you that retarded? It's because of ignorance fucks like you, that piece of shit companies like GNC are even around anymore. Only a complete idiot wouldn't realize he is getting scammed when he pays $55 for protein after getting 20% off with a $15 discount card. GNC is a scumbag company. Marks ups on supplements in general is just insane, usually the profit margin is 90%, in GNC's case probably 98% when they charge their crazy ass prices.
right on bro. every time i go in there I hear "if your going to buy this, you got to get this" and if you buy 2 you get a better deal. I go in there for one thing and spend 100 bucks every time
@lowhydrogen7018a1 I feel you there. now you may be able to get deals on other items if you look but for protein powder, I haven't had that experience hence i've jumped ship to Vitamin Shoppe
Your full of shit gc renew or 1st members 15 not 30. second if base retail protein is 74.99 20% off is 15 so here u go 74.99 - 15 = 59.99 . learn to fucking add u stupid man.
@RolloRobin lol, learn to read. if you were able to read you'd know that I corrected the listing of the GNC card in the video nitwit but that's besides the point of this video. 2nd, i'm glad you actually did the math b/c it strengthens my argument again. 59.99 for a 5 lb tub of protein is a deal to you?? hahaha..you're paying about 13 bucks and change more when you could get a 5 lb pound pretty much anywhere not named GNC (Vitamin Shoppe, online) for a shade over 45. discussion over
You're a small faggot. Gold card is 15$ you idiot and no the prices don't get marked up they stay at suggested retail price OR they go on sale. No matter what they're either the same or a little better or a couple dollars more than online prices. Take off that tank top unless you can fill it out in an XL...fucking homo
awww, you sound mad! Trolls gonna troll! I worked for GNC man, and I can tell you from first hand experience.... the sales tags come off and the retail price goes up so at the end of the day gold card week or not you are paying more for average product. For example. gold standard two pound tub "hot buy" during gold card week was 26.99. ... right down the road vitamin shoppes everyday price .... 23.99. It was like that on almost every product. their bogo deals suck too!
@climaxinnovative yeah no need to feed the trolls. the sad part of it all is that this guy works for GNC so either he's just trying to save face for the company or is actually that dumb to not even know how to do basic math. I'm thinking some of the former but a lot of the latter.
@imaseaturtle I couldn't agree with you more. I also work for GNC,and your right, we dont jack up the prices durning gold card week. I mean, shit do you know how long it would take to reprice every thing. Unreal that these dumb fucks think we change the prices
@man2joe you may not jack up prices at your store and that's fine but how can you be 100% certain that other stores are not practicing these shady tactics especially when a lot of people online have complained? also, i'm not stating that everything was repriced in the store. Multiple times at various locations in Ca I have seen the prices jacked on the 5 lb tub of protein. it only takes a few min to switch a tag on a few labels by the protein. cmon lets get real.
I moved to AZ a few months ago..found out the AZ is the only state where if you have a gold card you get the 20% everyday of the month! testing state*
@sanitary103 Yea, but they are still a rip off. I like to rip them off once in while to screw them over like they screw everyone else over! The best deal is returning the 1MR powder i bought 20 days, replacing it with gatorade powder, and getting back $40 to pay for some of my costco groceries! =)
gnc employee checking in.. Mark up and net profit on gnc items is bananas can't argue that but the gold card isn't completely a rip if you are a smart shopper. Gold card costs 15 bucks a year. Every month gnc does product rotation and once the product is in 6 months of freshness they will mark it down either 30% or 50%. Add 20% more from gc and you can leave with good deals. Unfortunately we do have to act like sharks to satisfy corporate. They have no souls
@climaxinnovative good point. yeah I cannot place all the blame on the employees b/c after all, they are just being puppets to corporate. I just wouldn't feel good working there knowing that I was ripping off innocent customers.
I definitely don't feel good pushing product on people but it's paying my way through college right now. so for the time being, I have to eat upper managements shit. I see gnc losing mass markets share within 5yrs. Especially with the bar code scanners showing competitors pricing. with the apps available.
contrary to common belief ,we hardly get any commission on gnc product. Which is really crappy on our side because we "have "to sell their product to satisfy corporate ratings. Companies like BPI,USP and Muscletech do pay a decent bonus for selling their product but we realistically have to try not to in order to make corporate numbers. So for the unaware... just because we try to get you on gnc it's not for our monetary gain it's for corporate.
The gold card also works online. And since a lot of gnc stores privetly run the ownes tend to jack up prices whenever they like. Online gnc sells everything pretty close to base rate. So with the gold card you actually do get decent savings on there. You still may be better off buying from a body building site or amazon though.
@ck1586 good to know. yeah I mean I guess in hindsight, I can't blame GNC 100% b/c it's near impossible for them to keep track of all their store locations/managers etc. however, there have been numerous complaints online and I have yet to see corporate address this problem.
Good video. It amazes me that that fraud of a company is still in business.
I went in there a few days ago (not by choice, I stupidly didn't realize I was getting really low on creatine, and Vitamin Shoppe was out of the product I was looking for).
I asked the sales rep where the creatine was. He pointed me to the GNC creatine products (way overpriced, surprise surprise). I knew what I was looking for though and eventually found my creatine.
@mgm8822 He then tries to sell me gold card memberships, multi-vitamins, and tells me that the creatine ethyl-esther is better than creatine monohydrate.
I know this claim is total bullshit because I have done my research.
I used to have a gold card, and KNOW for a fact that they jack up the prices during the first week of the month, sometimes by 20 dollars or more to make sure that gold card members don't get the benefits of the card.
Those scumbags should be investigated by the FTC and FDA
@man2joe They won't be for long once word gets out.
Serious athletes and people involved in fitness don't go there anymore- they buy online or from Vitamin Shoppe. Everyone knows the scam they are running. Noobs to the fitness world are the only ones who fall for their scam.
And this isn't their only instance of shoddy business practices: From Wikipedia:
""In 1998, GNC corporate was accused of running other franchisees out of business on purpose so corporate can "retake" the store into their control. An August 22, 2001 article talks about GNC being sued by franchise owners due to GNC opening their corporate stores incredibly close to existing franchise stores stealing their business.[6] In an April 30, 2003 article, it states that the GNC corporate company was sued by numerous franchise owners...
@man2joe [7] The complaint is that the parent company was allowing their corporate owned stores to sell products for less than the franchise stores are allowed to sell them for. The suit also claimed that GNC charged high "reset fees" to franchisees when there is new signage that needs to be changed in the store or an image facelift that must be done by GNC corporate. A similar lawsuit was filed again in an article written on October 20, 2004.[
@MrSamuraiwolzen well whatever the cost of the membership, it's beside the point. you cannot justify jacking up prices to 70 bucks plus during "gold card" week for a simple 5 lb tub of protein powder then tell customers they're getting a "deal". Yes I did buy the gold card but utilized it on items that actually gave me a discount, not on the powder (I didn't purchase it when it was over 45 bucks).
Don't know where you live but most GNC stores will beat any price around your area by a dollar.Like you said it's just best to do your research . I paid $15 for my card and I paid nothing more because I had spent like $80 already.
@hpwalex I have no qualms about companies making money b/c after all, it's a money making industry. however, misdirecting innocent customers with faulty prices is downright evil.
I had this EXACT same experience many years ago when I used to buy a lot of whey protein powder. At first, I was getting the savings and then after awhile, the price for the product increased substantially and I realized that the GNC Marketing people were just gaming me. I also don't like how they upsell me at the cash register. I say, "Hey, just ring me up. This is all I want to buy today, " Now I only buy at GNC if they have something noone else has.
@amiller32711 it's funny you mention them always trying to "upsale" you. I would get one employee asking me about a product I "should" buy, then 2 min later, i'd get another employee asking the same question on the same product!
Hadn't experienced this personally, but can't say I'm surprised. Do a Google search for "that daily deal you bought". Recent blog post that blew up in the tech world about how daily deals sites like Groupon will often quote inflated prices. E.g. "Pay $45 to receive a $60 massage!" Except the normal price actually is $45 itself. So, not really getting a deal at all. Sounds like GNC is learning a thing or two from them.
Gold cards are $15 not $30 you moron, There are different sales promotions every other month so sales change, Your gonna cry for paying $55 for 74 scoops?
